Tyler trial set for Dec. 6 Fort Dodge Messenger

Hillary Tyler's murder trial will begin Dec. 6 in Webster County.

The Oklahoma woman was charged with first-degree murder in the death of her newborn infant after the baby's body was found in a Fort Dodge motel last month.

Tyler, 31, of Mulhall, Okla., pleaded not guilty to the crime on Wednesday.

She was allegedly in Fort Dodge for temporary work on Sept. 20 when police officers were called to her room at the Super 8 motel, 3755 Fifth Ave. S., following a phone call from an employee. When authorities arrived, they found the body of a newborn baby. Police determined the child did not die from natural causes.

Tyler was arrested a short time later, and charged with first-degree murder on Sept. 22 after being held for undisclosed medical reasons.

Due to the renovations at the Webster County Law Enforcement Center, Tyler is being held in Boone County.

Her bond is set at $1 million.

First-degree murder is a Class A felony, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.

What is the biggest difference between a hotel and a motel?

By hotel I mean anything from really small to really big.
And by motel I mean something that doesn't rent rooms by the hour. (motel 6 or super 8 motel for example)

We're visiting California this summer and have most of our lodging figured out, but for a few days we still need to find something.

Preferably not too expensive, hence my question :)

Are motels always cheaper and less well maintained than hotels?
Are motels sleazy places one should avoid?

The answers to your last two questions are no and no. You cannot generalize about prices, degree of upkeep or cleanliness about motels and hotels. Some motels are very well maintained and clean while some hotels can be run down and sleazy.

You can generalize about the following though:

1. Most motels are older and not parts of a national chain. National chains (systems) do not name their lodging facilities "motels" any more simply, I gather, to avoid the misunderstanding such as raised in your questions.

2. Most motels are near a highway or a main road. However, this is to be taken with the understanding that what used to be a highway may have been replaced by a newer highway and is now just a road through town.

Since you sound like you may be from another country, I'd advise to make reservation with a national chain to assure a certain level of quality (Holiday Inn, La Quinta, Hilton, Sheraton, Marriott...). You can find reasonable rates through those chains as they have different levels of hotels but at least, you know in advance what you're going to get. Individually-owned hotels and motels can vary so widely in quality you can never be sure.

~~ Motel 6 doesn't rent rooms by the hour, it's overnight or longer.

~~ From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel
A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging, usually on a short-term basis.
Hotels often provide a number of additional guest services such as a restaurant, a swimming pool or childcare.
Hotels differ from motels in that most motels have drive-up, exterior entrances to the rooms, while hotels tend to have interior entrances to the rooms, which may increase guests' safety and present a more upmarket image.

~~ Being an Aussie I think of a Hotel as an establishment that sells beer (true, they have an internal staircase that leads up to rooms for short term accomodation).
I consider a Motel to be accommodation that you drive up to, your car handily parked just ouside the door.
Many of the national motel chains are located right next to a restaurant too.

~~ Nor are motels sleazy places best avoided, certainly not the national chains anyhow.
We did a seven week tour of the entire USA, staying 90% of the time at Motel 6, so be nice!
The rooms are cleaned daily, we never once had complaints about cleanliness or freshness of any linen items.
The odd occassion we stayed at a privately owned motel, some of those are best avoided!

~~ Unsure about the price comparison between hotels and motels, I wouldn't stay at a hotel.
Just do a search for Californian hotels/motels, you'll get thousands of hits.
Many sites have personal reviews, photos of the hotel/motel and the rooms. And you just make a reservation online.

Motel allows you to enter your room from the parking lot, with your car parked outside the door. It is usually single level.

A hotel has to be entered through the lobby. It is multilevel.

Motels do not have to be 'sleazy'. There are quite a few that are upscale. You can save money by avoiding chain run hotels/motels and staying at ones that are family run. The drawback is that there are fewer amenities and no overall quality control.

You can do a quick assessment of a property by visiting the tripadvisor site and see how customers have rated it compared to others in the vicinity.

Where to find a motel for overnight stay nearby the University of Sunshine coast?

Hi, I need to attend a test in USC (the university of Sunshine coast next month. Since I am living on the gold coast and have never been to sunshine coast, I need your help to find a motel to stay overnight. The motel should be close to the university campus and public transport. If anyone can help, please provide me with the name and detailed address of the motel. Thanks very much.

Try this one:
Fiesta Charreada Motel 07 5445 1874

I haven't been there and have no idea what it's like but it's only a couple of minutes away from the uni. and it looks OK for an overnight stay.

