The hidden hazards of holiday hair Easier (press release)

With the holiday season now well under way many women will be having extra chemical or heat-based treatments alongside their normal trim, to help them get that all important holiday hair.

Hair relaxing, perming and colouring are all popular during the summer months, although they can result in a lot worse than a one-off bad hair day.  As a result personal injury solicitors, Russell Jones & Walker is seeing an increase in claims relating to hair treatments, with hair relaxing, also known as chemical straightening, now topping the list of beauty-related claims.

Physical injuries caused by these treatments may include brittle hair, discolouration, hair breakage, itchy scalps, third degree burns, and in severe cases, permanent partial or full baldness.

Specialist senior litigation executive Partha Biswas who specialises in these types of claims explained: “If hair breaks it will eventually grow back, although depending on the length of the hair this might take years. However in the worst cases follicles are damaged irreparably and the patient will never regain their hair.

Hair Relaxing?

Can anyone tell me what is meant by 'Hair Relaxing'. Some articles says that hair relaxing is better than rebonding. I had already gone for rebonding 2 years back, but now the hair is not in good shape. Can I go for the relaxing, how to take care after this and for how long does it last?

i get mine relaxed every two months it keeps it straight unless you have diffrent hair texture i am black so if you were difrrent it would be curly

Women have it so rough when it comes to haircare. Men? We just wake up throw some shampoo in it(in my case baking soda) and we're done. I'd say do away with all hair damaging treatments, let it grow and be healthy.... But for information on Relaxers try this out. Sorry it's the best I got :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relaxer

well from what i know, black people 'relax' their hair and white people ' perm' it, not sure what the difference is but you would always here a black person correct you if you were black and asked for a perm!

Does hair relaxing only work for african american hair types?

I have "white girl" hair, and its really wavy and curly. Would hair relaxing work to give me straight hair and reduce my styling time?

Yes, it would work on you. You should make sure that you interview a stylist that understands wavy hair. Sometimes if your hair has a strong wave pattern and isn't as kinky the relaxer doesn't always straighten your hair (you could end up frizzy and dry). So just make sure that they understand your hair.

it can work on anyonnnne....

You can but you have a different kind than us. I would talk to a hair stylist about it.

I am not black....but i have relaxed my hair with an "african american product" and it worked GREAT! it was straight for three months...and i did it at home so it was no biggie...but if your hair thin...i wouldn't do it...because the products may be harmful to thin hair and you lose a lot in the process (SOMETIMES not all the time) If you do plan to do it...make sure you treat your hair well...conditioning the ends, and what not!

no, i get it done every 4 months & its amazing, & my hair is naturally super curly.. & i just posted a question with a few pictures of my hair if you want to see it LOL

DONT relax your hair. Flat iron it or get it pressed.

No. Anyone can use it, but I wouldn't recommend it if your hair is thin. It will just make it thinner. Also, its very damaging. You shouldn't do it.

What are some good quality inexpensive hair relaxing cremes?

I have very curly hair about one half inch to an inch below my jaw bone and with longer side bangs, but it needs to be relaxed. I don't think anything chemical is good for my hair, sooooo..... could you get me some links for good de-frizzing and relaxing products?

u may want to try a flat iron. the ceramic ones don't damage the hair and you can find very affordable ones at many places that sell hair care products. Prices for good ones are as low as $15

How is hair relaxing creme different from hair serum?

I have very stubborn frizzy hair. One visit to the stylist straightened it but it again became frizzy after a light shower. I have used all my options and now some research shows that I should use relaxing creme or hair serum. Wonder what the difference is between the two.. or are they basically the same thing?

i think a relaxing creme has chemicals in it to MAKE it straight. it damages your hair over time, make ing it even worse.

a hair serum is liek an extensicve conditioner which is really helpful. i suggest bumble and bumble, john freida, or garnier fructise.

I think Deanna B is right about hair serum. John Frieda has a many products for frizzy hair. The one I like best is his Hair Serum, put on after towel drying and before blowdrying (if you blowdry).

where can i find a cheap but effective hair relaxing service in the philippines?

i need a reliable salon that does hair relaxing services, not rebonding. i'm near alabang, las pinas or paranaque. can you recommend a salon that doesn't make your hair brittle and dry and kinky? something that makes your hair look naturally straight. thanks!

How much is hair relaxing at a salon?

How much will it cost for relaxing waist legnth hair at a salon?
(in UK)
I have dark asian hair

My hairdresser offered to do mine for £95 and mines only shoulder length, so I went to Boots the chemist and bought one of their new Straightening Kits and its worked a treat, I now only use my straighteners occasionally and it only cost £15 and took 2 hours to do, I really recommend it.

be more specific about the hair relaxing

DEPENDS ON THE FURNITURE, MUSIC , THE OVERALL AMBIONCE. BUT , GENERALLY SPEAKING, IF THE REST OF YOU IS RELAXING , YOUR HAIR WILL BE TOO!
GOD BLESS

probably too much gossip at the salon to really relax it much

Maybe go to "Curl up and Dye" and really relax it.

The same as short africian american hair.
Do you have AFRICAN AMERICAN HAIR?
If not then don't relax it that ssh will fall out and you'll be bald.

