Planning a weekend anniversary getaway with hubby HELP want to stay in the MidEast area but romantic too?

I am planning a 5th anniversary getaway (weekend) for me and my hubby. We want to stay in the mideast and would like to drive not fly. I've already tried the Pocanoes in PA and wasn't impressed. Anyone else have any good ideas? I am from Ohio so anywhere in that region is cool with me.

He would like the girls in Japan, or is that too far east?

What is a great weekend getaway city in the Northeast?

Looking for a weekend getaway (leaving out of western massachusetts) for me and my girlfriend. Last year we went to Saratoga Springs, Ny and really enjoyed it. Anybody know of any similar cities with a good mix of outdoor and city activities to enjoy? Also, any good hotels to recommend in the area?

I'd really like to go to NY city, but hotels there look a little out of my price range. Anybody know any less expensive hotels in the city?

lake placid, ny in the aedirondacks---great mountain views right from town, you can tour the olympic sites and ride the luge and bobsled, lots of good hiking, very nice quaint town..similare to saratoga springs but a mountain town

burlington, vermont is a good choice too..similar to lake placid without the oympic sites, LP is more quaint i think

portland, maine--from western mass you can get there in about 3- 3 1/2 hours; awesome town (i know i live here)

or head north into montreal canada--it'll take you about 3 - 3 1/2 hours to get there but you;ll feel like you went to france--its amazing

--these choices are much more affordable then nyc or boston and offer something different

If you liked Saratoga Springs, then I would say you'd like Burlington, VT. It's a little bigger than Saratoga Springs, but it's still a college town (with the University of Vermont). It's right on Lake Champlain, and it's certainly got plenty of outdoor activities as well as plenty of culture because of the university. There are lots of great restaurants and great hiking and other outdoor stuff near there. Plus the entire drive up is really pretty with lots of places to stop along the way.

How would one go about getting a position on a television show such as Getaway?

I am interested in the television industry, as most people are, and was wondering how I would get a job on a show like getaway. This means; what do I need to study, what kind of training it requires etc.

Please help!

Contact "getaway" and speak to their HR department. Ask if you could even job shadow for a day

What's the best place for a weekend getaway within a 6 hour driving radius from Boston, MA?

The girlfriend and I are looking to getaway for the weekend of July 18th-20th. We want to go somewhere new and exciting (we've both been to the Cape and New York City before), but it has to be within a 6 hour driving radius of Boston, MA. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Depends on your kind of vacation. You can get to Montreal in 6 hours. The Berkshires are nice, or upstate NY. Lake Willoughby in northern Vermont is gorgeous - cleanest water I've ever been in. Portland, ME is a fun town, or York Beach.

Newport Rhode Island.

It is SO nice there!

Rockport

Portland Maine. Tons to do, great restaurants, plenty of water views.

i second the vote for montreal--feels like you're actually in europe and really just a few hours away
maine is definitely a good choice--depending on what you like to do you can sit on a beach, any outdoor activity*rafting, kayaking, hiking) or party in portland

I would definitely go to NH. It all depends on what you like to do. If it's nature then NH is the best. I know of a great campground in Webster if you want. Just drop me an email - they also rent campers. I am a huge fan of Laconia, Webster, Concord, and White Lake Region. You always have Maine or Rhode Island too. All I really know in Maine is Old Orchard Beach or the Sacco River, but I had a blast at both places. I live in Rhode Island and you could always hit Newport (VERY EXPENSIVE) or the Narragansett/Point Judith area. Point Judith has the option of jumping on the ferry to Block Island. Which I heard is also very expensive. But what isn't now.

Hope you two have a great vacation no matter where you end up.

Mystic, CT
Lake Winnipesauke, NH
Wells, Maine *Maine is beautiful
Campden, Maine

There are nice resorts and b&b's in Vermont.
You could go horseback riding.

There are places in upstate NY to visit.

Philadelphia, PA is almost 6 hours from Boston.
There is a lot to do there.

There looks like there is a nice resort in Woodstock, VT with a lot to do in the area that is close by.

