Microdermabrasion for dark spots on legs, scars Jamaica Observer
MICODERMABRASION is the use of a mechanical medium to exfoliate (remove) the top layer of dead cells from the epidermis. It is a non-invasive procedure. It does not cause cancer or affect any part of the body besides the skin. The instrument used in my practice uses a diamond tip which is safer and the most modern form of the equipment.
Microdermabrasion is used to treat the dark spots on the face from acne and the dark spots on the legs from mosquito bites. It treats sun damage; uneven, granular skin; blackheads; fine lines; open pores; scars, especially acne scars; minor surgical scars; stretch marks; dull, lifeless skin; and melasma.
Your skin is made up of two layers — an outer epidermis and an inner dermis. The epidermis is the layer closest to the outside world. It is made up of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells which are in the process of maturing. This top-most layer is called the stratenum corneum and it acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower layers of the skin. It keeps all but the smallest particles from penetrating the skin. All the action in microdermabrasion takes place at the level of the stratenum corneum.

How often to use Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion Treatment?
I am not sure how often to use the OLAY Regenerist Microdermabrasion Treatment. It is the product with the microdermabrasion treatment w/derma-crystals that you apply then use the peel activator serum w/lactic acid on top of that for 1 minute. Thanks.
everyday when you wake-up
Will one microdermabrasion treatment do anything?
I have been offered a free microdermabrasion treatment, but don't know whether I should take it. I'm sure they'll just try to talk me into multiple treatments—will one treatment really make a difference for treating mild acne scars, or should I not even bother?
What exactly is a microdermabrasion treatment?
Im 20, and I have this coupon for a skin care place for a free 15 minute microdermabrasion.. what exactly does the microderm. do?
Microdermabrasion (often referred to as Microderm) is a cosmetic procedure popular in day spas, doctors' practices, and medical spas in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion. Different methods include mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals, fine organic particles, or a roughened surface. Particles are removed off through the wand/handpiece through which the abrasive particles come [1] The term dermabrasion itself refers to the more severe medical procedure carried out under general or light anesthesia.
Microdermabrasion is used to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. The procedure is not very painful and requires no anaesthetic. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars. There is very little, if any, evidence that microdermabrasion stimulates collagen formation. Microdermabrasion can also be used for treatment of acne, but must be repeated periodically to be effective. Microdermabrasion should not be used on patients who have taken the medication Accutane (Isotretinion) in the previous twelve months.
In the past, microdermabrasion was carried out using abrasive crystals. However, in the last decade, it has become more common to use a wand with a roughened surface. This procedure requires no medical oversight and is commonly used in conjunction with facial spa treatments. These days there are a multiplicity of machines available for microdermabrasion.
The growth of the microdermabrasion treatment industry has led to innovations and there are currently a few different microdermabrasion systems available. In terms of professional microdermabrasion systems there are two choices:
1. Crystal microdermabrasion Crystal microdermabrasion systems are the traditional treatment of choice and rely on tiny crystals that are blasted onto the skin to perform the exfoliating process. Although the crystal microdermabrasion system is still widely used, the introduction of alternatives has led to a trend away from this treatment system.
2. Diamond microdermabrasion Diamond microdermabrasion systems operate without the need for crystals. The exfoliation process occurs when a diamond tipped head makes contact with the skin and abrades against it. In both crystals and diamond microdermabrasion systems the dead skin cells are sucked away from the face.
3. Home Microdermabrasion Home microdermabrasion systems are an increasingly popular alternative to professional treatments. These are cheap and very easy to perform, and although not as powerful as professional systems, can produce good results over time. There is a great deal of competition in the home microdermabrasion systems market with most of the big cosmetics and skin care brands launching their own home systems.
Microdermabrasion is a procedure where tiny particles "sand" or "polish" the skin and gradually remove scarred or discolored epidermal tissue. When you use a home microdermbrasion system the surface skin cell turnover will be enhanced and the skin will be visibly fresher. Home microdermabrasion creams with active ingredients, are focused on skin renewal and accelerate rebuilding of healthy collagen skin cells after microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing or harsh peels. For depressed scars, such as pitted acne scars, subcision with needles is often used by estheticians to break up the deeply buried scar tissue, and a home microdermabrision system then speeds up new healthy skin remodeling: the orderly process of laying out new collagen and elastin fibers.
Is it ok to have a Microdermabrasion treatment and a Facial back-to-back?
On the same day, and preferably one after the other? Or is that not a good idea?
The facial would have to be really, really light, whether you do it before or after. Basically, it's not worth it.
My 21 yrs old sister has moderate acne scar could a microdermabrasion treatment done by a dermatologist help?
This might help to some degree. Seeing a dermatologist in general might help as they can recommend pharmasutical strength formulations that might be useful for her. Microdermabrasion helps to remove dead cell layers and refine the skin's surface, this often helps with acne as it cleans out the pores extensively. Scars are very hard to remove. The skin in the area is tougher than the rest of your skin and needs to be softened. Some people find Vitamin E to be helpful. You can buy Vit. E oil in the drug store, or simply get a bottle of Vit. E capsules at a vitamin shop and use those as single serve treatments.
They have some clinical products that are known to help some people with bad scars, your dermatologist would be the best person to discuss these with. Sometimes in the cases of bad acne scarring, a chemical peel is a good way to go as it forces the skin to regenerate a new layer. See what the doctor says and tell her to keep her expectations realistic. It is extremely unfortunate to have acne scars and they are especially upsetting for women.
I wish you both the best of luck!!!
How much does a treatment of microdermabrasion run?
about one or two treatment I the skin on my face is darker and not as smooth as the rest of the skin on my body I think its sun damage I'm drinking a lot of water now and eating fruits as veggies lots and I see a difference but the skin on my face is still dark patche and rough.
Compared to other non-surgical procedures, micro dermabrasion is not so expensive. If you choose a beauty salon, the price of a single micro derma abrasion treatment varies between $75 and $200. In a medical facility, a single microdermabrasion session for the whole face costs somewhere between 100 and 300$, not including the initial consultation (which may cost an additional 150$). Considering the fact that for optimum results you need an average of 9 treatments and another 4 maintenance sessions, your microdermabrasion treatment in a beauty salon will cost around 1,600$ per year.
At-home skin abrasion kits cost between $15 and $200, depending on their content and brand.

