After the slopes, take a dip in Colorado's Strawberry Park Hot Springs Austin American-Statesman

&Mdash; Strawberry Park Hot Springs is to your average hot tub what Barton Springs is to a typical swimming pool.

They're nothing alike.

It's more natural, more rustic, more scenic — and perfect for outdoorsy types who'd rather jump in a creek than a cement pond.

The staggered series of pools, dammed up and surrounded by pine trees and big boulders, looks best with snow sifting over it. It's best visited at night, too, when stars sparkle and snow glistens.

Beware, though. If nudity makes you squeamish, don't go after the sun sets, when some folks don't bother with swimsuits.

The pools vary in temperature, from stay-in-too-long-and-you'll-get-parboiled to pleasantly warm. You can even leap into the stream at the bottom if you're into ice baths. I tried it, and it left me gasping and refreshed.

Bobbing in neck-deep water, scanning the skies or holding your spouse's hand, you'll slip quickly into the hippie-dippie bliss of the place. (If you don't appreciate hippies, steer clear. The granola vibe is all-encompassing.)

Syracuse University Hot Tub Party

Where does this hot tub hose go?, Part 2 (Ozonator)?

Dr. Hot Tub gave me a good answer regarding what a stray connector tube is for in my hot tub -- the ozonator. However, I can't find the ozonator -- where is it in relationship to my other devices (the motor, the heater, etc.). See photo:
http://mysite.verizon.net/mx45/hottub_hose.jpg

Paul,

It's not int the picture. Your ozonatore will either be a long silver looking tube, A black tube with the words Balboa on it, or a small grey or silver rectangular box that will be 6-8" by 6-10", with some sort of hopelly small hose likecoming from it. The easiest way to find it will be open up your spa pack look for the words ozonator where the plugs are and followit back to it. Who ever sold you the tub might have removed it. If it is the old style of ozonatore using a light bulb as the source of UV rays then you need to go ahead and replace it with a modern gas plasma CD ozonator. The light bulb style go bad really quick 2 years tops most of the time. Feel free to call us at 888-atkippy, if you need to reach me and I can talk your through it over the phone. Better picture of the interior of the are are needed. I would go ahead and take one of the pumps to where we can see your shafts. I bet they are corroded and someday soon you will be needing to replace it too. A pic of the heater inside the spa pack would be nice too.

carpenter ants in wood part of hot tub spa?

Here is an ole fashion cure
Take a shovel of one ant bed and a shovel from another ant bed and mix the two and they are goen for ever.

Get some Ant-B-Gon Dust made by ORTHO. It works like a charm for me.

Maybe they'll build on...

any kind of ant poison is fine.how many have you seen and for how long?if its been awhile you mat have a problem with the wood frame arount the hot tub.if you have easy access to it ,take a look and see if any damage.you would be suprised at how fast they can eat up the wood.good luck

Are condoms still effective in a hot tub?

If im doing a girl in the hot tub with our body parts underwater (obviously) will all go well? Will it break? Or melt?

wow thats a good question,
I found this online
Finally, although condoms do protect against both pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, they are a risky birth control method to use during pool sex or hot tub sex. They can possibly rupture from decreased lubrication and possibly deteriorate from heat, chlorine, or oil-based substances in the water (i.e., tanning lotion, sun screen, bubble bath, etc). Plus, there is the added threat that the condom can slip off if water gets into it, and a man may be unaware of this happening. Also, keep in mind that although hormonal methods of birth control (like the pill, NuvaRing, Mirena IUD, and the Ortho Evra Patch) may provide pregnancy protection, these methods will not defend against any sexually transmitted diseases that can still be spread during water sex.

if its cheap comdom i wouldnt take any chances
but if not it should be ok

A bad idea, will most likely break or slip off

Absolutely not! My brother got a girl pragnent because of lack of lube and slipping off but before it came off it ripped from this.

Dude the only thing you may run ito is the water from the hot tub is going to wash away the lube because the lube on the condom it water soluable so it may be a task putting it in cause it will just be rubber no lube to help glide it in then it could break cause of the strain on the laytex trying to enter without the lube

hot tub parts?

what are the things called that split a pipe into like 8 others that go to jets
splits a hose into 8 other hoses

I always heard it referred to as a "manifold." I built mine with a series of T or 4-way PVC connectors.

Waterway makes the Manifolds you are looking for. Google "Waterway manifolds".

Will an ozonator work as well as a brominator on a hot tub?

The bromine system on my ThermaSpa 5 person hot tub has gone bad and parts are no longer available. Will an ozonator work in place of the original Bioquest system? We are not big fans of chlorine.

I assume you have an automatic feeding brominator in your hot tub. You can purchase (relatively cheap) a floating brominator for your hot tub that works more or less as well compared to automatic ones.

Ozone systems are generally ok. They can be costly to purchase and may be complicated to install (but this totally depends on your hot tub). Once installed the ozonator should do most of the sanitizing inside the tub. However, it is NOT a replacement for bromine/chlorine. You will still need a reserve of bromine, just in case. Yes its true that in the long run you may save money with an ozonator but the units will eventually fail and will be costly to repair or replace. Typically and depending on the brand and type of ozonator you have, the units last for a few years before they short out due to the corrosiveness of the ozone gas being made.

Yes it will work GREAT and you will save you money in chemical costs

An Ozonator system will help as an alternative to bromine but keep in mind that it isn't as effective. You should still use a small amount of bromine granules on a regular basis as an effective oxidizer. This will save you money in the long run though. Good luck!

What does a hot tub check valve do?

What is the purpose and function of a hot tub check valve? Is it an essential part, or is it an accessory that my hot tub can operate without?

Your hot tub check valve will probley work with out it,but its to stop the water running back the other way. If the water runs back through the heater it mite turn it back on and stuff your heater. and it keeps the hole system primed.

No clue...

check valves make water pass in one direction only... im sure it's the same with hot tub check valves

It is necessary to keep water in the jets so when it starts up it does not blow air into the tub and water everywhere else.

How do I replace a hot tub light bulb?

Our light bulb in the hot tub is not working suddenly. The bulb is likely burned out. Do I have to drain the hot tub to replace it or is it something accessible from within the frame of the hot tub?

Also, does this mean the bulb is burned out or is there something else wrong? I read online about checking different parts.

Open the access cover and look in the frame and you will see the back side of the light socket.(you will see two wires going to it) Usally the whole socket will twist out but sometimes they have a tab like a pill bottle that you have to press before twisting. Most brands have a 12volt bulb that you can find at any home improvement store.

Would you let your wife use part of your pole barn for her to have a hot tub for the winter?

She already took over the man bathroom.
And yet, she has stayed away from your work shop area of the pole barn. You will have to move the corvette for space.

Of course. A hot tub can be very romantic. No one said you had to wear clothes. Moving a corvette is a small price to pay for the intimacy that may develop between you two.

Questions about a hot tub?

I just got a hot tub off this person and was wondering how to get it installed. We just have the tub part. We know about building the houseing for it. We just ain't sure about hooking it all up. There are several hoses that we will have to buy. We aren't for sure if it has the motor or not. What kind of pipes will we need to get it up running. How do we know if it runs on 110 or 220. If it runs on 110 than we can plug it up out back. but if it's a 220 how do we go about doing that. If any one know of a website to show how to hook everything up would be greatly appreciated.
