Jock Itch Pouring one out for the Barrel Man A.V. Club Denver/Boulder

The Denver Broncos lost their biggest cheerleader this past weekend: Tim “Barrel Man” McKernan, 69, died of lung failure on Saturday, Dec. 5, leaving behind a rich legacy as the Broncos’ most recognizable fan.

If you don’t know who the Barrel Man is, then you haven’t watched a Broncos game in the last 30 years. McKernan started wearing nothing more than an orange barrel and a cowboy hat back in 1977—on a bet with his brother—and proudly represented the Broncos as their unofficial mascot up to his retirement after the 2007 season. Health problems were preventing him from getting out there in his cardboard cask, but his fervent dedication to the Broncos stayed with him up to the very end.

As a kid, I was a little horrified when they’d get around to showing the Barrel Man at least once on every televised Broncos game. I didn’t know whether to feel embarrassed or proud that someone who could easily be my father was out

Waxing-Facial Hair-Man?

Will waxing my facial hair on my upper lip have negative effect on my skin. Will it work on a man?

It will work on a man - when you start waxing you may get quite a lot of redness and maybe bumps and irregular growth - keep waxing and your skin will adjust. Good luck.

It shouldn't affect your skin too much. It will probably just turn all red for a while. I don't see why it wouldnt work on a man.

it will cause ingrown hairs... it will work but its uncomfortable and the results will not last as long as you like

it will work on a man, but why doesn't he just shave it? it all depends on your skin type... if something does happen just moisturize it.

Waxing usually does not work on mens facial hair unless it is very fine. If you still want to try it go to someone who is experienced in waxing men.

Men's facial waxing?

Is facial waxing okay for men? I hate shaving because the hair just grows back immediately, and it is very coarse.

why not give a girl a facial?thats what i enjoy.

It depends on where you mean? eyebrows are okay and areas on the face where the hair is virgin. Definitely a different story on the beard area, I'm a therapist and I made a guy bleen badly once, trying to wax his beard, once the hair has been shaved for years, the hair becomes to tough, pluck the hair out that you want to get rid of, until it becomes thinner, then try waxing, it will be time consuming but worth it, a good time to start facial waxing for guys is at puberty, when the hair is still downy and soft, good luck.

NO you will sag and become wrinkled sooner then your supposed to because each time you wax, it will loosen the elasticity of your skin. Not a good idea my friend. Just shave every other day. Its sexy.

facial waxing for men?

I hate shaving, it takes too long, and when im finished, the skin is still rough. i know waxing keeps skin smooth for up to 6 weeks or so. is waxing my face a good idea?

no never... no good beautician will do that!! its not good for that area of the face! also as the hair is thick it would hurt alot, and probably take off more skin than hair!!

research laser hair removal... it shouldn't take many procedures and does result in permanent hair removal!! remember though hair is very very strong and can take many attempts to kill the root! but that is your best option! good luck

waxing men's facial and neck hair?

is it possible? i'm looking for info on it and so many people say you can't do it. but i'm looking at videos on youtube and I'm seeing guys at spas and such getting it done. and even if it doesn't remove ALL of the hair, the fact that it would remove even half of it would be great because that would make shaving easier for atleast a few days and just that is good enough reason for me to do it. so if anyone has any info or experience on it, please let me know. i just called a really nice spa around here and they said that they would do it.

i dont care about pain, thats not an issue at all. just want to know if it would be successful.

I've done it for my husband cause he gets really bad razor bumps. I do my own waxing so I know how to and I asked if he's let me, so we tried it. This was our experience, but could be different for you, it was really painful for him. He walked around with his chin out for the rest of the day cause it was really tender. And the worst of it, he got a TON of ingrown hairs when it grew back. But, his facial hair is a lot curlier than most I've seen so this could be the reason. It's like a tight little corkscrews. Anyways, it wasn't worth it to him. On the upside, his face was very soft for a couple of days. If you do decide to do it, try getting this stuff called Tend Skin. You apply it with a cotton swab and it cuts down on the ingrown hairs after waxing. Don't apply it for about 48 hours after cause it will sting really bad. But it'll work well.

Yes, you can do waxing. You can even try the at home wax strips that you can just rub between your hands to warm it up. Then you apply it and rip off in the direction opposite of the hair growth. Sally Hansen has some at home waxing products that aren't too bad.

As a man, can I successfully wax my facial hair?

This is a question I've been meaning to ask for ages. I'm not gay (not that that matters!), but I hate shaving and have always wanted to ry waxing my face. But, because this isn't common among men I guess it must be impractical. But, what about all those drag artists? Surely they must wax. Anyway, my question is can I wax my face without it looking red raw for a week and growing back with a vengeance?

Try a small patch and see.

yes you can...even i do it from my privates

yes

Waxing Facial hair for men?

Right now I'm sick of shaving and sick of stubble. I don't like the ghastly grayish tinge to my skin where you can tell i've shaved.
I'm 17 and my facial hair does grow quite quickly. It's not particularly thick right now but i would like a longer lasting method that will leave my skin smooth.

