Organic pretenders: hair care products that are not from Mother Nature People with Voices

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) – these are used as detergents and surfactants – they can enter the bloodstream and cause potentially carcinogenic formations of nitrates and dioxins to form in shampoos and cleansers by reacting with other product ingredients. They also sdtrip the hair of moisture.

Cocamide DEA – Diethanolamine, more commonly called DEA, is a suspected carcinogen and has been shown to have a negative effect on the development of memory cells. It is a particularly dangerous ingredient for pregnant women to use.

Methylisothiazolinone - This has been shown to cause neurological damage, potentially putting a fetus at risk for brain damage. The chemical might also be a factor in the development of Alzheimer’s and other nervous system disorders.

What are the essential ethnic hair care products?

Ethnic hair care products are a highly requested item for shelter and needy family donations. I checked out the store, but there was an entire aisle labeled "ethnic hair care"! So what are the essentials?

Standard hair oil (grease, hair food) , Oil Sheen spray, non-tangle hair ties, Relaxer treatments, Petroleum jelly to go along with the relaxer treatments, Detangler sprays, leave-in conditioner for dry hair, made-for-African-American-hair shampoo and conditioner (the ones made by Pantene are great, they come in a bronze colored bottle), and really anything for very dry, brittle, chemically treated hair. Also, "rat-tail" combs, regular combs, and soft bristle brushes. Hope this helps!

Does anyone know of a hair salon in the Austin area that specializes in ethnic hair care?

I am looking for a hairdresser that can work with African-American hair.

Kaylene Childers she relaxed my hair, real nice. 512-452-1874

Try calling or looking up Salon E over on Anderson Lane.

Ethnic hair care (What can I do to improve my hair condition?)?

There is the one spot in the top of my head that is extremely dry. I have tried numerous products and nothing has helped. It is a totally different texture from the rest of my hair.

Try putting a little oil every day on top of your hair. then wash the bottom like normal

Try asking a doctor :]

Why can't white people use ethnic hair care products?

Or, why shouldn't they? I don't understand how it could be that different, but people keep telling me it is.

Actually I do.. I am Italian and a lot of other things.. but my hair is kind of wiry so sometimes I use the Pantene shampoo for colored women and it makes my hair feel more moisturized. I also like to use the oil in my hair.

Hope I helped:)

they cant because it is different hair textures. well, im sure u can try them if u wanted to but i dont think ur gunna get any results different than if u were to use the products u normally use

Duh, look at African hair and then look at yours. It's completely different.

I think it's because people have different hair thicknesses and textures. Of course, there's nothing saying that you can't; people should use what works for them!

Some do. but we have very dry hair, and always need moisture.. white people hair tends to be oily and need to use products that don't have much moisture in it and will weigh their hair down alot

Could my long, dry, curly hair benefit from "ethnic" hair care products?

I'm white, but sometimes I wonder if I'd do better with products made for African Americans. I've always had a problem with dry, thick, curly hair that frizzes at the slightest hint of humidity. I'm 40-something and also use a permanent hair color in my natural ash brown color every 4 wks to hide stubborn (and increasing!) grey hairs. As I get older, the hairs that come in grey are even more dry! Suggestions?
P.S. My hair has always been dry and frizzy, even way before I started coloring.

many things can dry your hair and make it frizz, like brushing your hair. I have curly hair and I only brush it about once a week, I use a comb or my fingers if I need to. And shampoos dry your hair out, especially really curly hair. It takes longer for the natural oils to reach the end of the hair and shampoo just washes it off. It would probably be a good idea to shampoo less often and simply use a conditioner on the ends of your hair, like the bottom half of your hair.

I would try using less shampoo before buying other products. But I think trying the products for african american hair styles would be good for your hair.

You could try hair mayo. Its great for dry hair.

use a standard hot oil treat ment and after care products for tinted or permed hair they are at the beuaty supply stores and ask a worker ther about it also if you know a beautician they will say the same thing

I'm no hair expert, but it seems like African American hair is generally pretty oily, even though it's brittle and thick. I imagine it would make your hair drier if you used it. I suggest using something for colored or heat damaged hair. Hope I helped!

African American hair needs alot of oil to protect it from the sun. Therefore any of those products would promote oil production. My friend's wife works in some kind of hair research and she tells me that shampoo strips away the outer membrane of your hair to let the nutrients in and you need to replace it by using conditioner. This is why people used to put egg or mayo in their hair. The protein builds that outer layer and promotes shine and strength.

I hear you seems to me that your hair is try all the time because from coloring day by week. that can dry it out making all your naturl oils in your hair go out of wake. I have curly hair too thats naturl. I think you need some condtion treatments in your hair to but back the oils you lots. You can always talk to the person that cuts your hair. they can give you some good tips from keeping your hair healthy and frizz free.

Good luck

I have naturally curly hair.I am over 40 and I let my hair go gray. A chemical straightener can tame frizz so that your hair is easier to style;I use Olgivie hair straightener, but would suggest that you go to a hair stylist if you can. Products made for Afircan American hair are also good, but stick to the no-lye brands like Gentle Treatment. Use moisturizing Shampoos and conditioners like those containing shea butter by Fredeic Fekkai. I also am going to give you the name of a book:Going Gray Looking Great by Diana Lewis Jewell. It has tips for people who dye their hair, too.I can't dye mine because I am allergic to dyes...but I look great!

I think you could try egg.

