beard trimming?

Hi,
Can anybody answer the following queries:

a) What is the difference between an electric beard trimmer and an electric razor other than the depth of cut?
b) Is it true that the trimmer operates only on the surface and hence is more kind on the skin?
c) Why dont we need a foam or gel for electric shaving as well?
d) Whats the best trimmer around?

Thank you in advance.

Trimmers are basically small clippers like hair stylists use to do your sideburns and neck. They have very fine teeth and are used mainly to shape a beard style.
Electric razors and used just like razors for shaving to the skin.

The trimmer is nicer to the skin but you'll have a very short layer of scruff, if you want to shave down all the hair you need a razor of some sort.

A lot of the electric razors these days do have lubricant in them, the ones that don't have protective "screens" that keep the blades from actually rubbing on your skin.

As far as the best, Norelco is pretty much at the top:

Do you have to use pre and after shave when just trimming the beard?

I'm young and new to the whole shaving thing. i know when you shave you use pre and after shave but what about when you trim your beard?

I've got a Braun Cruzer 4 which is excellent for styling your beard, i'll be trimming the beard to a very short length (probably just leaving a few mm's hair length on the face). so do i need pre and after shave or something else?

thanks for your time

Pre shave will make your hair stand up stronger to help you shave, but it isn't really necessary.
Avoid after shave as it may smell good but it stings like hell, so isn't worth the bother.
Regards
Andy

You don't need all those chemicals little bro. If you just have to use a chemical and have an electric shaver, pick up some electro shave. It will make your whiskers stand up, but seriously man, you don't need any of those fancy things to trim your beard to a few mm length.

Peace

Any tips for trimming a beard? Same length doesn't work & I'm not great w scissors.?

I have tried both electric trimmers and scissors. The trimmers I have used both preset guards and some free hand, but both have led to moderate results at best. I can trim my mustache with scissors, but I'm not great on my beard esp on the chin and my sides. I have a very full beard, I can trim it much better when it's very short. Thanks much.

maybe go to a barber and have them do exactly what you want and pay attention, then you can redo the same thing at home for the next time.

Is there a real difference between a beard trimmer and a body hair trimmer?

I went to an electric appliances store and asked for a hair trimmer, explicitly mentioning the word "beard", and only after I went home I noticed there was no reference to trimming one's beard... Now I'm going to use it for my body hair anyway, but is there any reason not to use it for my facial hair? Also, will the hair feel really unnatural after trimming them, and for how long?

Is there any reason to use or, conversely, not to use aftershave after trimming (not shaving) your beard?

I got a hair trimmer, because I've become tired of shaving, plus I don't really like being fully shaved. Yet my girlfriend really loves the scent of my aftershave... Will putting some on after trimming be useful at all or is it wrong for some reason?
I'm using aftershave balm which doesn't contain alcohol, and I've used it for a long time with no problems...

its not a good idea to put aftershave on your face full stop! for one it will more than likely leave ur face beetroot red aftershave is meant to be put on the neck not the face!

Trimming a beard line on the neck, difficulty with straight/even lines?

I just grew my facial hair out again, and its time to finally clean it up and get it in order, as i look a little scruffy right now. I keep mine really short, so thats not the hard part, the problem is the line of the bottom of the beard. Using my electric beard/mustache trimmer i usually try and make the line run from an inch or so below my ear down to the chin, but i find it incredibly hard to trim a straight line. And even if i feel like i get one side right, the other side never matches up well, so i spend all this time going back and forth trying to get them perfect. Is there some easier method or trick to doing this i might be overlooking? im just getting sick of spending 2 hours in the bathroom to get it looking what i feel is right. thanks

Go get a pencil eyeliner and trace the shape you want, follow it with the trimmers and then just wipe it off or shower.

It works with my husbands sideburns...should work with a beard too!

take a piece of paper and fold it in half. Cut a semicircle to fit the area you want to trim. Hold it under your chin and use it as your guide. It should be even. Use a small trimmer that can be found at any Sally's Beauty Supply store.

Can salons usually do a good beard trim?

I am curious because I know that not all stylists do good work, but just wondering if salons are usually good overall at beard trims. No barbershops anymore for that.

Yes absolutely, most salons if not all do DO beard trims. You can get a good quality trim or clean up for about $5, depending on where you live.

uhhh no...i went 2 three of the most expensive & best salons in NJ and none of em could even do a perfect job cutting my hair!

Barbers are usually better at that.

How much to tip barber for a fade and beard trim?

I was wonderin how much to tip my barber tomorrow afternoon for a good fade cut and then get my beard trimmed up.

20% of the cost.

Can I change the batteries of a Norelco rechargable beard trimmer?

My Norelco beard trimmer, model T6000, no longer works. The battery looks like AA but its covered in red rubber, and looks soldered onto the unit with flimsy metal ends. Should I just throw this thing out, or can it be fixed?

You should be able to change them. Find Norelco's number and contact them if you have problems.

Blown beard trimmer/adapter charger using the wrong voltage plug in a foreign country. Is the trimmer blown?

I used my beard trimmer charger/plug from Canada in China and we are on different voltage settings. We're 110 and their 220. Now my trimmer won't hold a charge. Is the charger/plug blown, the trimmer or both?

Check the charger, it should say on it what voltages it is designed to accept, either 110-120 volts, 200-230 volts, or both.

If it is designed for both, then we can assume it is probably still working, and the trimmer is dead. If it is 110-120 only then it is most likely toast.

Only way to know for sure it to try a new power adapter. Generic ones can be found at an electronics store, and always come in handy.
