Atlanta Botanical Garden offers holiday light show with a difference Access Atlanta
The hot pink, funky fuchsia and electric blue lights illuminating the trees of Storza Woods demand a neck-craning double take.
Clearly, Santa's got a brand new bag.
Opening Nov. 19, "Garden Lights" boasts nearly 1 million energy-efficient LED lights bedecking the 30-acre garden in unusual colors. Surprises greet you as you stroll through this exceptionally artful show, with lights employed differently in different settings.
A galaxy of 72 brilliant red and white stars, dangling from towering trees, greets you as you amble out of the Hardin Visitor Center, the most traditional Christmas display you'll encounter.
If you bear right, you head toward Storza Woods, which looks more like Dr. Seuss' Woods as you drink it in from the treetop height of the Kendeda Canopy Walk. Or bear left at the stars, and an array of crape myrtle trees awaits, wrapped in contrasting twists of tropical blues and greens.
Yet the unquestioned centerpiece beckons up ahead: the Great Lawn, where some 150 fiberglass orbs in three sizes and 9-foot-tall spheres change hues to the beats of classic holiday songs, including Jimmy Durante crooning "Frosty the Snowman" (icy blues and frosty whites) and Burl Ives covering "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (mainly deep reds).

What is the botanical reason for so many blue flowers at this time of year?
I have grape hyacinth, violet, bluebells, purple do-dahs (3 diffrerent types) anemones and more, all blue or purple. What is the botanical reason?
Maybe the light or heat is not as strong this time of the year making it easier for them to survive.
Where can I find botanical sketches of Australian Native plants?
Where can I find detailed botanical drawings of Native Australian species from groups like Eucalyptus, Grevillea, Proteacea, Acacia (wattles) etc? Colour is preferable but not essential. Sketches like those done by Joseph Banks would be perfect. I'm finding it very hard to find such illustrations in libraries here.
I love Australian natives and would love to incorporate some great drawings into some Bicycle decals I'm designing.

how does one start a botanical garden?
We have no money, no land, just the need for a botanical garden in our city ,Guadalajara, mex.
You need to get people together and organize to have one created. . . There will probably be someone that will donate land also :) Good place to start is by talking to local nurseries and gardeners/farmers in your area. . . It really could be a beautiful community project :) Good Luck to you. . . I've been thinking we need to do something like this here for quite awhile, and I think I will take my own advice at this time :)
Where can I get information on the legality or certain plants for botanical purposes?
In Ireland, if possible. But information on other countries would be quite helpful too.
I'm only asking in Botany because I would assume maybe one or two people may cultivate it for botanical reasons. Maybe not, haha.
For the peyote cactus in particular. I read somewhere that it's legal in some countries for botanical purposes, but I'm struggling to find any information.
Any help would be much appreciated.
The Netherlands, lol!
[ hmm, I can't figure if the joke above sounds funny or derogative... oh well... ]
I can't help you much there, but my favorite female singer ever, Judee Sill wrote some of her masterpieces on peyote, just thought you'd like to know..or not :)
i want to get complete information about botanical garden?
please help me if you know a website that can give me information about botanical garden as it is very necessary for me.
You didn't say which one. Here are some sites. Try searching "botanical garden (location)" http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=botanical+garden&fr=ush-ans
What medium is used with botanical drawings?
I really love botanical drawings. I've drawn two of them so far, with coloured pencil. But aside from that, what is used on them. Oil paints? Watercolour? Coloured ink? And what type of paper? How big is the paper usually, with botanical drawings?
Thank you very much :)
If you are doing drawings for a publisher, the publisher should specify which medium they want you to use. If you are doing work for a gallery or just for your own pleasure, try them all. I have done a variety of botanicals for a long time, so my choice varies according to the result I want. Make me one of your contacts and email me what you choose, I'd love to know.
Where can I find a specialized company or individual who can build and maintain a botanical garden?
Our neghbourhood is wanting to construct and botanical garden for the area. The concept is to have an enclosed environment with all kinds of tropical plants, reptiles and butterflys. This would be for commercial purposes but we need a specialized company to construct and maintain it.
Your comments please and suggestions are welcome.
I think any local landscaping company could help you. Everyone should get together to design it but then have the landscaper build and maintain it! Or just hire someone to maintaine it....nature will maintain most of it!
I think this is a really neat project...have fun!
Who is the Billionaire who has the world most exclusive arboretum and botanical garden in New York state?
This individual is a great philanthropist, who is a publisher and genius. He owns property in Aspen Colorado, Florida and New York State. Each with its own arboretum and botanical garden.
Ziff...I've done some work on his Aspen property (very impressive).
Are there any botanical gardens/conservatories in Mississippi, especially in Jackson ?
I want to know if there are conservatories/botanical gardens in Mississippi that display plants from around the world. It seems that many of the gardens in Mississippi have local plants, not exotic plants as in many of the areas in the US.
Mynell Gardens in Jackson is very beautiful. It is the only one that I know of in the state. Biloxi is actually trying to create a botanical garden.
