The business of beauty VEGAS INC

At first blush, Kat Toussaint is, above all else, a hair stylist, among the legion of workers — most of them women — toiling in the business of beauty in Las Vegas. She is one of about 275 hair stylists, nail technicians, beauticians, facial experts and others who rent space at Body Spa West, a 20,000-square-foot beauty emporium on West Charleston Boulevard. The owner says it’s the largest salon on the West Coast.

Toussaint, a Las Vegas native, pays $250 a week to work in a room of eight hair experts. Her station is next to the front window, for which she’s paying a $10 premium.

She’s certainly good at what she does, and wholly enjoys it. She began styling hair in college when she majored in photography and helped prepare her subjects’ hair for shoots. When she took a job running the ticketing and entertainment departments at Monte Carlo and Luxor, she found herself missing her chair. So 10 years ago, she returned to hair styling.

But her real skill may have nothing to do with her scissors and blow dryer. Listen to her talk about the beauty business, and you wonder why she isn’t leading a 300-level practicum in how to survive the recession in a business that relies on discretionary spending.

All day beauty spa in Nurnberg or Kaiserslautern Germany?

Im thinking of a birthday gift for a special lady and I figure an all day spa would be nice please help sombody
Im sorry ....let me rephrase the question...What spa's are available there...Do you know any names>

Dude, Nurenberg, without any doubts, it's bigger and a lot more history than Keiserslautern. I'd tottaly pick Nurenberg

The only reference I can find to an actual Spa is something about the "wellness centre" in the downtown area. The info is below:
Schulte's Hotel du Vin - Hotel & Boarding House Kaiserslautern:
Malzstrasse 7
Five walking minutes from the hotel is the Wellness Centre Kaiserslautern which offers wellness at its best on 5 floors. Additionally, the hotel provides a conference room of 40 m² with daylight.

I wish I could find more, but am limited by location! (as in I am in NC, and you are asking about Germany!!!!) Good luck!

Does anyone know of any day spa's or nice beauty salon's in the merseyside area?

I preferably need to see some that have websites but if anyone has any good recommendations then I'd really appreciate it!!! I can't find any!

I did a Google search: merseyside spa

Here are websites I found:

Breakfast! You need a spa breakfast. Have lots of fresh fruit, cut them and wash them the night before. You can make a smoothie, eat your fruit with toast or have yogurt.

While you eat, draw a bath. You need some bubbly soaps (maybe go to lush and get a bath bomb). A mint soap would be ideal. Set up some candles and just relax. Spend half an hour or more reading, meditating or relaxing.

After you're nice and clean dry off and use your favorite body lotion so you smell nice and feel soft. You can start by giving yourself a pedicure! If you have a good minty lotion, you could give yourself a foot massage. You could also use olive oil to give yourself a foot massage (just put on some fluffy socks because your feet might be slippery immediately after). A good massage idea is to put a golf ball or tennis ball on the floor and roll it under your feet. Now that your feet feel refreshed, you can do up the toenail polish.

For your hands, you can dip them in a dish of warm water to make them softer (put a drop of lemon juice in the water). Then do your fingernails and paint them.

Doing your feet and hands can be exhausting, so you probably want a siesta. Light some candles and read some more. If you have soothing music, put on that (like the sounds of waves crashing...one of those ambient cds). You could make yourself a mojito or hot chocolate. If you like icecream, have some icecream for lunch. If its sunny where you live, sit outside.

To do your face, boil some hot water, add a couple drops of lemon and steam your face. You can soak a face cloth and hold it over your face. This will open up your pores. Then you can do up your eyebrows. Put moisturizer on your face as well.

By now you're probably looking pretty good. So call your best girl and go out for a nice dinner (go to a pub and score some free drinks - great mood booster). Don't be out too late, but afterwards, you and your best friend can come home, watch ridiculously girly movies (breakfast at tiffany's, father of the bride, notebook)

And that would be the perfect day for me.

Make sure your computer and cell phone are off. Do NOT answer your door. Just don't let anyone interrupt you.

(I'm really antsy, so my ideal relaxing day would involve hiking or walking through a park...then a shower).

For a good face exfoliator, you could use olive oil and brown sugar! This is super moisturizing and will smell good!