Do I need to get any prep work done before microdermabrasion or can I just get the treatment anytime?
I like the idea that there is no downtime with microdermabrasion unlike chemical peels and I want to get rid of my acne scars. Can I just walk into a microdermabrasion office and get the treatment or do I need like.. preparation, like do I need to apply some special chemical to my face 48 hours before treatment or something
You don't need any preparation. All you need to do is make the appointment, and go. I had that done on my entire back about 5 years ago, and I only needed 8 treatments. My back is beautiful now! It was really worth it for me. I hope it works well for you!

can anybody tell me what exactly does a microdermabrasion treatment do?
and does it work and will i see results soon
cause im desperate and have been think of getting one
it is basically like sandpaper for your face. The underlying idea behind it is that the removal of dead or loose skin cells will prevent the clogging of pores, thus acne, as well as brightening complexion and reducing oiliness.
does any 1 know if Microdermabrasion or laser treatment is effective for chickenpox dents???
hi, i got 2 dents on my face after chickenpox and there isnt much i can do about it, so if any one of you know about Microdermabrasion or laser treatment and ow much it costs if u got any idea.
Thanks for your time.
Microdermabrasion can help to reduce the appearance of very superficial scars but if they are deeper scars than it will probably require laser treatments. The "latest and greatest" treatment for chicken pox scars or acne scars (they typically leave similar "ice pick" type scars) is fractional laser treatment. The most popular laser like this is the Fraxel from Reliant Technologies is generally regarded best. You should consult with a physician before seeking any treatments. Below I've included a link to some general pricing.
Are all microdermabrasion treatments the same?
I have been looking into microdermabrasion. I have received price quotes of $35 at a salon to $65 at a specialty skin center. Why such a big difference? Is the treatment the same no matter where you go? I would rather pay $35 if I can get the same results. Thanks!
No, they are not all the same. The ones you get in a dermatologists office are much stronger while ones at a salon or spa are much weaker. However, between one spa and another they are probably very similar. $35 is extremely cheap. Expect to pay about $100 per visit at a dermatologist.
