Extraordinary way to pamper your body Sun.Star

Sunday, October 9, 2011

EVERYONE troops to salon these days -- male, female and even kids.

Taking care of one's skin, hair and nails is no longer considered as decadent but as part of everyday, in this case periodic, hygiene.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

Waxing and nail treatment are two basic ways of maintaining hygiene and pampering oneself.

Body waxing is a method of semi-permanent hair removal that removes the hair from the root. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet. There are many types of waxing suitable for removing unwanted hair.

The benefits of waxing versus other forms of hair removal are numerous. For one, it is a very effective way of removing large amounts of hair at one time and it is a long-lasting method. Hair in waxed areas will not grow back for two to eight weeks.

Meanwhile, nails endure daily beatings of hard work but easily become a neglected part of the body. Nails should be moisturized just like the skin. It requires extra attention and care.

Bikini Waxing Nostalgic with Shannon Hatch

Confident that it can't possibly hurt that much, Shannon Hatch documents her first bikini wax. It's of the Brazilian variety, because ...

Bikini Waxing?

I got one of those at home bikini waxing kits.
And i tottaly messed up and basically,i need a profesional to fix it.
how much is bikini waxing usually range around in a salon ?

On average I pay about 20 or 25 for bikini wax, and anywhere from 40 to 50 for a brazillian wax. Every salon differs. My tanning salon, I bought a yearly pass, and they give me free waxes, or deals on waxes, so maybe look into a membership thing at a salon.
Many salons will also have monthly deals, like purchase this and get 50% off of a bikini wax or something of that sort.

This will depend on where you live. Call several shops to get prices.

At the salon I go to, bikini waxing is $25, brazilian is $50. Alot of salons have specials monthly, like deals on waxing, so you might want to check around different salons. Definately get waxed by a professional from now on....its too hard to do it on yourself.

It depends on the salon, it can cost anywhere from $15 for a basic bikini to over $80 for a brazilian. Also, if there is an esthetics school near you, you can get one for really cheap if you have a little bit more time to spend there.

It depends. I think I paid about 60 for mine!

How is a "bikini waxing" or "brazilian waxing" being done?

So far I always shave myself, but I think I want to get either a bikini waxing or a real brazilian waxing, but I am not sure what to expect.
Can somebody please explain what will be done? Will I be naked "down there" while somebody applies the wax and stuff? Isn't it embarrasing? Please give me your advice and tips and hints. Thanks!!!!
When I say "naked down there" I mean will it be like laying on the table at the OB/GYN with my legs spread apart and they see everything or do you wear a thong and they shave around that and they do not see your whole thing???

A bikini wax you still wear underwear and for a Brazilian you don't. Either way you are going to have to sit in positions like you are at the gynocolegist, but with a Brazilian you have to let go of embarassment. They've seen it all before. Don't do either the day before or on your period, the pain is more intense. And don't forget to take 400 milligrams of ibuprofen before going in. The results are worth the pain, but the first time is the worst, after that it starts getting easier. Good luck!

Best to be naked. Quick and painful to. Brazillian they go for all the hairs. You pose in different positions and hold it while they apply the wax and zip it off.

You can ask for some hairs to be left behind, I heard of landing strip design, others just to keep boyfriend, husband interested.

Think about this,it is not rocket science. You will have no cloths on where they put the wax.No you are not spread out but it hurts like H---.

Mine didn't hurt that bad and I am a guy

What is an alternative to bikini waxing? Something that works better than shaving?

I am way to chicken to get a bikini waxing, but when I shave I always get red bumps and super itchy, is there anything you do that isnt shaving or waxing that actually works? Or is there something you do before or after shaving that helps with the red bumps?

I have same problem, i started using nair for bikini area, and for sensitive skin and i leave it on a few minutes longer then it says and i have no problem. They do sell cream to help with bumps it's near the nair products. Hope this helps...

There's this stuff called "Bikini zone" that's supposed to help with the bumps when you shave, but I've never actually tried it.

What I have tried is using hair conditioner as my shaving cream...I don't know, but it seems like it helps with the bumps! Having a really sharp razor blade seems to help too. That'll have to be good enough for me, 'cause I'm also way too chicken to wax! Ouch!

Try putting a thick coat of conditioner " down there " before shaving, it conditions the skin. You can also get " After shaving" lotion and it smooths out the bumps.

& you can try Nair, or any other hair removal stuff, but it may not be as effective.

There's this cream called Bikini Zone that's supposed to help with the bumpies. i've never used it,. but I've only heard good things about it, and I don't believe it's terribly expensive either, so its worth a shot. You can find it at Walmart or drugstores.

(And waxing really is not as bad as you;re expecting it to be. I asure you.)

i totally have tha same problem
ive heard about using that nair stuff for sensitive skin
but ibve never heard of bikini zone.
hmm

What is the best at-home bikini waxing kit?

I'm going on a school trip for about a week to a couple of water parks next month. I'm planning on purchasing an at-home waxing kit for my bikini line just so I don't have to worry about it much when I'm at the trip. I'll probably be purchasing this at target or walmart, or somewhere of that nature.

Any recommendations of what I should buy (a certain brand/kind) would be very appreciated :D

Surgi-Wax Brazilian Wax: about 4 bucks at wal-mart. It's a heated wax that doesn't require any strips. The honey or sugar waxes or anything that doesn't harden when cooled just don't seem to work.

