Utah Covers Announces Tips For Hot Tub Owners PR Web (press release)

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) October 05, 2011

As a Utah Hot Tub owner, one might realize that saving energy is paramount and worth any effort to curtail. In the long run, a hot tub owner's wallet will greatly appreciate it. At Utah Covers, their hot tub specialists have recently announced some tips to accomplish energy conservation.

At Utah Covers , they state the first priority is to expend energy only to get the hot tub water hot when it is absolutely needed and to maintain that heat for that specific period of use. Another added benefit from this tip is that it will drastically prolong the overall wear and tear of the components of the hot tub.

Some additional conservation tips provided by Utah Covers include: 1.) Using a timer thereby so that the hot tub owner can get the water hot only when it is needed. 2.) When the spa is not being used, it is imperative that the hot tub owner securely lock the cover tight so no heat is allowed to escape. This can be done by ensuring the hot tub has a proper hot tub cover installed. 3.) Make sure that any valves are closed off which will prevent the warmer air from leaving the hot tub. 4.) If the hot tub owner uses the hot tub only a few days a week, it is best not to lower the temperature on the days when they are not using it. Instead, it is best to set it in the economy mode of the hot tub if it has this option. 5.) If the hot tub owner is fortunate to have a hot tub with a sleep mode, make sure you take advantage of this. 6.) If at all possible, try to erect fencing or some form of barrier to keep harsh winter winds from cooling the water.

What is the best way to restore/treate a weathered hot tub cover?

The cover on our hot tub is about five years old and is moderately weathered.

By "weathered" I mean the brown color has faded in some spots and the top itself is more coarse to the touch than when it was new.

I treated it with some Armor All leather product about a year ago but it didn't work as well or for as long as I had hoped.

Looking for recommendations for a better way ..

I'm giving the tub a major pre cold weather going-over this week.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Just like anything wearing away from the sun, rain, or other weather elements, its too late to get it back to perfect condition. But, you can make it look better by rubbing on a wax or solution, similar to the stuff that you put on car interiors. If the hot tub cover is leather, plastic, vinyl or the like, you can use any polish that deals with that, even the car ones. You can find it at any store you buy products like that i.e. Target. And, when trying to restore like you said you already tried, you may need to apply the Armor All at least once a month not just once a year.

Take a look at the link below and you will see the impact of UV on buildings. The same UV and solar radiation cooks your cover. Some of the temperatures we documented were just short of boiling temperature, imagine what that heat will do to your cover.

Shade works the best

Start by cleaning it with Top Secret Coatings Etching Cleaner, then Prime it with Top Secret Coatings Marine Primer and finally coat it with Top Secret Coating's One part Epoxy. This will make it look new, and protect it against weather conditions, water damage, UV Rays, general wear and tear and much more.

Can you use spray foam inside a hot tub cover?

I have a water logged hot tub cover. Can I take the foam filler out and use the spray foam they use in house installations?

If you do you will certainly ruin the cover. If you want to fix it you will have to take out all the filler and replace it with the same size and shape of filler material that you took out. If you just spray expand a foam in there it will ballon out at different rates and it will be mis shaped and useless for a cover. would be a lot of fun to watch though. Use enough and it should explode.

Sure, why not? What have you got to loose? The covers shot and all you can do is try it. Worst case scenario, it dont work and you gotta buy a new cover.
Be certain to use the maximum expansion type foam for hours of fun.

How to repair a hole in my hot tub cover?

How can I repair a hole in my hot tub cover? I put a hot ramen noodles cup on the hot tub, came back outside, and there was a hole that the cup of noodles had burned through the cover! How can I (inexpensively) repair it? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the foam is damaged there isn't a cheap and easy fix. If the vinyl is damaged then the fix is easy and cheap.

Things you will need to repair the damaged vinyl:
1. A can of waterproof vinyl glue suitable for patching vinyl. You can find this stuff at your local pool store. Its commonly used to patch holes in vinyl pools. It should cost no more then ~$20
2. The same grade of material that your spa cover is made from, ideal the same colour. Typically, most spa covers are skinned with marine grade vinyl and your local pool store should help you with this again. Alternatively, an upholster should also help you with this. You will need enough material to cover the damaged area in order to make a patch plus a little bit bigger. So that means if you have a 2cm x 2cm damaged area make the patch bigger then the hole (like 3cm x 3cm). If your lucky they might give you some scraps for free.

Cut the patch so that it has rounded corners. This will ensure that the edges won't uncurl and the patch comes off. Apply a liberal amount of glue to the underside of the patch and flatten it down. Allow the glue to dry for at least 24hrs.

And BAM your done.

How to repair hot tub cover?

My dog tore the vinyl top of the hot tub cover to shreds. I can't afford a new one right now. Any ideas on how to fix it up so it will look ok for a year or so? I was thinking about maybe making a design of different colored duct tape, but didn't know how that would look or hold up in the sun? Help please.

I work for a hot tub cover manufacturing company. I'm afraid duct tape would be your only answer. There is really no other way to put it back together. When you can afford one, ask your local spa store to find a "bone pile" cover that will fit your spa. They are much cheaper.
My company is Cedar Mountain Spa Covers, 1-208-772-9176 if you want us to find one in our stock and send you one.
my email is stefsnyd@hotmail.com
OR, you can send me measurements of your spa, and I could make a cover for your cover, is the styrofoam in good shape still? Because I could just sew the "skins" and send them to you and that is way cheaper still. Let me know.

torn to shreds sounds like it can not be fixed, use some wood to cover the hot tub untill you can aford a new one

How to remove Purple PVC Primer off of vinyl siding and hot tub cover?

