Oldest ever toolkits discovered in SA Independent Online
Perhaps it was the first prehistoric make-up palette, complete with a 100 000-year-old application brush.
But whatever it was, it reveals our ancestors were smarter than previously thought.
Scientists aren’t too sure what the contents of the two abalone shells were used for, but what they do know is that this is the oldest paint recipe ever discovered and the first evidence of humans using containers.
The shells and a toolkit, that consisted of ochre, bone, charcoal, grinding stones and hammer stones, were found in the Blombos Cave in the Western Cape in 2008.
This is the same site where in 2002 archaeologists found pieces of 100 000-year-old engraved ochre, which at the time was the oldest known example of art.
In an article that appeared in the journal Science yesterday, the scientists who worked on the project argued that this discovery suggested that humans 100 000 years ago were using complex cognitive processes that we take for granted.

How much to tip for make up application at Ulta?
I'm planning on getting my make up done for prom at Ulta.Their basic application is $30 and I'm wondering what would be a good amount to give as a tip.
Thanks so much for your help! Hope you all have a great Friday.
maybe i don't have any taste,
But i never tip when i get my makeup done by MAC.
It does NOT take 30 dollars of product for an application, and it doesnt take (mine anyway) over 30 mins. So, you have to wonder, where does that 30 dollars go?
I DO tip at nail salons, but just not when i get my makeup done.
I figure that is why they charge. To make sure its covered.
Can you recommend a book book that has new trends, but also elegant, for make-up application?
I want to find it for a gift. To teach make up application for a young lady.
Many modeling books are out there. And there are many books that teach women make-up application techniques. I just don't know which one is the best out there.
Hopefully you can tell me your favorite book.
Is the Bobby Brown book a new one? Did you like it?
I am looking for a book, sorry not a magazine.

How do I make up for a poor undergrad GPA in graduate school application?
I got a 3.0 GPA in undergrad and I intend to apply to grad school (PhD) in a biomedical field. Can I make up for it with a good GRE score (e.g. 1300+)?
What other ways can I make up for it in the grad school application?
You really have to get high test scores, maybe do some extracurriculars to beef up the application.
How do I make an application that runs after I make a fake error message pop-up?
I know how to do the message and stuff, but how would I make an application start running after I open my fake error message.
Example:
msg = msgbox("Test","48","ERROR")
And don't try to correct my fake error message code, it's right, fool. :P
Try http://popup-remover.com
Good luck!
How does the face make up application go?
Meaning lets say you have a face without any make up on and you want to put make up on your face following the regular steps from the beginnig to the end. So my question is how does that process go? from the beginning to the end?
these are my steps:
cleanse, tone and oil preventing solotion then a little bit of moisturizer
i primer my eyes with urban decay eyeshadow primer and let that sit for a few
then i put on my shadow, liner and mascara
then i put on my foundation and powder and lipgloss/lipstick and i am ready to go.
Eyeshadow
Eyeliner
Mascara
Blush
Lip gloss
Is that what you were looking for?
2. Foundation
3. Powder
4. Bronzer
5. Blush
6. Mascara
7. Eye Shadow
8. Eye Liner
9. Lip Gloss
2. concelar if i have blemishes
3. blush
4. light powder on my nose and forehead to prevent oily skin
5. eyeshadow
6. mascara
7. eyeliner
8. lipliner
9. lipgloss
- oil-free moisturizer (let dry before next step)
- foundation
- powder
- eyeliner
- eyeshadow
- mascara
- lip gloss
That makeup should only enhance you attributes not cover up you face. Seriously think about it. good luck