What can I expect from a bikini waxing?

I made an appointment tomorrow for a bikini wax. I have never had one before and I am very hairy. What can I expect to happen? And what sort of waxing should I have?

well, u should expect PAIN..
inflammation
redness
slight swelling and hotness..
and a little bit of bleeding (since it's ur first time) it's really nothing. just a few drops.
but i assure you it is completely worth it..
the pain gets better with time. the more u do it, the less painfull it becomes!
i have never shaved down there. i always always wax.. and my skin condition is perfect, i have been told that i have amazing skin cuz i don't let the razor near there.. or anywhere near my body anyway.
so GO FOR IT!! and stick to it! you are a strong girl! think of all the great sex and sensations u r going to have!! (it's true, sex is much more enjoyable without the hair)!

Pain, lots of pain....

Don't go for a brazilian straight away, see how you go with just a normal bikini wax.
Best to do it in the afternoon when your pain threshold is higher.
Try to relax and remember to breathe, if you hold your breath it hurts more.
It's worth it though, usually at least 3 weeks hair-free.

you are braver than me...I have always wanted to but never knew anyone who did it that i could talk to ..you go girl!!

Well, first of all, your hair should only be about 1/4 inch long when you get a bikini wax. If it's longer, it makes it more difficult for the person waxing you...which can result in more pain. Also, the first two comments are totally over-exaggerating on the pain. I have thick hair too and it's fairly course, but my first bikini wax was not that bad. Yeah, it hurts, but it doesn't last long at all. I've had several brazilians and after a while you get used to it. It's definitely worth it, especially if you hate getting bumps from shaving.

You will be fine. Just decide how much hair you want removed and they will oblige.

Compare bikini waxing to lip waxing in terms of pain?

I'm really tired of shaving but I'm not sure I want to endure the pain of bikini waxing. How much worse is it than having your lip or eyebrow waxed?

OH MY GOD it is A LOT worse. But it's over quickly.

Worse, but you can take an Advil or something 30 minutes before you go in. Also, many salons have music playing to distract you but I would recommend bringing your iPod so you can listen to whatever you like. This is what I always do at the dentist, so I know music can help "drown" out pain!

i would have to say the bikini waxxing hurts
much much worse. but it is over quicker, but
there is alot of akwardness in getting it waxed,
i just shave and i think you should maybe wax
one month, shave the other just switch off. it hurts
more then eyebrow waxing but it takes less time. but
still go with my idea thats what i do.

What's the best home waxing kit (for bikini)?

I'm tired of shaving and I want to get waxed, but its pretty expensive to go out and get it done. So I was thinking about picking up a bikini waxing kit to use on myself, but I have no idea which ones work the best!

Any suggestions?

Sally Hansen seems to be good. I've been looking into a product for the underarm, chin and bikini area that wouldn't irritate me. I stayed in the drugstore reading many of the products by Sally Hansen they have a lotion creme that you can use after the wax or shave products they carry. The lotion is suppose to prevent bumps, itching and irritation. The instructions on the waxing products are a little confusing because I'm not sure what direction to pull the wax strip so the hair is removed properly. Good Luck

Get a monkey and it will do all the work for you. But don't forget to give them a banana after.

hey i just saw this article in the new magazine with mariah carey face on it but forget the magazine name sorry. they were talking about how to wax at home step by step. good luck : )

the only at home kit that has ever worked for me is Nad's. they say not to heat it up but if you heat it up just a little bit it works better. you can also go to one of those professional beauty stores and purchase your own pot to do your own waxing. that is going to work better than anything else really.

i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. it wont work as well ( i have unsuccessfully tried it myself) and i hear it hurts SO bad. Plus, there are a bunch of hard to reach areas down there it is expensive but i think its worth it..

DON'T DO IT!!!!

Can one contract infections after bikini waxing? is there any scientific evidence?

i was wondering if you know of anyone or yourself who has contracted infections after bikini waxing. i'm planning to do a research study.....any help would be appreciated.

Yes, theoretically it is possible. Every hair you pull out leaves an open pore in the skin where bacteria can easily enter and cause an infection

How long do the red spots/rashes last on your bikini line after waxing?

I am getting a bikini wax for a spring break trip. I am leaving sunday for the trip, so I have 5 days basically for the red spots to heal/go away after a bikini wax. Will they be gone in time? Know any ways to speed up the healing? Thanks!

5 days should be enough time to recover....if you have never had a bikini wax you may have some bruising though ( and that takes longer than a week to go away ) You could try an oil called Azuleen.....It actually comes with alot of home waxing kits....to speed healing and prevent/ minimize redness.

What's a better alternative to bikini waxing?

I hate bikini waxing cause it never seems to last long enough and gets expensive! I have light hair so laser hair removal is out, and I don't like to shave every day... Any suggestions?

Well it sounds like you think its a pain in the ass no matter how u have it removed!! Have never done it and will never do it. Its like once you start u always have to do it!! Therefore I never started and its never gotten outta control. Oops I didn't answer the question I just commented, sorry bout that!! I guess consider this... you have to shave your arm pits every day...We just accept that, so its no biggy!! So just accept that it has to be done or stop doing it if it bothers you so much!! Seriously, once we accept certain things in life then it doesn't bother us as much or at all. I could never accept this job I had once, so I quit!!
