5min Time Lapse of In ground pool install

Inground pool??
how long (on average) does it take to install an average sized inground pool?
It depends on numerous factors. Site access, size and type of pool, # and experience of the installation crew, sub contractors doing their bit on time and the weather. A company I once worked for, installed a 16X32 vinyl liner inground and had it filled , running and heating in 3 days from the initial dig. The excavation itself took the better part of one day of that. The site access was easy and the weather was perfect for all stages of construction. No additional landscaping was ordered, so that also made completion quicker.
The process can take 3 days to 3 weeks.

When buying a inground pool liner, is it better to go with the thicker ones?
My husband and I are buying a replacement liner for our inground pool. We've have noticed that liners vary in the "mils" We have seen them as thin as 16 mils and as thick as 30 mils". We don't know whcih is better. Common sense tells us thicker would be more durable, but someone told us that the thicker ones are heavier and in turn, might start to tear away from the pool walls. Does anyone have any reccomendations on how thick of a pool liner to buy?
Thicker is better and will last longer. It shouldn't separate from the wall if it is fit properly. Excessive chlorine can cause the liner to shrink and you need to make sure the water level doesn't get low. The water holds the liner in place.
What is the difference between an inground and above ground pool heater?
I am looking to purchase an pool heater for my above ground pool and want to know if I can use an inground pool heater for an above ground pool? Is ther really a difference that would effect my pool. I have a 15 by 30 that I would like to put a 200,000 btu heater on but am finding only inground heaters in this size.
A heater is a heater.
Keep in mind that you have the top of the pool open to the atmosphere to loose heat just like an in ground pool and you also have all the sides loosing heat to the atmosphere too.
At the price of fuel these days, I hope you plant a money tree near the pool.
If it is an electric heater, the following is taken right out of the UL WhiteBook - "Guide Information for Electrical Equipment". If it meets these Standards, it is safe when installed correctly.
"HEATERS (WBRR)
This listing covers heaters intended for permanent installation in or adjacent
to swimming pools or spas. Heaters for hydromassage bathtubs are
covered as part of the hydromassage bathtub Listing.
Products listed under this category have not been evaluated for outdoor
use, unless they are marked ‘‘For Outdoor Use’’ or equivalent, in which case
they have been found acceptable for both outdoor and indoor use.
For additional information, see Electrical Equipment for Use in Ordinary
Locations (AALZ) and Plumbing and Associated Products (AAPP).
The basic standard used to investigate products in this category is UL
1261, ‘‘Electric Water Heaters for Pools and Tubs’’.
The Listing Mark of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. on the product is the
only method provided by UL to identify products manufactured under its
Listing and Follow-Up Service. The Listing Mark for these products
includes the UL symbol (as illustrated in the Introduction of this Directory)
together with the word "LISTED", a control number, and the product
name ‘‘Swimming Pool Heater’’, ‘‘Spa Heater’’ ."
This means it will be safe when installed according to the Manufacturer's Instructions, per the Listing, and according to the requirements of NEC Article 680.
How efficient it is, I can't tell you.
200,000 BTU sounds like a lot for a pool heater (I usually see them around 100,000 BTU); water temperature stays pretty stable, compared to the ambient temperature of the surrounding air. Have you considered a solar cover and a smaller heater? The covers are generally installed with in-ground pools, but are available for above-ground use, also.
Whether it is electric or gas-fired, it must be bonded to the pool's bonding grid. Some gas models come with a straight 120 Volt attachment plug on a cord. Any cord connected equipment, other than the pump motor must be plugged into a GFCI protected receptacle at least 10' away from the pool (and the metallic box must be picked up by the equipment grounding conductor for the circuit). Most heaters are hardwired, whether electric or gas. Simply removing the cord and plug attachment and hardwiring the heater may void its listing, rendering it unsafe (or, without a means of proving it is safe, since it was evaluated only for cord and plug attachment). Unless both the pump manufacturer and the heater manufacturer state that the heater is allowed to be on the same circuit as the pump, it must be on its own circuit.
Thinking about buying a home with an inground pool?
We are househunting in Peterborough Ontario. The house we like has an inground swimming pool. We would probably use it all Summer, but wonder what we should consider before putting in an offer on the house. How does an inground pool affect your homeowners insurance ? What costs should be factored into keeping the pool clean and maintained ? What additional costs are involved ? What about opening and closing the pool each Season ? How does heating the pool affect your hydro bill ? If anyone has bought a home with an inground pool, what advice would you offer someone thinking about it ? Thanks to all who can help !
You need good and hot summers to enjoy a pool.I have had an in ground pool for 10 years. It does cost more to insure your home, and it cost's about $60.00 a month to run the heater.Add another $40.00 for chemicals per month and you are looking at about $100.00.I enjoy it and my kids and neighbors love it so the cost doesn't really matter.
Forget it. Its a big expense and remember that you cant just sell it off when you get tired of it. If you do decide to buy it, go
to http://appliancequickfix.com/BTB.html and read the page on pool water. Good Luck.
How much does it cost to maintain an inground pool each year?