I found it by googling, romantic weekend getaways in New England. I almost booked a weekend trip there but they want to charge my credit card in advance (2+ months) and I'm not ok with that.

Atlantic City is always a good time and is about 6 hours away. Lake George NY is only 4 hours and it is beautiful, there is a lot to do in both places. Lake George is fairly cheap too.

North Conway, White Mountains in New Hampshire, Wells, Maine; Montplier, VT, Fall River MA, Provindence RI

Montreal - tres romantique!

OhmyGod, I cannot believe that only capricor has the answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BELIEVE HIM!!!

But make sure that on your way you meander slowly on the back roads of Vermont, and spend an afternoon at least in Burlington (dining suggestion: "Taste of Burlington" on the lakefront.
A horrible trite name but a great but unpretentious restaurant). The Eastern Townships area to the southeast of Montréal in Quebec also wonderful for exploring, and, believe it or not, there are some wineries there (centered on the town of Dunham); also some lovely inns and B&Bs; you can stay at one and drive to Montréal to taste the city (trying to do Montréal in a weekend is like trying to do all of N.Y.C. in a weekend!!)

It definitely depends on what you're into...culture, country, outdoors, etc. Several suggestions have been good ones.

Montreal - good for someone looking for the "European" experience. If you like trying to find your way in foreign locales, this is a beautiful city. I stayed in an awesome place in Montreal. http://www.loftjacquescartier.com/Home.aspx
We saved a lot of money staying here over a hotel, and I enjoyed it so much more!

Burlington, VT - still in the city, but significantly less foreign! :D Amazing restaurants, plenty to see and do. Don't miss Penny Cluse Cafe. Yum!

Northeast Kingdom, VT - If you really like to take it to the backroads and explore the New England countryside, this is the place to do it. I've got a few fantastic routes mapped out if you're interested. I tend to prefer the quiet side of a vacation. Hiking, swimming, etc. More than enough of that up there. Lake Willoughby was suggested and that's a part of this corner of VT. It's an amazing glacier lake flanked by two mountains. The town of Burke is a nice place to stay...especially any of the places on Darling Hill Road! If you like camping, Belview Campground is a great spot in Barton, VT on Crystal Lake. It's closer to the highway and a short drive from Lake Willoughby and Burke.

Essex, Clinton, Madison, Old Saybrook, CT - If you like the beach/ocean experience, these are nice areas along the Sound.

I like Old Orchard Beach in Maine. We go there every summer!! have fun n good luck finding a place 2 go

WON a weekend getaway, will I be taxed on the cost of the trip?

I won a weekend getaway from a local radio station, its valued at less than $500, will I need to pay taxes on it?

yes, its taxable. depending on your tax bracket you will pay beween $50 to $150 on it. $0 tax is possible, but only if your income is very very low.

Yes, it's taxable income to you. Even if the radio station doesn't send you a 1099-Misc, you are supposed to list it on line 21 of the 1040.

No,because if you WON the trip you shouldn't have to pay taxes.

Yes you will, but if the value is under $500 the tax will likely be less than $100, depending on your tax bracket - still a prety cheap weekend getaway.

Yes, you will. It is income so you must pay income tax on it to both the federal govt and your state. You did not have to work for it so it will not be subject to employment taxes (soc sec tax and medicare tax). Congratulations!!

It is taxable as other income. You should receive a 1099. I assume most people wont claim it unless they get a 1099

What is a good weekend getaway in the Detroit Area?

I live in the Detroit area and want a weekend getaway, no more than about two hours away. I'll be going in December. Any ideas?

2 hours (or less) to Sunny FLORIDA......

Frankenmuth
Cabela's/Dundee (if you're a hunter/outdoorsman)
Lights Before Christmas @ the Toledo Zoo

Well, if you're into water activities at all, you could check out the Kalahari Water Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. They have indoor surfing, etc. Fabulous. Their website lists tons of different water-related activites they offer.
Website: www.kalahariresort.com
Maybe they have some great winter rates.