I was making a potato cannon and i spilled like 3/4 bottle of purple PVC primer on a hot tub cover then i wiped it off and being the idiot i am got it on the vinyl siding. How do i get this off lol.

I think I would call a local plumbing supply store (not a giant chain). If they don't know, they may have a plumber there is the store who they can ask. Happened to me once when I had an oddball question.

You aren't. It dissolved the vinyl and the dye is in there. Maybe the sun will bleach it a little over time, but I think you have made a permanent change to the exterior.

The vinyl cover probably is damaged. The cabinet might be able to take some Methel Ethyl Keytone(hardware store). I think Goof Off is the same thing or Oops!

You're out of luck my friend. Any heavy chemicals agents that remove paint and so forth will only damage your cover/siding more. Deal with the stain or replace it. Sorry.

we are desperately trying to make a hot tub cover for a 7X7 hot tub.....any ideas? It will be set into a porch

we are desperately trying to make a hot tub cover for a 7X7 hot tub.....any ideas? It will be set into a porch

I suppose you could use marine grade plywood in 4 section and cover it in vinyl. Sewing the plywood into pockets like a pillow case.
Sounds like a lot of trouble. I would just buy one.

why would you not just BUY one? It needs to be insulated to retain heat, and be made of a material that is highly resistant to moisture-related decay. Plenty of companies make such products for hot tubs.

TREATED PLYWOOD 2 SHEETS CUT TO FIT - ATTACHED TO A 2 X 4 TO GET IT UP OFF THE TUB & HELD TOGETHER WITH SS DOOR HINGES - WORKED FOR ME, I'D FLIP IT & LET IT SLAM OPEN & THEN SLIDE THE WHOLE THING OFF & LEANING AGAINST THE TUB

I want to agree with BUY ONE, but I have 2 cents to offer.

Not knowing at all your notion regarding aesthetics; but believing that it may not be subject to severe condistions; and perhaps insulation might be a thought; but without the weight and cost of PLY; why not 2 4 x 8 sheets of 2 inch contractor grade foam; used for insulation.

Cut to fit; glue/tape/paint, cover with fiberglass mat or cheese cloth etc etc etc. Hinge in the middle with tape etc; add something to strap it.

Might sound tacky, but certainly would serve a purpose until something else came along; like a large TARP????

Steven Wolf

Get some thick foam sheets and cut them to fit inside the tub floating on the water, cover everything with a plastic tarp.

The typical cover for a hot tub is just 2" styrofoam board in a vinyl case. You can buy the styrofoam at any building supply store. You can cover the foam with tarp material, or something more expensive. Wouldnt cost much to make, and of course, you can always goto a spa dealership and purchase a ready made cover. If you make it yourself, you can even make it a folding cover, so it takes up less space when the tub is in use.

Here are a few links to check out - even if you decide not to purchase one, you can look at how they are made.

Whew... a cover is about saving energy period. If it is not a cover that keeps the hot air in it is going to cost you money so making something that really doesn't do the job is going to cost you a lot more money over time. Use your head please... IF your going to keep the cover for 2-3 years use www.spacovers.com. 235 delivered. if you plan on keeping this sucker use wwwraynercovering.com and it will last ten plus. for 400 +. Because it is 2" closed density foam that will not absorb vapor. Personally I would get it.

Where is a good place to buy a cheap(er) hot tub cover?

My hot tub cover is toast and I need a new one. Unfortunately the ones I have seen around my area are in the $400 range. Is there anyplace online or in the metro Detroit area that I could get a better deal then this? Please help!

Usually it is the tub that is toasty..ok that was a bad attempt at a joke, lol. I would put an ad in the local paper,"looking to buy" someone may have one from their non working tub.

What can you do to prevent or fix a soggy hot tub cover?

I have a cover for almost 4 yrs and just in the last week or so it got all soggy and its so heavy I can hardly move it ..I know there is water or ice built up underneath the top..We had a soggy bad winter with lots of rain ..Will it dry out,,Or can I put a hole in it to release the moisture or what? Thanks ahead for any advice.

Welcome to the world of Hot Tubs Manufactures. Hmmm you bought our tub now we need to get you to buy something else. 99% of the makers of covers use an open cell foam core that will absorb water. It will only get worse. The plastic membrane that wraps the foam gets destroyed by the chlorine/bromine or ozone you use to sanitize your tub. Thousands of little holes develop. Eventually the foam does reach a point where it will not hold any more water and I suspect that has happened with the others where they said water drains out of theirs. It's not going to do it with the foam. There's no fix for it. I have played around with them for 7 years with no success. The vinyl cover will be next to die since it can't support the weight and the hinge support if your cover has one. A company called Rayner Covering makes a Closed cell foam cover 2# density that does not hold water. It's the one to buy. Be sure to take your cover all with a lot of care each time you use it to try and make it last. Buy a cover lift!

My hot tub cover smells when I lift it off. It's a newer cover,so is there anything I can do or clean it with?

I am new at this hot tub & pool thing, and I can use all the help or answers I can get! The chemicals in the water are fine, just about ideal, but just not sure what to do about that cover! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

How do you get your dog (mastiff/ rottie cross) to stop eating your hot tub cover?