I live in Upstate SC, average pool season is May to September. We are considering an inground pool, not sure if we will go fiberglass or concrete. Please advise on the average cost of the maintanence of a pool.
A lot of the cost depends on your water chemistry and if you are going to be using pool store chemicals or regular chemicals.
If you go the pool store route (which is convenient and doesn't require much knowledge of pools and water chemistry) then you can expect to spend up to $200 per trip to the pool store. You may need to make two trips a month to the store depending on your water chemistry, so this can add up pretty quick.
But there's an easy solution to the pool store trap. Most of the chemicals you use in a pool can be purchased from Costco or Sam's Club but don't purchase pool chemicals. Household chemicals do the same thing, are chemically the same product, but drastically cheaper!
Pool store chemical : Grocery store equivilent
pH Up : 20 Mule Team borax (found in the detergent isle of your store)
Alkalinity Increaser : Arm & Hammer Baking Soda (purchased in 10lb boxes at Sams Club or Costco for less than $.40/lb)
Shock : Household Bleach (try not to get the Ultra or any other "flavored" bleach... 1gal bleach = 2/3lb of Shock)
If you opt for a fiberglass or vinyl pool then you don't need to worry about calcium hardness, no matter how much the pool store tells you that you do! The only reason to worry about calcium hardness is if you have grout/tile/concrete/gunite/etc. Water will find a chemical equilibrium and will leech calcium from porous materials that contain it if the calcium isn't in balance in the water. If you have a fiberglass or vinyl pool, there isn't anything for the water to leech the calcium from, so it won't ruin the finish or degrade the pool. Thus, you don't need to worry about it.
Check out http://www.poolsolutions.com/ for more information. Ben is a great guy and has been in the commercial pool business for many years. The products he sells (his titration test kits) are top of the line and I've been using them since he released them.
You may wonder exactly how accurate my information is, especially since any pool store out there will tell you that my information is false. However, I can assure you it is 100% accurate and the only reason the pool store wants you to purchase chemicals from them is because that's where they make their money. In maintaining public access swimming pools I have to submit to county health inspections for water quality. I have never failed a health inspection in 8 years of pool keeping, and have been asked (by the health department) to speak to different apartment complexes about how to maintain pristine pools such as the ones I am responsible for.
Good luck on your pool venture, and welcome to the world of pool maintenance.
P.S. make sure you get an earth filter and not sand. It will keep your water cleaner and you will need less chemicals.
How do you keep spiders out of an inground pool?
We have found many spiders in our pool, such as wolf spiders and brown recluses. How can we keep them from coming in our inground pool?
fill it up with water??? Also if there is chlorine in the water then spiders will stay away.
How much for fiberglass inground pool?
What is the approx. cost to get a fibreglass inground pool put in? I'm in Ontario, Canada. It would be a small-medium size.
Depends on the size and layout. Also taken into consideration your type of soil and difficulty of excavating. When we had our pool done, big surprise, they hit a lime ledge and needed to bring in some heavy equipment, this added 2k to the price.
How do I get my inground pool running?
I just bought a house with an empty inground pool. I have no idea where to get started and I don't just want to walk into a pool store and get taken for my cash since I have no knowledge. What do I do to get started?
An extra note.. the pool is in Florida and the home is a foreclosure. I was informed by the foreclosing bank that they had to empty the water due to insurance reasons (in the event someone comes in and fall in the pool etc.).
Is it too late to purchase a homeowners protection plan to cover the pool equipment and structure? The pool structure is lighter than the ground it sits in so an empty pool could lift and shift as the water table rises. In some cases they can pop out of the ground. When the pool shifts the plumbing likely breaks and you have an expensive problem. Contact a pool inspector to evaluate the pool and equipment/plumbing.
Note when you fill your pool after verifying the plumbing is tight and equipment operational take a water meter reading before and after filling the pool and spa, as needed, and equipment primed and full of water. Pool fill point is typically 1/2 the way up the skimmer opening on pool side. Subtract the two and multiply by 7.48 gallons/cubic foot if your meter is in cubic feet, many are! If in gallons then no conversion is needed.
Write this gallonage on your equipment and on the inside of your sub panel. Take this value to your pool supply place, along with a sample of your pool water, and they can tell you what your pool water needs.
Get a good test kit and learn how to use it!
Looking to add a fence around a inground pool. How much for approximately for materials + labor?
Just bought a house with an inground pool. Average size. We have small children and want to add a fence. Do any of you know approximate costs for material and labor for adding this fence? We live in San Francisco Bay Area, but interested in general pricing.
what is average size commonly found in San Francisco might not by the same standard in my hometown in Florida. First, check with city/county regulations about fencing for pool.
Like here the regulations are very strict and ask for estimates in your area to contractors with good reputation (insured and licensed properly to do this project)
What is the best way to cover an empty inground pool?
Our previously renters destroyed the inground pool on the property. We've had it drained but it will take alot of money to repair it. Right now, we just want to repair everything else they destroyed in the house itself but do want to re-open the pool in the future. Any suggestions? Thank you
