Planning holiday spending Stockton Record

Let me start with an apology. I know it's only October, and I'm as disturbed as you to see Santa Claus next to the Halloween candy on store shelves. But the holiday season is just two months away. I'm sorry to bring it up, but it's time to figure out your holiday gift-giving and merriment budget.

Consider the following strategies for spreading holiday cheer without accumulating debt:

With two months to go, examine your budget for a place or two to trim. Cancel that gym membership you never use, or go on a restaurant-free diet for a month. Come up with a (legal) moneymaking scheme or two. Maybe your junk is on someone else's holiday wish list. Consider Craigslist, or use Facebook to tell your friends about items for sale. Sell your baby-sitting or tech support services.

Determine how much money you can afford to save between now and December and track your progress online with a tool like Mint.com, which has a holiday spending goal feature.

I used spafinder.com when I sent my sister and cousin out for a vacation.. They loved the way things were done.

I got a pricey spa day gift certificate. The gratuity would have been $70. When the clerk took my certificate?

...and said "okay, that will be all unless you would like to leave a gratuity." I said something about leaving my cash in the car and left. Am I going to hell?

No If the spa day was that expensive then they are already making a chun of cash and wouldnt worry about, especially if you cant afford it

To hell with him! sorry but what is the point in a service costing something and then having an 'obligatory tip', If its so taboo to not leave a gratuity then it should have been inclusive within the cost of the product or service! in your case specifically, being that it was a gift, you certainly shouldn't be expected to pay anything towards it and unless (to avoid paying the gratuity) you murdered the clerk I doubt you will be going to 'hell'. Hope this has been of help ;)

It was EXTREMELY rude of them to even suggest a tip. I would not have left a tip either if they said that. I worked in food service for 20 years and when I waited tables I NEVER even hinted to a customer about leaving a tip. RUDE, RUDE RUDE.

while spas may be affiliated with satan and his worshippers and lying is a sin and gratuities while deemed ettiquete in some places and not in others is no reason for going to hell, not tipping me for this answer may send you there. call for a drop off point. large bills in larger suitcases please. thank you for worrying about your etermal damnation

No. It was not done on purpose. Don't worry about it. My sister is a massage therapist and she never expects a tip. When she does get one she is really excited but she just doen't hold her breath. People at a salon make good money.

No. cracking up laughing.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck's husband Tim should have given her a spa gift certificate for Mother's Day. Who agrees?

She could have used it to touch up those dreadful roots.

Now Carri that isn't very nice, maybe he can't afford it on a bench warmers salary. LOL

i agree, but that wouldn't help her attitude......

he needs to make her a stay-at-home mom so we won't have to see her dreadful face.

Most definitely. I honestly wonder about the hair stylists at The View and how they let her go on like that.

He should have given her a muzzle and an attitude adjustment.

Elizabeth didn't need a spa treatment for Mother's Day, but instead, he should have gotten her a muzzle, so we wouldn't have to hear her talk

Heh heh! That is funny but I think he should just give her a brown paper bag to put over her head.

She needs to place a bag over her head, hopefully plastic. She is so ignorant and annoying it is a distraction from the rest of the panelists.

As far as Elizabeth is concerned, take her or leave her, either way. But Joy is the one who needs a muzzle. She is rude and if people don't agree with her views, she has a snit fit! She's one sick icky female, and I use female for lack of a better word. I certainly don't want to call her a lady! That she isn't!!!!!!

Maybe she's decided to go natural????

I agree with the one who said Joy needs a muzzle. That woman should be de-ported.

I like Elisabeth and hate hate hate Joy. I'd like to put a muzzle on her. What a witch!
At least Elisabeth has family values and is a beautiful girl.

I'm looking for a good day spa in Riverside, CA to buy a gift certificate from. Any suggestions?

This will be a gift for my mom, so I need a good spa!

Hey! thats my hood. Ok, Kelly's Spa at the Mission Inn is super nice, a bit pricy though. But if you are wanting a really pampered experience that would be it and it is in the Mission Inn which is always neat to go to.. A more cheaper way to go, but also nice is Serenity Day Spa, i have had a couple massages there and my sis goes all the time. They are right off the 91 around the Arlington offramp, Madison offramp area. Also, if she was willing to go outside of riverside, but not far, a day pass to Glen Ivy Hot Springs is the ultimate gift. It is in Corona i believe, off the 15, i think. It is really fun there, you can go on its web site or call 1 800 club mud. Good luck and if i think of any more i will come back to this.

Look it up on the net, Riverside day spas.

Day spa tip etiquette?

I was given a day spa gift certificate from work. It's a massage, facial, manicure & pedicure. I'm going to be going next weekend. I have a question about tipping. Since I didn't pay for and will not be paying at the end, when and how much do I tip?
Thanks for your help.

check the value of the gift certificate if possible and then tip 15% at the end of visit. if and only if the service pleases you

Find out the cost of the services and tip 20% of that.

Please don't be cheap and think because you aren't paying for the services, you don't need to tip.

That would be low class.

My husband got me a great gift certificate for Valentines Day at the spa. It's for a massage, pedicure, facial

,and haircut. Three different people will be working on me. I need help on how much I should tip each one.

You can tip each one according to how much you like their service.I would be happy with a tip of 20% of service cost.
So,haircut is $35.00,you would tip $7.00...You see.
Pedicure is $35.00,you would tip another,$7.00.
Same with Massage 20% of cost of massage.
Have fun,sounds really nice .

Call the salon, ask how much each service would cost (as if you were paying for it instead of using a gift certificate) and tip 25% of the cost of the service.

20%( +/-) for each different employee.

i dont think you should tip them. Your husband bought you the certificate there for you shouldnt have to pay any thing else..... Thats why its a gift certificate.. :)

Firstly, in my opinion, You should tip -only- if you like the job they've done. Secondly, when I have spa days, I tip between 3-7 dollars a person. If you absolutely adore the way you look, I would go as much as 10 dollars a person.

Only tip if there is a happy ending involved, and then probably 20% would be appropriate.

The massage person will work on you the longest. $10
Give the others between $3-5.

you can tip 10% of total cost of sevices
one who does massage should be tipped more

What is the best day spa in the Bloomfield Hills, MI area?

A friend has done my family a tremendous favor and I would like to thank her with a gift certificate to a day spa. She lives in the Bloomfield Hills/Birmingham area north of Detroit and I am not familiar with the area. Cost is not a major concern. Suggestions would be appreciated.

The best spa in the area I think is Nordstrom's Spa at Somerset Mall (in Troy) it's about 5 min. away. If she's in the BH area she more than likely shops at Somerset anyway since that's the closest mall.

Other than that, there is the Truth spa in West Bloomfield on Orchard Lake Rd. (It's like 10 min away). That one is nice as well, but not as nice as the Nordstrom Spa.

Hope it helps.

At a day spa - How much do you tip?

I have a gift certificate to a day spa and am going to get my first classic facial. How much do you tip people that work there? Is it 20%, the same as at a restaurant? I know they do manicures and pedicures and massages too. Also, Do you tip the same for everyone? Thanks for all your kind answers.

Depends on if you get a "happy ending" or not.

Valentines Day gift for my lady?

I want to get her one of those all day spa pass or gift certificates for spa. She's always talking about needing a vacation. I thought to myself... I can't give her an actual vacation right now, but might as well give a mini vacation...
Is that a bad idea???

That would be a great idea I would also check out an easy site to find a thoughtful yet inexpensive gift to have delivered http://www.Online-Florists.Reviews-n-Ratings.com There are special online coupons for flower delivery and fancy chocolates too.
