Sponsored by Anna Jaques Hospital and Interlocks Salon & Day Spa, the fun run is an effort to raise awareness for women's heart health. Last year's debut dash drew about 35 people, and organizers expect that number will double when the event steps off on Saturday at the Bartlet Mall.

For those who are unfamiliar with the term, a High Heel Dash is just that — when men, women and teens complete a 50-yard dash wearing high heels. The concept first became popular three years ago after the television talk show "Live With Regis and Kelly" first began holding a High Heel-a-thon to raise money for charity.

Anna Jaques sees the free program as a way to draw attention to an important message.

"It's just so wacky people will pay attention to it, but the message is to get moving for a healthy heart," said Jennifer Karin, the community outreach coordinator for Anna Jaques Hospital. "Our hearts are all made the same way, and the same factors go into a heart-healthy lifestyle."

Best presentation for a spa day gift?

I'm planning to give my mother a "mother/daughter day" as a gift (lunch, massages, etc). What's the best way to present it to her?

wrap it in a big box with a brick in it.

I'd put it in one of those cute little gift bags with some sachet scent packs and some gift wrap string/pieces etc... and a nice ribbon tying the handles...... little scented sachet packs will add weight and a nice scent...

I would create a gift basket around it. Go to IKEA get a cheap basket, scented candles, bathrobe, relaxing CD whatever really, that way she has something to open up other then an envelope. I would find a good-sized box (bigger than a shoe box), so that it looks like a "present" rather than a voucher. Wrap it, put a bow on it and even let her shake it. It will keep her guessing until she opens it.

I would go to the dollar store and get a gift basket fill it with bubble bath or bath beads maybe some lotions a shower puff ya know cute little stuff she can use after you have your day at the spa to remind her of the gift/special day you to shared. Maybe even include a small picture frame that you could get someone at the spa to take a picture of you two there indulging in the high life that she could later reflect on. Have a great time I'm so jealous!!!

The responses here are good but the first thing that popped into my mind was an old lunch box from around her time with something familiar to her from the old days; inside there, your spa gift ; a small inspirational book; a small picture frame with a picture of just you and your Mom in it. A note card from you saying how much you love her and can't wait to spend a day of relaxation with her. Put the lunch pail in a box and wrap with a big bow - really you are already thoughtful and a great daughter so being a Mom , there is no wrong way; sounds like she already has the greatest gift a Mom could or would ever want, a thoughtful daughter. To hell with him! sorry but what is the point in a service costing something and then having an 'obligatory tip', If its so taboo to not leave a gratuity then it should have been inclusive within the cost of the product or service! in your case specifically, being that it was a gift, you certainly shouldn't be expected to pay anything towards it and unless (to avoid paying the gratuity) you murdered the clerk I doubt you will be going to 'hell'. It was EXTREMELY rude of them to even suggest a tip. I would not have left a tip either if they said that. I worked in food service for 20 years and when I waited tables I NEVER even hinted to a customer about leaving a tip. RUDE, RUDE RUDE.

No. It was not done on purpose. Don't worry about it. My sister is a massage therapist and she never expects a tip. When she does get one she is really excited but she just doen't hold her breath. People at a salon make good money.

Hey! thats my hood. Ok, Kelly's Spa at the Mission Inn is super nice, a bit pricy though. But if you are wanting a really pampered experience that would be it and it is in the Mission Inn which is always neat to go to.. A more cheaper way to go, but also nice is Serenity Day Spa, i have had a couple massages there and my sis goes all the time. They are right off the 91 around the Arlington offramp, Madison offramp area. Also, if she was willing to go outside of riverside, but not far, a day pass to Glen Ivy Hot Springs is the ultimate gift. It is in Corona i believe, off the 15, i think. It is really fun there, you can go on its web site or call 1 800 club mud. Good luck and if i think of any more i will come back to this.
