From affordable to luxurious, a look at winter's ski resorts Tampabay.com

Forbes recently ranked 12 U.S. ski resorts for their economical friendliness. The priciest are downright hostile but their ski valets and luxurious accommodations just might make them worth a splurge. • The following are edited excerpts from the Forbes ranking. For the complete report, go to forbes.com.

Budget

Jay Peak, Vermont

Jay Peak is the farthest Vermont ski resort from the major cities of Northeast region, right on the Canadian border. This means to compete with the half dozen huge resorts that require less driving, it has to be cheaper — and it is. Jay has an assortment of modestly priced hotels, lodges and condos around the base area, lots of packages and inexpensive cuisine.

Lift ticket: Adult one day, $75.

Ogden, Utah

Probably the best combination of low prices and truly great skiing in the nation, Ogden's two resorts, Snowbasin and Powder Mountain, offer a combined 10,000 skiable acres. Hotels and motels in Ogden run toward the low price end, most throw in breakfast, most offer ski packages, a ski shuttle bus takes you to either mountain daily, and its proximity to Salt Lake City makes plane tickets here cheaper.

1) Re-post your question. Newer questions get more activity on Yahoo! Answers than old ones.
2) If you do re-post your question, consider why it wasn't answered the first time. Could it be more specific? Could it be worded better? Were there grammatical or spelling errors? Was it in the best category?

Im looking for a luxury resort spa in the US. Any suggestions?

Look in Palm Springs, California

Can anyone suggest a 5 star spa resort in a warm climate some where in the U.S.?

Trying to get away to clear my mind for a few days. I need excellent food, excellent spa treatments, and luxury/ 5 star accommodations. I don't mind paying for a great place to relax. I live in the Northeast so I would prefer to go some where warm but stay in the states. Any suggestions?

Consider “The Boulders”. Not far from Scottsdale, AZ. Has everything your seeking---and much more. Highly recommend it.

Here is a good link.

Enchantment Resort, Sedona Az...none better....spent my honeymoon there..I'd go back, but not with "her"...fly into Phoenix and drive up I-17

Luxury hotel in either Daytona or the Keys, FL???

My husband is getting his R & R from Iraq sometime in May and we want to stay in a really nice luxury resort/spa hotel in either Daytona or (my pick) the Keys. Can anyone recommend a good one that you have stayed at?? I'm looking for no more than 300/night. Please only reply if you stayed at the hotel you are recommending or a close friend did. I need to make this great as it will be 8 months apart when I see him!!! :) Thanks!

+ The one below was just fine for me last time I was there.

The only 4 star hotel in Daytona is The Shores. It's on the ocean and the views are great. You are on the main street with all the other hotels and condos on the ocean. You are next door to the tallest condo which has a resturant called the Top of Daytona which is a circle glassed resturant overlooking the beach. The price of the rooms are below your maxium. Just make sure you don't go when it's spring break or a motor sport week when they do jack up the prices.

I stayed at the Hyatt Key West last year. It was very nice. Rented bikes to see "old" Key West. Took a jet ski tour, went snorkeling, had a great time.

I live in Central Florida, and although I like Daytona Beach, the water in the Keys is sooooooo much nicer. (Clear, blue, warm...)

Have fun.

Perfect Escapes lists a number of luxury hotels and hotel offers in Florida, including the Florida Keys. Maybe that will help you.

How does "Liddy" justify1/2 million spa & resort with your $$ ?

Did the crew working on the A-bomb during the war have these luxuries ? What's the difference ? This is just an economic version of world war ! Heard of anarchy ?..350 million Americans will be rampaging every state/national park killing & eating that runs, flies, hops, etc.. Not to mention intercity crime sky rocketing ! look how many guns have been sold recently ! The gun shops can't keep up !!

Who? G. Gordon Liddy? Isn't he out of jail, yet. If he isn't he should get a Presidential pardon.

Can anyone recommend a great place in South Africa to visit/stay?

We work very hard all year and want something to look forward to. We will be taking a holiday in either Nov/Dec or January next year (yes I know it's a long way away, but we want somthing to look forward to!)

We are well travelled but have never visited SA, and are looking for a combination of a fair amount of luxury, maybe a spa resort, some beach and definitely a safari! Any suggestions?

