ABILENE — Dwight Eisenhower's image seemed secure when he left office 50 years ago after two terms as president. He was America's bald-headed, do-nothing, genial golfing grandpa who happened to be in charge during eight years of peace and prosperity.
Ike, the last U.S. president to be born in the 19th century, was replaced by John F. Kennedy, who brought Camelot and a full head of hair with him. The '50s became the '60s, and Eisenhower was forgotten.
"It happened the day he left office," said William Snyder, curator of the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Ike's hometown.
Still, Snyder wasn't quite prepared for a recent encounter with a young father who thought Eisenhower must have been a contemporary of Abraham Lincoln's.
"Something like only 15 percent of Americans who are alive today were alive when he was president," said Tim Rives, deputy director. "He might as well be Franklin Pierce or Chester Arthur to some of them."

Def get some highlights that are in the red family. Maybe caramel or mahogney or even copper. Those will go nicely with your dark hair and natural highlights that you already have.
Can a stylist safely highlight relax hair with bleach?
I am African American, and I am considering highlighting my hair. I have black hair, and I want golden brown highlights. My hair is relaxed. Two months ago, I used a temporary black hair die. I want to know if it is possible to get my hair highlighted. Can a stylist use bleach to highlight African American relaxed hair? If a stylist cannot highlight relaxed hair with bleach, then how does a stylist give their customer highlights? After relaxing my hair, how long do I have to wait to get my hair highlighted at a salon?
you are supposed to wait at least 2 weeks after relaxing your hair to use any type of dyes on it to avoid chemical overload.
if you dont, it may cause your hair to become dry and brittle, damaging it and even making it break off and/or fall out.
i dyed my hair before and then got highlights a month later and it was STILL dry afterwards. you just have to make extra sure that you keep your hair moisturized after using all those chemicals.
bleach is especially damaging. i know because i tried to get light brown highlights on my naturally jet black hair and it really dried it out and made it frizzy and brittle. i hated it and had her dye it back black 2 months later and now its back to normal.
when i tried for highlights w/o bleach, the color didnt show up cuz my hair is so dark. so you might need to use bleach to make them show up also.
you can still get it highlighted, just be careful. make sure you use really good conditioner formulated for color and chemical treated hair, and use some moisturizing products like lusters pink oil moisturizer and olive and coconut oil to keep it healthy and shiny.
just make sure you go to a reputable stylist who knows what they are doing and is all about keeping your hair healthy. good luck :)
What highlight color would look best for dark brown hair?
I'm getting my hair highlighted tomorrow and i wanna know what color highlight would look best for dark brown hair. My dad isnt too thrilled about this idea so he told me not to get blonde since it would look too drastic. Any suggestions? And also, what's the difference between highlights and streaks?
Maybe do a light brown, like caramel or chestnut?

i think streaks are much more noticable and thick, while highlights are thinner and look a bit more natural

I guess the difference would be the ammount, a highlight is a lot of color, where streaks maybe would only be a few .
Is it possible to highlight short hair using foils?
My husband has his hair highlighted but he hates having it done with the rubber cap. His hair is about 1.5 inches long on top, do you think it is possible to highlight his hair using foils.

It would be reaaaaaaaaaally fidderly so i'm not sure any salon would do it but if you know someone who will then go for it. It will be a pain to do as on that short it will be a eal hassle getting the foils to stay in place as they will be so small.
The cap is the better option. Can he not just grin and bear it for a hour or so while its done if he likes his hair highlighted?
Another option would be for them to put the colour straight on using a dying brush they just paint it on - its more random and obviously the highlights would be a lot thicker than the cap but its an option.

I too hate having the rubber cap on my head but I just put up with it and just accept the fact that if I want highlights then I will have to wear the rubber cap.
Remember you don't have to use expensive foil, you can use any supermarket tinfoil, & cut it yourself.

I had med brown hair highlighted, can I highlight it again without my hair falling out?
I had my hair highlighted by professional, she did such small pieces that it barely looked any lighter, so I went back the next day and she did the same thing.....barely noticeable.....so I would like to highlight around my face, myself....most of it is pretty dark but the few wispy pieces she did are very light.....should I even bother?

Highlights are ment to be subtle at first, but you build on these to get more veriaty in your hair.

I've heard of cool brunettes before, but maybe they mean those mousey ashy browns.
Olive toned complexions can do a warm or neutral color choice. If you have dark hair you could do some chestnut brown high lights, or even a slightly lighter shade than your natural color, some dark auburn would be ok.
Dark hair looks completely fake with blonde streaks, not to mention the blonde will clash with the olive in your skin.
Best go to a reputable salon and talk to the colorist there. She'll have a color wheel that you can look over to make the right decision.

Yes its hard to do on your self if you have never done it before. I always recommend for new people do use a highlighting cap to do there highlights that way they are less likely to have tiger spots and bleed spots. Honestly I recommend you go to a salon to get it done. If you don't want to spend a lot of money go to a hair school near by you because those girls and guys actually know what they are doing and have instructors supervising them.