So guys my question: Is this possible? Can i wax my facial hair? Any products or tips or tricks to this out there?

Thanks so much for any contribution :P

Well, apparently it is possible but you would have to grow the hair on your face to about 2 or 3 mm long at the very least before you can wax it off or have it waxed. You should also know that the follicles of male facial hair are stronger than any other hair including pubic hair plus the hair growth on the face is more thicker than most other body hair. In short, it's going to hurt A LOT and is likely to mess up your skin.

Stick to shaving with a good quality razor with a blade which you replace every few shaves and plenty of shaving gel. Make sure you wash before and after shaving.

By the way, this comes from someone who gets waxed elsewhere on the body, so I have nothing against waxing as such.

Why don't you men wax your facial hair instead of shaving it? It'll grow in a lot smoother, lol?

Of course I don't want them to wax all of their hair off! They can wax their facial hair the same way they shave it!

omg! i think thats such a great idea, then they'll understand the pain WE go through for them!

um.. right,

can you feel pain
^ ^

Because they don't want ALL of their hair gone.

Their facial hair is their sign of manhood.

shaving seems easier and cheaper.

I agree, I would LOVE to wax my husbands face!!

Hell no! I like my beard!

its coarser. i doubt it would come out like a womans lip wax

Not exactly true. Waxing can cause ingrown hairs more frequently than shaving. Also facial hair is frequently course and somewhat wavy or curly in most cases.

Because waxing is for girls and shaving is for real men. That's why little boys want to shave even if they only have pimples instead of facial hair. It is a rite of passage.

shaving's quicker and doesn't hurt as much, but maybe they should create some kind of hair removal method that doesn't hurt as much

isn't waxing painfull... especially on the face???

they just can't stand the pain.. men are total woosies.. haha.! just kidding.. but really, even medical tape being taken off of them when i take their IV's out in the recovery room make them grimace.. haha..

What facial hair. I don't have a hair on my body. I'm not an ape. j/k

What would happen if a man used female facial hair removing techniques instead of shaving?

like waxing or that little super buzz stick thing you see on commercials.
uh, darkroog, there IS the word FACIAL in the question.
dudes... what I mean by WHAT WOULD HAPPEN is like for example: would the hair grow back all weird? how long would it take for the hair to grow back? would we ever have a normal looking beard again? would our skin get weird? & so forth

That buss stick thing doesn't even work very well on women, I don't think it would work on men any better. Most of the hair removal foams for women are made for less testosterone, so maybe they wont work.

Facial waxing,?

Is it possible for men to get there faces waxed like woman do, so that you don't have to shave everyday. If so how long would it last?
Seems to me facial hair is useless, and shaving everyday is a pain, so I would like to know if there is a better way, I know women that get waxed but I have never heard of a man doing this.

You can go to drugstores or any stores and buy Nair. They have facial cream that you put on then you remove if it with water and washcloth. It doesn't hurt at all. If you want it to last longer, the stores sell shaving minimizing lotion. You put it on after you remove the hair. If your embarrrased to buy at stores then go on drugstore.com and buy it there. Be careful to read which one is good and which one is not from peoples comments.

Why don't men just wax their facial hair instead of just shaving it?

Say you have no intentions of ever having any facial hair. Why not just wax it off instead of having to deal with the nuisance of shaving it every day

Good point, I never thought about it before. Probably just because it hurts.

GET A JOB AND BUY LASER HAIR REMOVAL

I used to tell the laser hair removal girl that I spend all my pay on laser hair removal. You will have to look into the relative safeties of various lasers and make up your own mind about laser hair removal. I went to two different laser hair removal places. I am butt white with dark brown hair. At least I used to be! Now I am butt white without all the hair. I used to shave every day and by the end of the day I could feel stubble. So basically, I couldn't shave in the shower in the morning and go out on a date that night because I was stubbly. You could barely see the stubble, but if my husband were to run his hand over my leg, it was stubbly. I had to shower in the evening before I went out, so I could be smooth. I have had the laser hair removal on my face, arms, hands, legs, toes, underarms, and full bikini line. I still shave because every single hair is not gone, but at least when I shave, it stayed shaved and if I skip shaving I am still smooth for a day. I just pluck out the few stray hairs on the bikini line now. I had tried everything: bleaching, waxing, shaving, and depilatory. The problems with unwanted hair are: 1.) hair that is too dark, 2.) hair that is growing too long such as on the face or arms, 3.) too much hair, or 4.) hair that is too wiry. For example, when I was younger, the bleaching worked on the upper lip, but eventually it was just a bushy, blond mustache which looked ridiculous. Waxing was okay until the day I got some skin removed and had a big sore where my sideburn hair used to be. That was the end of facial waxing. Depilatory and bleach irritated my upper lip. I used to use Sun-In on my arm hair but then I had arm hair roots. And still my arm hair was too long and it was too much arm hair. With age, waxing, depilatory, or bleaching were helping but not eliminating hair. I still had to do touch up shaving with depilatory and waxing. I ended up shaving daily. And by the way shaving does not create more hair. Shaved hair is just stubbly...