If it is your first visit - I would say the Kruger National Park! It is bigger than the whole of China and you are most definitely going to stay in luxury and have a safari! At night in your room you can hear lions roar! An Amazing experience! http://www.krugerpark.co.za/ check this site out. Remember Dec/Jan is mid summer and temperatures can reach a scorching 45 degrees celsius! Remember sunblock please!

If you have to be close to the beach - I would recommend Sun City. Deep in the rugged bush-veld, in the heart of an ancient volcano, lies the world's most unique resort, the internationally acclaimed Sun City.
BEAUTIFUL - once in a lifetime!

Don't let people scare you with the stories about crime - just keep your eyes open and be alert at all times. South Africa is BEAUTIFUL! It is so much more than what you can EVER experience on TV!

Enjoy your trip and a lovely stay!

Where in south africa are you going to be visiting?

Johannesburg?
- Gold reef city (Casino, hotel, and theme park)
- Melville (Night life and clubbing)
- Sun City (Casino, hotel and nature reserve)
- Kruger National Park (Safari and nature reserve)
- Monte's Casino (Casino and hotel)
- Emperors Palace (Casino and hotel)
- Apartheid Museum

Capetown?
- Ratanga Junction (theme park)

Enjoy your Stay

Hi,
You should definately visit Cape Town. I have a few self-catering flats or I can help you find something more luxurious that will include your meals. Cape Town offers you beaches, wine routes, the best scenery. The Garden Route is another must. For saffari you can visit the Kruger National Park.

Durban is great, holiday inn hotel is always a good choice for a place to stay

Beachfront Luxury with Canopy Beds?

Hello,

I'd like to stay at a luxury spa hotel on the beach (or lake) that has canopy beds with a white cover over the sides. I am interested in the west coast; specifically Maui, Lake Tahoe or any costal California city. Correction, I don't want to stay in San Francisco.

Please help me, I have been looking for weeks now and I can't find one luxury or resort hotel on the beach with canopy beds.

Thanks

Obviously, you haven't been to the beach that much. Or you're forgetting something.

First of all, most hotels don't have canopy beds because they require a LOT of extra cleaning.

Second, at the beach, you have a LOT of humidity from fog. Salty humidity. Ever been in someone's home who lives at the beach? It's always musty. Same with beachfront hotels. Since it's always damp, they're very musty. It's virtually impossible to get rid of mold and mildew. Add a canopy bed to that, and you have a recipe for disaster.

Have you tried looking at some of the B&B's in Monterey or Pacific Grove? I believe the Green Gables Inn has a canopy bed.

What is the best resort in dominican republic?

I have never visited D.R., so where is the best spot for someone to enjoy a great beach, luxury accomodations, spa treatments, etc.

Fun Tropicale - Located in the Playa Dorada complex, the hotel resides next to its sister property Fun Royale.

Has anyone ever stayed at this resort in St. Lucian?

The Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa and resort? In the Ultra Luxury Beach Rondoval Suite w/ Private Plunge Pool and whirlpool? If you have I would love to know what you thought about it and if you had any suggestions on whether you would recommend staying there or not? If yes why and if not why, please I need some help deciding on a Honeymoon spot and so far this is my top choice!
Thanks for any help given!
Also would you recommend your favorite place to stay while traveling to these places? I really would like all- inclusive, I hear that is a much better deal if you drink and well I drink! And it seems soo much easier to have all food and drinks paid for! I like the idea of knowing it's all paid for- except for the extras we do.

I haven't stayed at that resort but I've seen it and been around St Lucia. I find the whole island to be very depressing. It is a very beautiful island and a great botannical garden that Napoleon's Josephine gave to the people. Touring the island by helicopter is cool. And some great restaurants. But the people have about 48% unemployment and it shows in their attitude. Everyone looks miserable.
Dasheen is a fabulous restaurant to eat and see the sunset (make a reservation).
I didn't care for the island near as much as other islands I have been to and wouldn't go back.
Have you looked at Tahiti? Fantastic place for a honeymoon. Takes a good chunk of money though. Bora Bora or Huahine or do both. Maybe even Vahini Island Resort for two nights, then Huahine then Bora Bora. You will love those places. About 10 to 12 grand for 10 nights would cover everything..
St Lucia has "Jump Up" street dances at night and very very loud music that the locals do and last al night because too many people have no reason to get up in the morning.
If you want no crowds try the Bahamas, like Eleuthera, rent a house on a beach where you will see no one at all probably. Great honeymoon for just the two of you. Super friendly people. My vote is Eleuthera or Tahitian Islands for a honeymoon.