Set up as much as you can the night before. Put out candles everywhere, tidy the house so you're not focusing on the dust bunnies and piles of junk. Make sure you have matches. Put out all your lotions so you're not looking for things. You can go to the drug store and pick up some cute nail polishes, hair oils/mask, face masks (the single use things are super cheap!)

I find a morning walk to be ideal, so if you want, you can go on a nice walk when you first wake up - then the bath will feel so much better.

what are some really good (and simple) beauty tips and such for a spa day at home?

me and my friends are having our own little spa thinger and we have very little ingredients. we just want some recipies for making masques or tips on making our hair softer. stuff like that. thanks. =)

I dont really have any recipes check out the other posts on here ...but heres some stuff you might want to do.

Number one: No spa day is fun without a mud mask!! There much better then facial masks and keep your face smooth and clean. They only costs 1/2$ depending where you get it from.

Number two: Have a manicure and a padicure you will need some funky colors i usually try something different like blue nail polish and then white at the type. Its a nice icy look i loved it. Also before you paint nails you might want to have a bucket with hot water and soap..relax for ten minutes then apply some foot cream. [[ I got a good one at walt mart thats also where i got the mud mask]]

Number three:Apply body lotion.

Number four: You can have a little picnic for lunch/supper or something if the whether is nice you can do it outside in your yard (Sounds stupid.. but its actually kinda fun lol). Four drinks try Lemonade/Ice Tea or if you can drink then get a cooler.

Number five:Your going to want some music at your spa day so make sure you burn a c-d the night before with music you all like. Dancing is also always fun.

Number six: Shave and pluck eyebrows and take a long bath since you got guests you might want to do this when everyone is gone at night or in the morining. So your guests wont be bored out of there mind.

Number seven: Watch some movies clasic chick flicks maybe mean girls its old but still good lol or something you where dying to watch.

Number eight:Look at some magazines and talk about the latest gossip! (Cosmo Girl, Seventeen)

Number nine: I heard they now got these hair masks never tried them but im sure there good too.

And there you go ... some fun things to do... sorry have no recipes.!

The thing that makes me feel super pampered is a full body scrub. You can do it with an oil and sugar granules

Beauty salon/day spa music reccomendation?

I play alot of Buddha bar and zen connection type music, and need help with some music that is chilled, but with a little beat, and no bird/rainforest sounds or Enya.

any reccomendations would be great!

i would recommend you playing "neo-soul music". it's the latest and hotest music genre of today. this music can be played during a hype situation and a chilled one. most customers will appreciate this sound and will want to come back not only for the good services you provide but the subtle soulful tone/melody you are setting within your environment.

Alphabeat - Facsination, would be great for this sort of thing =],
and maybe Chris Brown - With you ..

I dont know how to single out some songs,
but maybe you can try some compilation cds?
cos it'll save you form buying single tracks or one whole cd.

since its for something like spa, salon,
maybe try and RNB compilation, or love songs, or even classical, non-lyrics songs.

Soft songs are recommended since you only want background music.
yep,
hope this helps!

Help with 9 year old beauty spa birthday party ideas?

Having a birthday party for my nine year old daughter and 11 friends. Does anyone have any inexpensive beauty ideas like face masks? Easy kid friendly finger foods? We want to set up chairs in a circle with relaxing music kinda like a spa day. Any great hints will truly be appreciated. Cute games? Planned on doing fingernails and makeup.

I will give you a few links to face masks that you can make with basic around the home things. You could either make them while the girls are playing a game or let them help you.

Be sure to have cucumber slices for them to put on their eyes, for fun.

Obviously, you won't be able to give actual manis and pedis, but you can of course paint their fingers and toes. Either use the colors you have at home, or let you daughter help pick out some new colors. Maybe you could pick up some nail pens as well, this allows you to make designs on nails with ease. Or nail stickers would work.

After facials, do makeup. Of course, most nine year olds don't wear makeup yet, so do it subtle. This way the parents won't freak, but the girls get to have fun. Have assorted light pinks/tans/browns for eyeshadow, a brown mascara, a light pink blush, and light pink and clear glosses. To prevent infections, buy disposable applicators (Walgreens, Walmart, etc.). Apply it all lightly, especially mascara.