I am a hairdresser, and one awesome product is Sleek from Matrix. It is an orange bottle. It is so good you will never use another product again. I use the shampoo, conditioner and the wax polisher. The wax is great to use after you towel dry and style to smooth the frizz. Or use it in wet hair and let air dry. Remember the wax goes a long way. So does the conditioner, you will run out of the shampoo before the conditioner. Trust me you will love it.
Go to any Mastercuts salons and ask for it. They have buy one and get one half off sale going on through the end of May. Hurry!

i suggest VO5 hot oil treatment & other VO5 product it is for used by both races also try john freida frizz ease works great !!!!

Yes. I suggest you try Pantenes Relaxed and Natural Lines or Nuetrogena's Triple Moisture products. Most newer products for AA hair is very well formulated and provides moisture without weighing your hair down. Good luck.

what products are best for ethnic hair ,synthetic or all natural hair care products?

And the names of the products which worked for you .

when my hair was relaxed i used motions, it was great for my hair...with natural hair i use mainly natural products because synthetic products just sit on my hair

I have natural hair and I personally like natural products. I love oils and my hair loves them too. My favs. are castor(thickens hair), jojoba(mimicks hairs natural oil), avocado, coconut(great for shine), sweet almond, rosemary(stimulates hair growth), peppermint(stimulates hair growth) and lavender. The last three i mentioned are called essential oils and should be mixed w/ a carrier oil ( oils that i mentioned before the eo's) if u want to use them. There are so many to choose from. Try some of them out.

Note: u don't have to put all oils named at once in ur hair.

I also love butters like shea, avocado, mango butter for stylin my hair in braids, twist, w/e. Give them a try also. Makes my hair so soft and gives good hold(like gel).

For shampoos I use dr. bronners castile soap. Its all natural. Some people like to dilute it with water but i don't.

For conditoners I use v05 cuz its cheap and my hair is thick so i don't have that kind of money to waste. It works well. I mix some oils in them to make it work even better. You could also try suave as well.

However, everyone's hair isn't the same so what might work for one might not work for another. Only u can determine what ur hair likes. Heck, maybe synthetic products might work better for u. IDK, hope this helps.

A non-offensive question about ethnic hair care...?

My good friend (who is white) just adopted a little girl (who is black). She's a charming little baby! Love her! Anyways, she wants to know if there are any basics in ethnic hair care that she needs to know. She lives in a small northern town and there is really no one for her to ask. Does anyone have any pointers I could relay? She loves her baby and wants to keep her looking pretty.

plz email me ASAP about this there are 1000000000 of pointers about black hair care
To answer your question more i will need to know how old, her hair texture etc etc etc

My one tip? Be sure that she does not wash baby girls' hair everyday! Our hair does not need to be washed as often as your hair does. Overwashing can have quite the opposite affect on our hair.

number one sometimes we can use the same products You need to describe the texture of the girls hair a little girls need water a grease when styling dont wash and comb out her hair everyday I use pantene and the leave in conditioner and detangler with my daughter african americans are surprised that it works in their hair. Besides her hair I see that you are using the words black and white pls teach that people are not colors and recongnize the culture and refer to us as African Americans. Esp with this generation I feel offended when I hear a Caucasion calling me black I quickly correct them. So in a loving way I just want to tell you to be careful in taking another culture on. I use to have a foster care lic and I would have to deal with it alot but you do have to be aware of it.

it's all hair. hers just happens to be more coarse and dryer than most people in that town. that's all.
now, because it is more coarse and dry there are some things mom can do to make hair more managable (what childs' hair IS managable? no matter what the ethnicity)
learn how to braid. her hair doesn't need shampooed every day and to keep it from going every which direction braids are helpful. when the braids start getting super fuzzy take them out, shampoo, towel dry, condition , blow dry. (rinsing, too, just like you normally would) if it is not blown out the scalp will try to hold on to every last bit of moisture when it is braided and it will STINK (personal experience); besides the fact that it will probably tangle more therefore be hard to comb/brush out. but this is when she's a child not baby.

first of all when she gets older DO NOT wash her hair every day or every other day. Black hair is very different and it will dry out. She needs to get acquainted with hair oils and other things. Go to a beauty shop that deals with black hair and they can give more in depth pointers and hair care tricks

Please Help -Ethnic Hair Care in China?

I'm thinking of going to China for a study abroad and I am worried that I will not be able to receieve proper hair care while I'm there. It is for a semester and a lot of damage can be done in that time if I cannot find somewhere/someone who can handle black hair. Does anyone know how I would find more information??

Hello dear!
It depends on which city you go. Large cities have nothing less than large cities around the world. For a semester, you can get a couple of bottles you consider important and necessary, although you might find them in China!
The main problem is the quality of water, on which, of course you can't do much!
Enjoy your stay!

How do I take care of "ethnic" baby hair?

I am white, my husband is african and I 'm expecting my baby girl any day now. I know her hair texture is going to be different than mine and I need to know what to do to take care of it. Do I need to put oil in it, how often to wash it, types of brushes, styles, etc... Any information will be helpful. Thanks!

whathe hell is ethnic hair ..how about curly hair!

Will hair care products for another ethnic group work for me?

I am a white man with ugly curly hair. I have always had short hair and want to try something different. I was thinking about trying a relaxer but my dad told me that african american hair care products would destroy my hair. Not trying to be racist just willing to try something different.

You would want a relaxer for Caucasian hair. African American hair relaxers would be too harsh, their hair strands are much thicker and stronger. If you used them it would either fry it, or break it off. They sell Caucasian relaxers look for one of those.