Me and my family live in Detroit also. Our city is so oddly placed that even Chicago is 4 hours away. So instead of leaving the city, we thought of all the things Downtown that we had not done. So they have the two new casinos, went to both of those but the MotorCity Casino is better and the rooms are gorgeous. They are so technologically advanced its ridiculous. There are tons of restaurants in there and they are building a small theater in there for concerts. We like the museums Henry Ford and Greenfield village in Dearborn. I'm not much of an art person but they just remodeled the DIA.

We have been to Frakenmuth twice and we probably won't go back for another 10 years, all it is is one strip that has high priced restaurants and shops and horse carriages. Not that spectacular. But its about an hour and half away. The best part was Bronners Christmas Store, but they are overly priced also, but you can basically get anything Christmas out of there.

I would just say book you a room at the new casino, which again is very nice, and discover your own city. Trust me you'll like it a whole lot more.

Any Ideas for a 2 day getaway close to Columbia MD or to Charlotsville Va?

Does anyone have Ideas between the two area to take a Sat and Sun night getaway. Something interesting but not to expensive maybe something with waterfalls or hiking maybe a B&B ? Is there a place that you may have been that you would sudjest?

Two words... Hotel Roanoke!
It is a fabulous place to stay for a couple of days and there are great places to hike, like Dragon's Tooth, within a 30 minute drive.

Look up Luray Caverns in the Shenandoah. Or if you want More human contact look at downtown Fredericksburg. There is a great bed and breakfast downtown, lots of unique shopping and plenty of restaurants to go to.

The SHenandoah Valley! It's beautiful and cheap

If you want country you have the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley near Charlottesville. I would recommend a little quaint town called Lexington, VA about an hour west of Charlottesville. Horse carriage rides, shops eateries and it's close to Goshen Pass, as well as, the picturesque Blue Ridge Parkway. Columbia, Md is close to Annapolis which has a very walkable old town. It's also close to Baltimore and the Inner Harbor. Fantastic aquaurium. This area is also known for great crab cakes! Both these areas have so many things to do you will certainly be able to fill up a weekend. Have fun!

what would you do for a birthday getaway?

I am wanting to plan a LAST MINUTE getaway. We have a money limit of about 250 dollars per person for the actual trip not including food or party money! We live in West Virginia and we are all just wanting to have a great birthday weekend we won't forget. Any ideas?

My most interesting birthday was on my 40th. My husband didn't tell me what we were doing. We first went out to dinner at a nice restaurant overlooking the ocean in Del Mar Calif. Then we walked out of the restaurant and up some stairs to an office. We walked inside the office and my husband said to the lady behind the counter. "I am here to pick up my hot air balloon to fly." I was flabberghasted. My husband is a pilot but I didn't think he could fly a hot air balloon. I was terrified at first. So we got in a van and went out to an open field where a bunch of hot air balloons were set up. Needless to say he did not fly the balloon. A professional did the flying. It was really a fun experience though. I would recommend it if you have never done it before. The surprise of it all was half the fun too. You could have the dinner and the ride for less than your $500 budget and I would think a balloon ride over the West Virginia countryside would be delightful.

What's an interesting and fun romantic getaway for people in their 30's?

My fiance and I are looking for someplace to getaway just for the weekend - We live in NYC, so someplace nearby. I want to find something fun and creative to do - any ideas?
Thanks!

Find a little bed and breakfast.

Do you havve suggestions on a romantice weekend getaway?

My husband and I want to go on a romantic weekend getaway here in our state of Texas? Our summer got off to a bad start, and we are needing something inexpensive. Any suggestions?

well, go find a hotel somewhere a couple hours away from you that has places to go around it and nice restaurants....or, even though this may not be your idea of "romantic" a cheap thing to do would be to go camping....just the 2 of you out in the wilderness.....there's always plenty of things to do....taking walks together, sitting by camp fires along during the night :-) and roasting marshmallows and going swimming together, just having lots of fun and remembering why you love each other so much :-)