Hi, the uni is in Chancellor park and there is no motels in that suburb. Mooloolaba is the closest town to chancellor park (also called sippy downs).. theres a backpackers and a few motels on Brisbane road in mooloolaba and the bus to uni goes from right out the front and gets to uni in 10 mins. the name of the backpackers is Mooloolaba Backpackers, not sure of the motel names but type mooloolaba and Brisbane road into yahoo and it should give u the names. Good luck with ur test :)

Whats the difference between a hotel and a motel?

I know motels are only two stories and hotels are like 10 (minumum) stories, but is there any other differnces? And whys it called a motel?

Hotel has more items to make your stay better. Such services like cleaning service, valet, business centers, first class restaurants, clubs, shuttle buses to the airport, etc. The rooms are usually indoors. Hotels can have 3-10 floors, depends are the area

most Motels are just a room with usually a TV. A Motel was named because it was Motor (in older times, most were near a highway) hotel. Most are, as you state, two to three floors. The rooms tend to have outdoor enterances to the room

Also, I was told that in hotels you enter your room from inside and a motel you enter your room from the outside, Did I just make sense?

Hotels usually have indoor halways to the rooms----motels have exterior doors to the rooms..................

Hotels are more luxurious than motels.
The word motel is a combination of the words Motor Hotel, which became Motel. At first, to combat high hotel prices, someone invented a "drive-in hotel", with rooms on the ground floor, sometimes as high as 3 floors. Just like fast food, the basics, no service.
There is no minimum height for a property to be called a hotel, though.

motel is type of hotel in the form of a single building of connected rooms whose doors faced a parking lot and, in some circumstances, a common area; or a series of small cabins with common parking.

A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging, usually on a short-term basis. Hotels often provide a number of additional guest services such as a restaurant, a swimming pool or childcare. Some hotels have conference services and meeting rooms and encourage groups to hold conventions and meetings at their location.

Motels are n inconvenient locations if your not driving. They are unlikely to be near anything of interest other than a road.

All of the above answers are right, plus "motel" comes from motor - hotel, rather aptly named. Cars parked usually within sight / close proximity of the room. Access from the outside. Because they take up more space than hotels usually located outside major city centres and in cheaper areas. Good value. Do they have dining rooms? Can't remember.

The two main differences between hotels and motels are:
1. Motels are usually limited to 2 or 3 stories, where as hotels can be as tall as 30 stories or more... and
2. Most motels have exterior corridors, whereas most hotels have interior corridors.
Other noticeable differences are that motels usually aren't as nice as hotels, and motels are usually cheaper that hotels.

Please look at this and answer my questions everybody!

(Sorry to everyone who tried this link when it didn't work... it should work now.)

What is the difference between a motel and a hotel?

Also, have you ever been in a dirty motel or hotel?

Typically, yes, a hotel has indoor corridors to get to the guest rooms and a motel has guest doors that open to the outside. The word "motel" is actually a shorter form of two words "motor hotel" and the concept was that one could "motor" or drive right up to the door of their room. In recent years many new lodging establishments have begun to build the indoor corridors because of security issues and even franchises once considered to be motels no longer build properties with exterior guest room doors. It may explain why so many of them use the word "inn" in their name rather than hotel or motel - for example some of the older Hampton Inn properties have outdoor corridors but the franchise no longer allows them to be built that way. A name like Hampton Inn does not give you any indications whether it has indoor corridors or not. The designation of hotel and motel any more doesn't really tell you that either since many people no longer know that motel used to mean "motor hotel" - for most people now the difference is that hotels (but not always) cost more. There are reasons for that too by the way. It costs more to furnish and decorate and heat and cool the interior hallways in a hotel than to put exterior walkways on a motel and typically hotels have larger lobbies and breakfast areas and need more staff to operate and provides more amenities like a full hot breakfast instead of coffee, juice, and donuts or indoor pools in many cases. Some think that hotels are classier than motels and while that is true in many cases, I have personally stayed in some beautiful motels around the country that have offered as many amenities as any hotel I have had the privilege of managing.

Hope this helps clear it up.

a motel usually just offers you a room, maybe a pool. a hotel offers rooms, restaurants, bars, and pools, workout centers, etc. and yes I have had to stay at some nasty motels and hotels.

Hotels usually have a central lobby and hallways. Motels usually have private entries. I'm sure there are other differences, too.

Yes, I have been in dirty hotels. I've never stayed at a motel.

Where in Las Vegas would be a good place to find a motel with weekly rates?

