Any proven methods for hair loss prevention?
I'm wondering if there are any guys out there that have tried hair loss prevention techniques and have you lost your hair after using them? Also has anyone ever used a treatment that effectively regrew your hair after you lost it?
In male pattern baldness hair loss is triggered by a response of the hair follicles to the hormone testosterone. Castration will completely prevent your hair loss. Personally I would keep my balls and stop worrying about my hair.
Do hair loss prevention shampoos really work?
If so, what is the effect, just a gradual slowing down of hair loss, or do hairs actually grow back? Or is all a load of nonsense just to make money out of desperate people? :)
Hi Paul,
There are only two FDA approved medications available for treating baldness, Minoxidil and Propecia.
Minoxidil is commercially known in the UK as Regaine, and Rogaine in the US and is considered the only medication available in the UK without prescription that actually works.
For Propecia (also known as Finasteride), you will need a prescription from your doctor.
So, to summarise, unless the treatment you are using contains either Minoxidil or Propecia, you are probably wasting your money.
How to deal with hair loss? HAIR LOSS PREVENTION? GOING BALD! IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO GROW MY HAIR BACK?
Hello, I am losing a lot of my hair. Does anyone have any advice on how I can grow my hair back? It's really depressing, especially now that I've lost around 15% of my hair. Any advice would be well appreciated!
There's only two drugs clinically tested and FDA approved : Minoxidil (Rogaine and other brands) and Finasteride (Proscar, Propecia, etc.), there are some interesting drugs too like Dutasteride or Follica but there aren't enough studies yet.
If you're into natural stuff, the only one that might be helpful is Saw Palmeto (there are capsules for sale in natural shops) because it contains anti androgens similar to the ones found on Propecia.
Minoxidil if you buy generic brands it's quite cheap and Proscar if you get the generic version it's reasonably cheap and will last you a long time.
Quite frankly all the other stuff are either placebos or scams.

Hope this helps!
Also, why worry? There's good evidence that baldness is more common in men with high testosterone levels. So, think positively - it's not a bald patch, it's a sun-roof for a sex machine!

Does anyone know when Propecia (the hair-loss prevention pill) will be available in generic form?
I think the patent expires soon but can't find any information as to when exactly. There is a lot of fake stuff out there - but at about $2 per pill, a generic form would be nice. I believe its made right now by Merck.
Thanks.
My husband has been ordering the generic version finasteride for years from http://www.rxmex.net . It is authentic, still in blister packs and manufacturers name and expiration dates. You will not get counterfeit meds here. I think he gets around 90 pills for $70 and it is working GREAT!
Ok, got it, I believe it's called Finax.
I want to know the best supplements for hair loss prevention?
Honestly, I had the same problem, but latelesly I've tried one formula, it realy works. Here it is: take whole egg, add one big spoon mayonaiz, 1 sp olive oil. Mix all and apply on your hair, leave it for at least 2hs, you may cover your head with foil paper. take nice shower.
this can be done once to twice a weak, and the other days while washing your hair try not to use the comb.

Hair loss prevention: should I talk to a family medicine doctor, or should I ask the hair salon?
Hi, I am concern about serious hair loss in the near future because I am experiencing seeing more than 10 strands of hair losses every shower. I am 20 yr old male.
Of course, I will probably lose a lot more hair when going into 40's just as my Dad. However, I would like to know of potential prevention methods, and confirm whether if I am experiencing anything serious as of now.
Should I speak to a family doctor, someone from regular hair salon, or other sort of hair specialist? What is the cause of hair loss at young age? Could there be a problem with my shampoo (shampoo/conditioner)? Is my hair gel expiring or something? Does the weather/environmental temperature has anything to do with it?
What are some common ways to maintain healthy and strong hair?
My apologies for so many questions, but please provide informative answer, thanks!!!!
The girl above me was right. 50-250 strands a day is acceptable, but usually not noticable. If you feel that you're losing more hair than usual, you need to see a doctor and see what they say. The people who normally handle hair loss are dermatologists.
Hair loss at a young age can be caused by many things: lacking in iron, certain vitamins ((mostly Bs)) and nutrients, stress, excessive weight loss, or just early signs of androgenetic alopecia ((fancy name for male pattern baldness)).
Shampoo and conditioner is rarely a problem and doesn't actually cause hair loss. A good shampoo to use is the Nioxin line ((sold in speciality shops such as Sally's, Master Cuts and Trade Secret or it can be ordered offline)). I doesn't make your hair grow or actually make it thicker, but it makes it look thicker, so if it starts to look like your losing hair, thats really good. It's pricey but better than Rogaine ((which can actually do worse than any other treatment rather than good)).
As for weather and environment, hair tends to shed more around spring and autum because that is when the hair goes into the telogen, or resting, phase.
To keep your hair strong and healthy, try taking Biotin. It can be found in most vitamin sections and helps the hair grow healthy and faster. It's pretty inexpensive.
I hope this helped you out! Good Luck! =]
Has anyone tried "Rogaine" for hair loss prevention and how effective is it ??
what vitamins and minerals should be part of my daily diet for purposes of hair loss prevention?
hair loss is genetic, not dietary - unless you are severely mineral/vitamin deficient. Take a multi-vitamin once a day just in case, but for most people, this won't make a difference to their receding hair line.
Your best bet is to keep your hair cut short -fortunately, a buzz cut is still very fashionable, and is a great look for those with less hair than they would like.
How can I treat hair loss in its early stages??
I am a 22yo male and am daunted of the fact that i may loose my hair.. Generally, i have thick, dark hair and am only experiencing a slightly receeding hairline.. Can any one advise me of any products that have proven results of hair loss prevention and hair restoration without the adverse side effects associated with most? Thank you!
Well there are only two "approved" options. Minoxidyl and Propecia. Minoxidyl is a liquid or foam that you put on your scalp. It, generally, works best at the top rear of your head (the crown). Propecia is a pill that inhibits DHT. Propecia might be more effective but it may also have more side effects. You will have to use each of these for the rest of your life to maintain any benefits they may bring. Another, new, option is the Laser Comb! It's basically a brush with a couple LED's attached. They are said to stimulate hair follicles back into a growth mode. Other then these, everything else is basically a crap shoot of hard marketing and half truths coupled with large price tags.
