How did the robot end up with my job? eTaiwan News

I’ve done a lot of television book interviews lately, and I continue to be struck at what a difference there is in the technology in just a few years’ time.

Here is a typical evening at a major cable TV network: arrive at Washington studio and be asked to sign in by a contract security guard. Be met by either a young employee who appears to still be in college or an older person who seems to have hung on with tenure. Have your nose powdered by that person. Have your microphone attached by that person. Be positioned in the studio chair by that person, and then look directly into a robotic camera being manipulated by someone in a control room in New York and speak to whoever the host is wherever he or she is. That’s it: one employee, a robot and you.

Think of how many jobs – makeup artist, receptionist, camera person, producer-director – have been collapsed into one. I raise this point because there is no doubt that the main reason for our 9.1-percent unemployment rate is

Where can I get a good makeover from a professional make up artist in Houston, TX?

I need to find a good makeup artist in the Houston, TX area that can tell me what colors I should use and how I should apply makeup for daily wear. I've tried this before and have been given crazy eye and lip colors, or dramatic make up that you would wear in a wedding or on camera. I just want an everyday look that looks good.

There are beauty consultant in every mall around town. In Dillard's, Macy's, and other department stores at the cosmetic counter.

I'm sure there are plenty of independent make-up artist too, more expensive.

My beauty consultant is located at the Channel counter at Dillard's in First Colony Mall. She works evening hours and weekends.

I know it's a little outside the city, but she is the best.

She will help you find that natural looking combination that works in you everyday lifestyle.

Find a Mary Kay rep

If you have a Merle Norman store in your area that is a good place to start as well.

Both are very good at helping you pick your colors.

A store like Dillard's, Macy's, Parisian's all have make up counters with professional make up artists that can do free make overs and teach you as well.

I have found that if you go to the galleria or willowbrook mall or the woodlands mall or mamorial city they have Clinique stands in Dillards and Macys that are really good at makeovers!

In order to become a professional make-up artist what do you have to do?

Do you just have to go to Cosmotalogy School and then go into businees for yourself or with some type of store or something? I am curious how i can become a make-up artist and become sucessful commercially. I want to work on film sets and photo shoots and runway (fashion) shows.

Cosmatology schooling is essential. Then head for California or New York!!! Good Luck !!!

How does someone go about becoming a make-up artist?

I am very artistic and I would enjoy doing make up for models, weddings, movies etc. I dont really have an interest in special effects make up although if I needed too I would learn.I dont want to do hair. I have read that there is no degrees required to be a make up artist is that true? Is all I need to get into the business a portfolio to show off my work? Is it a well paying career and are there enough job openings?

Well, here is the long and short of it. There is no general rule that says you need to have a degree to work in the makeup industry and often times having a strong portfolio is the most important factor in getting hired for a job. However, many states require that anyone who applies makeup as a business have some sort of license. That means going to beauty school. In New York City, where I live, I had to get a degree in either Cosmetology (hairdressing) or Esthetics (skincare) to be state licensed and work. That sucks as most of these programs will spend no more than 30hrs out of 600 learning hours on makeup. Unfortunately it is what you have to do in order to practice legally in most states. I personally got my degree in esthetics as I felt if would be more helpful than getting a degree in Cosmetology as I had no plans to cut hair EVER and it is a much longer course required for state license in hair. I did find the experience in skincare to be very useful as a makeup artist and it certainly has given me an edge in the industry. I also went to a professional cosmetic program that was a 1200 hour course that involved a whole unit on portfolio development and business as well. That gave me a "degree", but that didn't apply towards my state license. I wish states would realize that makeup artistry deserves it's own licensing board.

If you plan to have your own makeup business I would check with your state to see what licenses they require. If you plan to just do makeup on your own for individuals (like weddings or sweet 16's, etc.) then you can decide if you think getting licensed is worth it, but you do so at your own risk. If you plan to work in a salon or spa or for some editorial work then you will most likely need to be licensed.
To find beauty schools in your area do a search online and request a tour and some information on exactly what the program covers. You want to make sure what licenses (if any) you will be elidgable for upon completion of your learning hours.

going to beauty school for it, if you want. My sister went and she took make up courses, of you can apply for mac cosmetics or any macys makeup counters and if your hired they will send you to some courses. Yes you can make good money with it. And about job openings im sure there is always someone hiring.

you go to beauty school to be an Esthetician. I go to school for managing cosmetology so I will be licensed for hair, nails and skin, but my school also offers classes for girls/guys just interested in nails and another class for girls/guys just interested in skin.

a lot of practice
do your friends makeup and take pictures of them afterwards
like before and after =)

How do I become a special effects or theatrical make up artist?

I am really interested in working in this industry but am curious how to get started does anyone know of any good schools in NY for this. also I heard they have make up artist unions and employment agencies does anyone have any info on those?

http://www.blanchemacdonald.com/makeup-school.html they look super cool. i met representative at a college fair and talked about makeup for an hour!

You can probably look into art schools or cosmetology specializing in makeup.

look into design and art schools and maybe get a job at a department store counter or at a convienience store makeup counter. experience is the best way to learn. good luck

How do you become a make up artist?

Are there any courses i can do to learn all things make up?
Or is it like years at college to become a make up artist?

Hey! I'm currently taking a course in Cosmetic Makeup at college which lasts for 16 weeks and one 3 hour lecture a week and I will be trained as a make-up artist after this 16 weeks! Although I want to go on and train in Photographic make-up and Theatrical make-up after these which will probably last a bit longer. If you're aged 16-19 you can take this as a part time course for free although you will have to pay for the make-up kit and lash/brow tinting and facial kit which will cost around £130. Just look it up at your local college and see what they say! It's so much fun an amazing course! Good luck :]

you would have to do a college course.

you can apply for nvq in beauty at your local college! Do not be afraid as it is roughly a six month course per nvq level (2 - 3)
you may have to pay depending on age and employment status.

look on your nearest college website there shoes be course info on there

How do you become a professional make-up artist for movies?

I really want to become a prof. make-up artist and work on movie sets. Is this aspiration difficult to achieve? and is it something that I can make a living out of? or at least surive on? Thanks!!

welll, you take classes on make up. find what youre good at. go to a good school. get youself out there and yeah. you either end up good or you don't. is it easy? no. achievable? yes!

How much money can i expect to gain doing make up artist?

Where a make up artist can express himself at his best and earn good money?

Start up at a theatre first, at least to build your portfolio. Then pass it on throughout the film industry. I live in Austin, it's a budding independent film industry out here...I may not pull in the BIG bucks right away but as I build up experience and reputation, it will have a good pay off in the end. Trying to bust into Hollywood or NYC is damn near impossible unless you are the best of the best and you've got some insiders to help you out. Good Luck!

Should the photographer, make up artist and hairstylist all meet up together?

I'm new to this photography things...I was wondering if the photographer, make up artist and hairstylist should all sit down together? Or should the photographer meet separately with each individual and go over all the plans, concerns and exchange possible extra ideas?

Any opinions or experiences out there?
It's model shots.

I'm photographer/art director

I would think that they all should meet up together. The photographer may suggest makeup and hairstyles that would make your photo better. As I have learned from having children you shouldn't have the boys hair trim or cut on the day of the picture. Don't ask me why that is what was told by me from a pro photographer. It couldn't hurt to him them all there. If this will be a pic for the memory book it will be all worth it.