Ionic straightening will start from about $300, old fashioned way around $100. Ionic is a much better method as it lasts longer, but make sure you have a good stylist. Matrix products are the best.

How long do I wait after straightening/relaxing my hair to dye it?

Also I have a dark brown hair and people are saying it looks black, I want my hair to look dark brown not black but I am also geting my hair relax so... how do I wait?
I mean how long do I wait. Sorry, forgot the word long.

just got my hair permed yesterday, and my beautician told me to wait at least a week before I colored it. The reason is it would take some of the curl out, so I imagine for you it would "unrelax" your hair.

How old are you? My dark brown hair used to look almost black, but as I got older it lightened up.

Don't know what to tell you. =[

I always get my hair relaxed. From my hairdresser's point of view, it has to take 6 months before I could get my hair dyed because the additional chemicals could damage my hair.

So what he does is to incorporate cellophane treatment with the hair relaxing treatment. You can ask experienced stylists in your area.

If you are from the Philippines, I believe Bench Fix Salon is a great salon.

you should ask your hairdresser. if your hair is in good condition you would still need to wait at least a couple of weeks otehrwise your hair would fall out. but your best asking a professional as they can tell how good condition your hair is.

Does relaxing your hair change the texture of it?

I am still debating on whether to get my hair relaxed or not.

Yes it does. If you take care of your relaxed hair (like me) the texture will be soft and moisturized. But if you don't take good care of it, your hair will become dry and brittle (damage might even occur). So it all depends on how you take care of your hair.

I know somone that did it a couple of times and after a while she had to keep doing it because when she stopped using relaxers her hair turned frizzy and poofy. Before she used it her hair was kinda curly and now its not anymore.

Yes, it wrecks your hair. Try deva curl products! You will learn to love and embrace your curly or wavy hair. Leaves hair soft and shiny and manageable. Don't ruin your hair with chemicals...

Hair relaxing. Has anyone had it done before and what were the results?

I'm thinking about getting it done, but i want to do alot of research before i make my decision. I want to know peoples own experiences with relaxing their hair and how it affected them.
i have thick hair also. its normally like a bush if i don't strighten it. so my hair is thickk, wavy nd slightly frizzy.
any ideas of price?

i've had my hair relaxed. However I usually get it done annually b/c it can damage your hair. I naturally have afro hair so my hair can sort of take it,what type of hair do you have? B/c i think the thinner it is the more damage can be done. It works really well though for me and it usually stays straight for a while (it mostly depends on when i next wash my hair b/c my hair goes slightly curly when i wash it).So again the amount of time it will stay straight depends on your hair type i think. For me it takes a few hours to get it done and when they put the product on your hair it can itch or burn but again the amount of time the product is on depends on your hair type. But the results are great, because my hair was so thick earlier, having it relaxed has made it easier to control and style. But just be careful of how often you have it done b/c of the damage it can do. I think its a good idea researching it and make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing to do it(although im sure you know this already). If you have any more questions i'll be happy to answer them!Hope this has helped!Good luck xoxo

what is hair relaxing? How does a realxed hair look like?

what is the difference between hair relaxing, rebonding, straightning and permanent waving?

Hair relaxing is done when you have curly hair, you get it chemically relaxed so that your hair will be straight. Straightening is what you do to straighten your hair, but it is not permanent, you use the straightening iron and make it straight, this method will stay straight until your hair gets wet. A permanent wave is just like you say, a wave that is permanent. Hope this helps you hun.

Relaxing Own Hair- Steps and Suggestions

More than two years ago I wanted to self-relax, I got annoyed at the exorbitant amount I had to pay my stylist and at the same time a friend of mine who frequently relaxed her own hair (it looks gorgeous by the way) called and asked me if I wanted some of her Affirm relaxer because she had too much left over and she feared that it would spoil because she was going on a long stretch.

I realize that I couldn’t handle relaxing on my own unlike some of my girlfriends, who are quite happy to not allow a stylist anywhere near their precious tresses. My cousin said that relaxing hair with a hairstylist is like a relationship once you get burned you never want to go back. If that is your story and you are determined to do your own hair. Here are the steps:

Tip: If you are a first timer, try ‘relaxing’ your hair with a deep conditioner and see how well it turns out. Do the same process as you would a relaxer as a test run. Remember that chemical relaxers have serious chemicals that can burn your skin and should be handled with care.

Before A Self Relaxing Session

Make sure that your hair is ready for a relaxer. Check the7 Things To Do Before You Relax Your Hair, to ensure that your hair is ready. You will need to have on hand: rubber gloves to protect your hands, towels, combs, application brush (invest in one), robe to protect your clothes, clock and mirror. It would be good if you had a mirror before and behind you so that you can clearly see your hair in both places. Set aside time to relax hair, most self relaxing sessions can take up to four hours including washing and drying hair. Protect your hairline just as your hairstylist would. A good protectant is Vaseline. Wear your gloves, no matter how attractive it may seem to use your actual hands to smooth out your hair, always wear gloves. Invest in an applicator brush it is much easier to manage especially if you are not experienced. If you are using a comb, use the back of a comb....
