Massage makes for happier, healthier, calmer babies Billings Gazette
Soothing massages aren't just for work-weary, stressed-out adults anymore.
Move over Mom and Dad. Make way for Baby.
Hundreds of local parents are getting their infants massages — just for the health of it.
Premature infants who receive massage generally recover faster from health problems, according to "Massage Today" magazine. This is because infant massage can reduce pain in premature babies, decrease stress levels and help them heal faster. It can also help underweight infants gain weight faster by speeding up their gut mobility and making them hungrier.
Research also shows that babies who receive massages sleep better, have a stronger immune system, have fewer digestive problems and are less likely to get sick.
So, once a month, a quiet, after-hours suite of rooms at St. Vincent Healthcare serves as a massage parlor for as many as eight infants who come to get their tummies rubbed, their legs stretched and their muscles toned. It's probably the only one-hour massage session in town where feeding, diapering and crying are welcome.

What's the best massage technique to remove a knot ?
the knot is located under the left shoulder near the scapula. When massaged it makes this clicking sound and constantly aches. Been going on for two weeks and resulted from carrying heavy bags a long distance
Direct work on the area with pressure and friction up to your pain tolerance will be helpful. Find a corner of a wall or door frame to lean against. Bring your left arm across the front of your body toward the right shoulder; then with your right hand, grab somewhere around the upper arm/elbow of the left arm and assist the movement further to stretch the upper left part of your back. Once you have your shoulder-blade in this "open" and stretched position [this should help expose the tension underneath the shoulder blade], begin to lean against the corner of the wall/door frame to find the spot. Hold the pressure until the initial pain begins to fade (10 seconds - 2 minutes), then repeat as many times as necessary to give attention to all the spots. You will also want to consider the anterior (front) muscles of the shoulder girdle on the left side. Spend some time stretching (lengthening) the pectoralis muscles, the anterior deltoid and even the biceps. This may help reduce the overall amount of constant stress being put on the muscles of the upper back. As a longer term solution, begin doing resistance or stregthening exercises for the muscles in the upper back (pulling shoulder blades together, reverse flys, rowing, etc) and continue stretching the front of the shoulder(s). Also, find a good deep tissue massage therapist. I can only hope this helps...
Hope this helps,
Good Luck!
How to learn stomach massage technique?
My boyfriend want me to do it to him.
It depends what he wants the massage for.
As a general massage, just be sure to use slow, long strokes with the whole hand, fingers together with light pressure and rub in a clockwise fashion. It might be easier to think of it like this.. start at the bottom left corner of the abs and rub upwards, then rub from left side of the body to their right, then rub down, then from the right to the left and back up. It's sort of like rubbing in a big box, always moving clockwise.
After a few of these longer strokes, you can put your four fingers on this same box like track, and rub gently with your fingertips in small clockwise circles all the way around the box. After this, you can go back to the longer strokes.
Let me know if you have any questions, it can be a bit confusing to try to explain massage techniques here.

does natural herb and massage technique really increase bust size?
is there anything that does increase bust size naturally? do they really work or is it just scam? I'm 18 and flat chested and really want to grow some breasts!
Love your body for the way it is, until that happens - you'll never be happy with yourself. First it will be your breast, then your nose, then your eyes, lips, and butt.
Face it - we all know our own flaws, yet the person who loves us sees these and STILL finds us as beautiful as we want to be.
Anyone ever heard of rocking massage technique?
OK, I got this massage the other day, and at the end, the therapist did something he called "rocking". I'll have to say, it was very "stimulating". Anyone ever heard of this? Is my reaction normal? Or am I just an undersexed 40 year old chick?
In response, of course he stayed within the proper "boundries". He's a professional. My question really should have been is in normal to become "excited" when this technique is used.
Rocking is a real massage technique and is good for increasing curculation and promoting relaxation.
Your reaction may be due to the feeling of being nurtured and supported, as you were when in the womb. Rocking brings us back to a place when we felt loved and supported (the womb) and people often associate this feeling with sexual excitement.
Your reaction is very normal. It is not bad or wrong to get excited.

HEAD MASSAGE technique to deal with Head-ache?
I have a lot of problems I am dealing with best as I can,
caused by other "people" & I therefore suffer a lot of tension headaches.
Rather than live on Nurofen, is there a technique I can use myself to massage my head which will relieve the tension?
Sorry to hear you are dealing with these headaches, I went through them myself. As far as a head massage, I do whatever feels best, however the base of the neck, just below the hairline and your temples are also main focus points. If I were you and you have health insurance, I would seek the advice of a Neurologist - i got these marcaine injections and felt so much better afterwards. Also counseling, it's a place to vent to a "stranger" and you'll feel better afterwards. I'm not one for meds but these headaches are sometimes more painful than migraines and something that shouldn't be ignored. Also, as someone else mentioned Yoga is great for this...there is a form of Yoga called Bikram, look it up online, it sounds crazy (cause your in a room about 105 degrees) but it helps so much. Hope you feel better soon.
1.Cup forehead in hands once more and press in the middle of the forehead at hairline.Continue pressing upward to the crown of the head.
2.Supporting the head in the hands and with fingers at the base of the skull, massage the entire scalp.
3.Draw fingers lightly through the hair several times, and off at the crown.
Yoga and deep breathing techniques.
We have plenty of something that is free and many of us are not using. That is ------ Air. Yes, air. It does wonders.
OK, sit up. Hold one nostril, count to about 10 and inhale right up until your lungs are filled. Inhale a bit more even though it is full. Hold for the count of 5. Now, release the nostril and breathe through the other. Repeat 3 times.
Hold the other nostril, same procedure as above. Repeat 3 times.
For this exercise, there should not be any noise - choose a place and time when you hear nothing. Lie on your back, absolutely still. Your hands on your side.
Now imagine your tension is leaving your body from your head - s l o w l y - down to your toes. Your tension is leaving from you toes.
Now do this 3 times.
Just do it, NOW. It is Free....!!!
You can thank me later, through this forum.
Drink Water - running a body that is low on water is like running a car that is low on oil - things don't work as well and can cause problems.
Take a couple of swigs of molasses it contains magnesium and potassium hat are needed to regulate things in the body.
Pick up a book called The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Does anyone know of a massage technique that aids weight loss?
This is usually done with a wooden rolling pin and afterwards, steam bath.Anyone had it done before? anyone knows where it can be done in the uk? Had it done years ago in Africa by a chinese woman, it was very effective and i lost all the excess weight within 4 weeks. Pls do not tell me to diet or work out as i go to the gym regularly and i eat healthily i just have a few problem areas i need help with (i'm 11 stones and a mother of two young children used to be 9 stone)
it 's absolutlely excellent for toning every wobbly bits only met a few people who's had it done been looking for it since relocated to the uk. It's actually popular in Asia.
Thanks everyone for your anwers, Pete W for your wisdom, Katie6170 for the website, it's exactly the same procedure only more sophisticated, athina and JohnM, will let you know when i've got news!
As a Massage Therapist, I haven't heard of that technique in the U.S. But there is a Machine called the Gx-99 that may be a modern version of the rolling pin. It is supposed to help with weight loss among other things.
