Be Medical Spa closed; $1 million mortgage foreclosure sale Dec. 8 Grand Haven Tribune
A downtown Grand Haven medical spa has been suddenly closed under a mortgage foreclosure.
Macatawa Bank says the owners of Be Medical Spa & Salon, 14 S. Second St., owe just over $1 million on a mortgage taken out in June 2008.
The business was closed at the end of the business day on Nov. 4.
Two other small businesses on the first floor of the old Grand Haven Armory building, which were renting from the spa owners, were still open for business on Friday. Residential condominiums on the second floor of the Armory are privately owned.
Dr. Peter Kamhout; his brother, C.W. Paul Kamhout of Chicago; and Peter Kamhout’s wife-to-be, Terri Zomerlei, bought the cavernous, 21,000-square-foot Armory from Antioch Christian Church in November 2003. The price was not disclosed.
Zomerlei said at the time they spent $1.4 million to renovate the facility. They opened the building’s main business, Be Medical Spa & Salon — which combined beauty services with medical procedures — in December 2004.

Anyone had liposuction in a medical spa that left them disfigured?
I am a plastic surgeon and am interested in stories of those people whom had liposuction in a medical spa, particularly when the person performing the procedure is not a physician. I find this extremely dangerous and I am trying to get the general public's perception of this.
Are non-physicians really performing liposuction procedures in spas? That's shocking.
Can a Chiropractor be a medical director to oversee a Medical spa in the state of Missouri?
I am wanting to expand my Day spa to add laser treatments and wanted to add a Medical Director to have some stability.
I am a Doctor of Chiropractic and I believe that a Chiropractic Doctor cannot serve as a medical director for your facility. I am not totally sure about this but I think that it would be a conflict of interest. Doctors of Chiropractic's scope of practice includes all procedures, but not involve the use of prescription drugs or surgery, although some states in the west allow minor surgical procedures such as sutures and minor emergency. It just depends on what procedures and how invasive the treatments being rendered in your facility. I am also leaning towards a chiropractor not being able to serve as a medical director because I also run emergency medical services here in my city and the medical director of my service as well as others services must be MD's or DO's. I would check the Miss. Board of Chiropractic Examiners and see what they say, this was an interesting question and I hope that I helped you out in some way.

Ever had liposuction or injections in a medical spa by someone other that a doctor?
Tell me your story. I am a plastic surgeon in Utah trying to find out how common this is, and where. I have seen patients whom have had problems associated with this.
Let me clarify. I am not looking for a plastic surgeon. I find some of the practices going on in medical spas with poorly trained individuals doing operative procedures. I am looking for people whom have had such an experience.

whats the difference between a medical spa and a regular spa?

They can be very similar- Medi-spas, however, claim that all of their services can heal or improve medical conditions like pain or skin breakouts or offer "detoxing" facials, etc.. Day spas are more for pampering- though a facial will improve your skin's APPEARANCE, they do not claim that it will remove or heal anything.
Here is a quick comparison- a Day spa will offer "relaxing massages" but a medi spa will say that their massage will relieve your back pain.
Can i write off a pool/spa for medical reasons?
I have a very bad back, I get treatments offen. My doctor told me that water aerobics is very good. I was told that if I get a prescription from my doctor that i can write off the cost of a pool/spa for medical reason? Is this true ? If so, what all do i need to do?
You basically need a prescription from your doctor verifying this is the case. And you may want to check with a tax accountant on the best way to proceed before you spend the money.
But personally, if a pool/spa relieved back pain for me I would buy it anyway and if I got a tax break later, so much the better.
What's the difference between going to a medical spa for a chemical peel vs. a dermatologist's office?
You won't smell any herbal oils burning at the docs, they won't have mood music, insurance will not cover at spa, lady at spa cannot write a prescription, no cute girls at Doc office. I could go back and forth all day.