After their nails, makeup, and facials are done, do their hair. Make sure to have clips and pony holders that they can take home, so they don't have to undo their hair. Do things like curls, low ponys, high ponys, side ponys, bang poofs, etc.

For games that they can play, google it. Look for games that can be played while they are getting their spa treatments done (so sitting down) as well as normal party games. SOrry I can not be of more help here.

Little finger sandwiches, pasta salad, pretzels, fruit, cheese/crackers, veggies/dip, and chocolate covered strawberries would all be good foods for them.

Background music could be classical music or your daughter's favorite songs without words. Or with words - who cares?

To create a spa atmosphere, don't go all out with 'birthday' decorations. Have comfy pillows/cushions laying all over the ground near the 'spa'. Maybe have a few glass bowls sitting on side tables. Float flowers and votive candles in them. Very pretty. Of course, don't light the candles. Also have flowers in vases scattered about. Maybe a few balloons and streamers in colors like lilac, baby pink, mint green, etc.

For the invites, cut out lipstick and nailpolish shapes from colored paper. In sequins/fake diamonds, writde - Come to (name)'s SPArty on (date! Don't miss out on a fun spa day, right here at (name)'s house. We will provide the spa treatments, be sure to dress comfy and bring a cute outfit for the special photo shoot!

After they have all their spa treatments, do a photo shoot. Have props for them to use and take pictures with your digital. Print the pictures off you computer on picture paper before the party is over. Have them wear their special outfits for this.

For the pedis, have them soak their feet in a bowl of soapy water before hand.

Have the girls seated in a circle in chairs for the spa.

Have plastic wine glasses or bright plastic cups for them to drink lemonade / flavored water from.

Be sure to have cupcakes for the birthday cake.

Goodie Bags - Buy one or two bags of little Dove chocolates. Split up the bag(s) evenly between all 12 girls. Have one bottle of nail polish for each girl. Buy assorted colors. A little bottle of body spray - fruity- would be nice. Along with a bottle of fruity lotion. Finish the bag off with a nice little (cheap) piece of jewelry and/or sunglasses. You can buy the glasses at Gymboree for only $4 or so. You could also do cheap little plastic watches/ hair accessories.

girls is a good gift for a woman a day at the spa and beauty salon?

Depends why you're trying to get rid of her? :P

Going to a day spa alone and i have some questions?

hello! as a birthday present my mother got me a gift certifcate for a spa "beauty day" which includes a facial, massage, and manicure. i was just wondering if it's common to go on a spa day by yourself, or do people normally go with a friend? i would really hate to ask a friend to spend $175 to go with me.

also is there anything i should know about going (like about shaving beforehand or wearing perfume) sorry if this is a weird question!

and when do you tip? do you pay at the end so you tip at the end or do you tip everyone who was working on you? lol i've had my hair/nails done before but never at a spa.

thank you so much!

Most people do go w/ others but it's not really necessary or even convenient to have someone w/ you. You could maybe spend time together while getting the mani but facials and massages are generally done in separate (non-common) areas and your only w/ the technician/masseuse during the appointments. They generally are the longest (time wise) appointments and require a degree of relaxation to have a beneficial effect and communication w/ the technician to adjust the treatment to you personally. As far as shaving or wearing perfume do what's best and most comfortable for you. The point here is to relax and enjoy yourself, if your the type of person who can't let someone see you unshaven, then shave. I'd consider whether or not you have a gender preference for the massage since you are mostly unclothed and make a request when setting your appointment. Tipping you generally do at the end, for salon services 20% is customary. Volcom girl said something to the effect that tips are included in prices, this is completely incorrect ! Salon staff relies (much like waitstaff) almost entirely on tips alone (they make usually below minimum wage), 20% is considered by those in the field to be the commonly fair tipping rate for services. Some people like to hand the tip personally, probably to make sure they know they got a tip from them and how much it was (in some cases). I personally just add a tip on when I'm paying the final bill, I'll add an appropriate amount for each persons particular services and specify how much each person gets. The receptionist will take care of making sure the right people get their money. Most spas will provide small envelopes at the reception/cashier area for you to leave tips w/ staff members names as well. Enjoy yourself.
