But those people all have something to do in addition to having big beards — and theirs aren’t nearly as long. Thus, “Whisker Wars” seems to be an unintentional study in a pathetic gauge of self-worth, in which the beard is the means to an end.
Nowhere is this more clear than with the main antagonist of “Whisker Wars,” a national beard champ named Jack Passion. (A lot of the competitors appear to work under assumed names.) Hawking his book and souvenirs wherever he goes, the vainglorious Passion sports a wavy red beard reaching almost to his waist. In describing his beardly ambitions and business plan, it only vaguely occurs to him that he has built his life around a sham title — king of the beard dorks — and that without it, he’d have no livelihood.

My wife and I have been happily married for 15 years. I am 20 years older than she is. I'm 55 and she'll be 35 in August. For about 5 years now, I've been letting my beard grow (most of it is gray) and like big mustaches. I also hate getting hair cuts. My wife has been telling me that she wants me to start trimming my beard and mustach to have more of a clean-cut look. I hate shaving my face and dying my beard. My wife has lost some weight and wears size 10-12 pants, always highlights her hair, goes to the gym, takes care of our home needs including very good home cooked meals. Our daughter who is in high-school also tells me that I should do something about all my hair. My feeling about this is that I love big mustaches (always have always will), and love big beards, if this is the way I like to look, without disrespect for my wife and daughter, why should I have to change what I like for them? My wife is happy with my physic (I workout everyday), but not my looks. Can anyone help?
That should be a compromise between you and her. You'll both have to decide what is more important, the hair or the relationship (unless you both just like having a tiff about nothing, in which case you both already have what you want). ;-)
