Can a NC licensed massage therapist work a second job as a cocktail waitress without jeopardizing her license?
I want to make some extra money as a cocktail waitress a few nights a week. I heard that doing so many put my massage license in jeopardy. Is there any truth to this?
Certainly. The only problem you might encounter in doing this is practicing message therapy while actually working as a cocktail waitress.
In other words, I would imagine a cocktail waitress would get a lot of opportunities to provide a few "deep muscle" massages while on the job... If you get my drift?
That would probably be illegal.
.
She becomes a taster of the products she serves to the customer
.
Not many people want to be near naked with a person for a massage
that can not see the eye chart on the wall as it was meant to be seen
.
Because there is no telling what that person might grab hold of to give a work out with their fingers on
.
A little humor here of course
All in fun
You are not in jeopardy of loosing your license to be a masseur
Being a waitress is not a problem, if you are working at a sexually oriented business, like a strip club, then you might have a problem.
How long does it take to become a licensed Massage Therapist?
I'm interested in going to school to become a Massage Therapist (in the US). Is it a two year or a four year program?
In Indiana it is less than a year for school to become a licensed Massage Therapist. Of course, quite a bit depends upon your state's requirements for schooling, but I don't know of any that is required for 2 or 4 years.
check out these sites:

How much does it cost to complete the training to become a Licensed Massage Therapist?
Is there anyone who went to Everest College or any College to train and become a Massage therapist? If so, can you tell me how much it will cost for the 9 months there? With or without financial Aid? Also, how much will we pay a month for the course? Thanks!
I recently completed a massage therapy program at an accredited college in Illinois at no cost to me (100% state/federal financial aid). However, without aid, your tuition, fees, and equipment can cost well into the thousands.
Financial aid is awarded by the institution, so only your school's financial aid office can give you an answer. The good news is that if you do not qualify for state/federal financial aid, there may be other options, such as regular payments through your school and private student loans (through a bank/lender).
A quick call to your school's financial aid adviser should clear up specific questions. Then, s/he should help you get started on the paperwork necessary to determine the exact amount you'll need to pay out of pocket, if any. Best of luck!
Is it OK or out of bounds to ask a legit licensed massage therapist for a undraped glute massage?
I go a certain massage therapist on a fairly regular basis (leaving nice gratuities) I enjoy this women's massages because she uses towel draping instead of sheet draping. While she was moving around the towel I asked "Can you do it without the towel"? She said "you don't want the towel"? I said "right". She proceeded by removing the towel (leaving me completley undraped for brief time) but soon replaced it by a smaller wash cloth type towel.
I think it is OK. The towel/drape is for you not her. She may be uncomfortable with it and wondering your reasoning behind it. I think if you explain why you want undraped then she may be more comfortable. Ultimately it is her license that she has to protect though.
What do I need to do to be able to work as a licensed massage therapist (U.K.)?
I have nearly finished my first year in an Osteopathy degree and even though I fully intend to complete the course and qualify as an osteopath ina few years time, at the moment I would like to work as a massage therapist to earn some money. What do I need to do in order to work as a massuse legally? Do I need yet another qualification?
In the UK, I'm pretty sure osteopathy is the only alternative treatment which requires a license. So no, you don't need any qualifications to work as a masseuse in the UK.
Is it difficult to find work as a licensed massage therapist if you dont work in a spa/salon/hotel?
Also, what are some great ways to promote your massage therapy business?
One of my friends freelances and does quite well for herself. Quite well is a relative term, of course. She does better than most massage therapists when she actively works.
Another friend's mom, a retired nurse, is a massage therapy practitioner and works between her client's homes and a Chiropractor's office. In some cases the Chiropractor is able to get paid by the insurance companies and in some cases they are not and the client pays out of pocket and she gets a cut of the monies. The chiropractor gave her a room but many will rent a room to a massage therapist and a percentage of the gross income.
Do you need a high school diploma to become a licensed massage therapist?
I don't have a high school diploma or GED, and I live in the state of California. Am I still able to get a license for massage therapy with out it?
Yes..To go to school, just like College, You will need your HS. Diploma or GED..BUT, In some states, I don't know if this is for California, Because it's for a few states, You can take a test, and enter(if you get a certain score.) without one...Like I said, I don't know if California does this or not.
What are the requirements to be a licensed massage therapist in Delaware?
I want to know what fees are associated with getting your license in Delaware. Both to practice and to start a small buisiness?
Thanks!!
Contact the state offices and find out the requirements, licensing, board qualification, etc. It is pretty loose in Ca., but the requirements vary from state to state.
what is the Hourly salary of a licensed massage therapist?
I live in Cartersville, Ga and i heard that lmt get 60 dollars an hour for a client. I did math and working 30 hours a week (avg 6 people a day for 5 days) you would make around 86,000 dollars a year or for 25 hours a week 72,000 dollars. Is this true?
Question is.....can you give 6 or even 5 massages a day?
Can you round up enough appointments to even get 20 massages a week?
What's your overhead==rent, insurance, adverstising, supplies, lien service, license fees, utilities===average out per massage?
Yes $60 per hour of massage income, figure $1000-$1300 a month in overhead(minimum) plus some capital costs such as a good table $600-$3400.
Don't forget: when working for yourself you pay double the social security of an employed person, plus send in you restimated income taxes each quarter. You also get to pay your own health insurance and should you take a vacation (or get sick), there's no income coming in, but you're still paying out your overhead.
Yes, it's possible to pull in $72k income for the year, but what you put into your own pocket is much less.
How many massages a day can a Licensed Massage Therapist give before they are exhausted?
I'm about to open a full service barber shop. (I am a barber.) and have a room set up for LMTS but I am not sure how many LMTS I will need.
My guess is 6 massages a day, working 6 hour shifts 4 or 5 days a week would be a nice work load.
Can LMTs put in a ful 40s without getting burnt out? Thanks for your input.
There are very few massage therapists that can do 40 massages a week. I have been a massage therapist for 6 years and I can only handle 15-20 per week, and this is true for most therapists. However, if you add spa treatments to your menu of services, such as a salt scrub, parraffin, detox foot bath, body wraps, etc., these are really easy to do and then the therapists could work more hours. Many of them can be done without a shower. Also, if they do energy work in addition to massage, this is easy and then they could also do more. Here is an article about doing simple spa treatments, http://www.alternativehealthbusiness.com/spa-supplies.html. Hope this helps.
