Haircut suspects in court Warren Tribune Chronicle
STEUBENVILLE - Three Bergholz Amish men waived an extradition hearing and agreed to go to Holmes County to face felony burglary and kidnapping charges in connection with an Amish hair and beard cutting incident.
Levi Miller, 53, and brothers Lester and Johnny Mullet, were questioned by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. at length about whether they wanted an attorney appointed for a formal extradition hearing. Bruzzese told the Amish men an extradition hearing isn't to prove innocence or guilt, but rather to determine if they are the persons sought by the Holmes County Sheriff's Office.
The Mullet brothers told Bruzzese they were expecting their father, Sam Mullet, the bishop of the Bergholz Amish community, to be at the hearing to assist them. Bruzzese said unless their father was an attorney, he couldn't provide assistance.
"If you want an attorney, we'll appoint you an attorney," Bruzzese said.
Holmes County has five days to pick up the Amish men. Bruzzese set their bond at $250,000.