Can the mathematics GRE make up for a lack of math courses in my records for an economics PhD application?
I did my undergrad at a school where there wasn't any choice to take advanced math courses (outside the US) and my master's in the UK doesn't have a strong math component. Can the GRE in math make up for that in my application?
If you have a high score on the GRE math subject test it would suggest good mastery of undergraduate mathematics. That might help get you in (depending upon where you apply) but they still may want you to take math courses to make up deficiencies.
The hard part is that it is not easy to get a high score on the GRE subject test without knowing the undergraduate curriculum reasonably well. Many with a good BA or BS in math do not do particularly well on the test.
Now, my comments above refer to the GRE math subject test. The math part of the regular GRE does not cover subjects such as calculus (which are important in economics), so a high score there might not be good enough (again, depending upon where you are applying -- some universities might be more willing to accept you and let you make up the math than others).
Does anyone know where I can take a make up application class in Chicago?
I prefer a professional make up arist who does lessons on the side and doesn't charge too much. (Classes for those who wants to be make up artists). Please don't say a Cosmetology School.
I suggest going to Marilyn Miglans on Oak St. or any good salon down town make up artist will teach you if you are willing to pay. Mario Tricio's, Elizabeth Ardens, Geogette Klinger in Water Tower.
I need help with make up application?
I have a very important job interview tomorrow and I do not know much about application of make up, I really didn't own much of anything so I went out and bought all new makeup. I dont want to look like a streetwalker but I want to make a good impression. I have foundation and it came with a power compact. I have practiced putting it on, but the power looked bad, was it suppose to go on under the foundation?
I bought different colors of lipstick from pink to topaz.
I am 47 years old, but many people think I look around 35, maybe its because I never used soap or or tons of makeup al these year.
Can anyone give me advice about the proper way to apply make up so I can look professional but not over done? This job interview if is for a professional manager position .
I can post a photo of what I look like with out make up id anyone want to see it.
I dont have an blemishes and the liquid foundation I got was a perfect match for my skin color. I have no visible lines on my face or even near my eyes. I thought about using a black eye liner to make my eyes look a bit wider. I consider myself lucky not to show that I am almost 48, but I dont want to over do it or go looking like I am a slob. If I get the job I will be dealing with people all the time, so I want to look good.
Also I forgot to mention that I have some bronzing power and some liquid glow color, would that look too fake?
Since you are just starting out, I am going to give you a few tips to give you a soft, neutral, polished face that is easy to do. Practice in the mirror a few times, tonight. Don't try to go in cold, in the morning.
If you need foundation, apply it smoothly and evenly to get just enough coverage. You don't want a thick, cakey masque. Make sure you blend it thoroughly. You can use a makeup sponge or your fingers. Take it down past your jawline onto your throat and neck and blend it out. Powder, lightly over your foundation after it sets for a couple of minutes. Go easy. If you aren't too oily, you may just need a little on your forehead, chin and nose. If you don't like how the powder looks, just skip it.
Make sure you groom your brows. Just pluck them into a pleasing, natural shape, (when starting out, less plucking is better than more) then use a little clear brow gel to define and hold them in place. If you don't have brow gel, a little hairspray on an old toothbrush will do the trick.
For your eyes, pick a soft, neutral taupe, apply it with an eyeshadow brush, if you have one. If you just have the sponge applicators, pick up just a little colour, apply lightly from your lash line to just above the crease in your eyelid. Blend. Now, pick up a slightly darker value of that colour and apply in the crease and just a tiny bit above, from just out of the inner corner to the outer corner. Don't wing it out past the outside corner of your eye. Blend. Using a clean side, pick up a light, slightly shimmery colour and apply softly up under your brow to highlight your eye. Now, using a brush or a q-tip, blend softly so there are no lines.
Use a liner pencil to make a soft line, just above your lashes, from the inner to outer corner of your upper lids, only. Apply a soft coat of mascara to your lashes. Do an even softer coat for your bottom lashes.
Apply blush with a brush starting with a very tiny amount of colour on the brush at your apples of your cheeks, applying and blending upward along your cheekbone until you just hit your hairline. Apply your blush very sparingly, check it, then add a little more if needed. It is easier to add a little than to take it off. :) Don't forget to blend.
Apply a lipstick or gloss to your lips that closely matches your natural lip colour. Now is not the time to play with bright or new colours. :)
Keep your colours very soft and neutral. Blend, blend, blend. Less is more, It doen't take a whole lot of colour to look pulled together and polished.
You want to knock them out with your mad skillz. Not your makeup. :)
Good luck with your interview! Knock them dead.
I hope this helps a little.
Best Skin Hydrator before make up application?
I'm looking for a good hydrator to apply before putting on make up. Thanks!
I have been using Olay Complete lotion on my face before applying makeup. I swear that it makes me look 10 years younger.