I'm planning on moving to Las Vegas from Southern California. I hear that there are motels downtown that offer weekly and monthly rates. How much should I plan on spending? I would want to stay in a motel to find a job and find an apartment.

If I stay in a motel for a month and I realize that Las Vegas is not my cup of tea I can move back to Southern California.

Currently I'm a 27 year old unemployed male.

stay AWAY from downtown.

I live on south las vegas blvd (south strip) the nice area... there is a http://www.budgetsuites.com/ that offers weekly rates and it is nicely located by stores (cvs pharmacy, chilis 'i think', food for less and the silverton 'bass pro shop' casino is half a mile away) and freeways.

there is a bus stop right in front and no homeless people hanging out like in the downtown area

the city center is currently hiring for the end of this year and that is only a couple of miles fro here

http://www.citycentercareers.com/default2.aspx

The Budget Suites at 4300 W Tropicana is a nice place in a good location..
http://www.budgetsuites.com
IMO, their rates are very reasonable.

~Jack~

I've heard Budget Suites has decent rates of about $200 a week, I've never stayed there before.

Also, I believe there's a place called Extended Stay Suites and Marriott has an extension hotel that offers weekly rates.

dont stay at budget suites unless you plan on getting robbed or getting crackwhores to blow you. If you HAVE to do that, do Emerald Suites on the south strip. Ugh. Ps - there are no jobs here... there are 21,000 unemployred casino and construction workers tho

There are loads of motels and hotels that offer weekly and monthly rates. Some are near the strip. Budget suites is one of the more upscale chains that do this.
It is near depression levels here. The Plaza Casino and hotel (attached to the bus station) has rooms for very little.

Budget Suites is a chain of motels that offer weekly rates. There are several locations in Vegas and many of them are just a short distance from the Las Vegas strip. They also offer monthly rates.

why a motel? You can stay at a cool casino for almost nothing if you use one of those vacation packages like they give out at timeshares. You can find them at this website & you don't even have to sit thru a timeshare pitch - you just get the voucher! They have them for vegas & other places too - good luck! www.corporatetravelgifts.com

What is the cheapest motel on the Las Vegas strip that has a swimming pool?

What is the cheapest motel on the Las Vegas strip that has a swimming pool? I've been there before and stayed at the cheapest motel possible. This time I want to get some exercise so I think I'll spend a little extra for a motel with a swimming pool. I definitely want a motel on the strip or a short (half hour) walking distance from the strip.

Imperial Palace is another hotel that has a pool, right between Harahs and The Flamingo.

Price compares with Circus Circus and the Stratosphere usually has just a little better price depending on the dates, although it is on the far north side of the strip.

Imperial Palace has a nice location in center strip.

Good luck and have fun

How can you decontaminate a mattress in a motel or hotel for bed bugs, scabies etc?

What legal action or recourse do you have if you stay at a motel and the managers know the mattresses are infested with bedbugs, etc and you are severely bitten?

I'm not a lawyer and I don't know the exact legal recourse (I do think you might have to prove the managers had prior knowledge), but I know you can file complaints. I would file one with the board of health in that state and locality (talk to everybody you can), and I would also file with the Better Business Bureau. You won't necessarily receive any restitution ($) for your pain and trouble, but it will hopefully force the hotel to clean up their act. At least it will bring them negative publicity. Also, please do an online review so that people like myself see these comments when they do a google search and don't book a room at this nasty place!

To know more about

bed bugs

Please feel free to visit http://learnmoreon.com/bedbugs/

Green G

there have been a few lawsuits based on landlords not treating bedbugs when they know there is a problem and unless the tenant can prove that they did not bring the bugs with them then I think they have all lost.

As for hotel chains, I think it would depend on how deep the pockets were of the chain and the effect of negative publicty on them

I will tell you that when our family travels, we check the beds for bugs and even if we do not see any, we spray them down quite well with a product called BedBug Termnator from Kleen-Fee which we buy online from them.

This is a chemical free product so we know we are doing no harm to the mattress or the environment when we do this and the product kills bugs on contact.

Even if we did not need to spray, it gives us a little more peace of mind. We also spray down our luggage on the way out as well and when we get home. An ounce of prevention...

Good luck.

I think that proving the owner "knew" about it would be near impossible and that is exactly what you would have to do in order to win. Even then, i don't think that the owner would be liable, if that were the case there wouldn't be many hotels in the US for very long.

I would bet a thousand Baht that you can't do anything.

What is the difference between a hotel and a motel?

Is there like a office that goes around telling them what it is? What would a motel have to do to become a hotel?

Hotel: Go into a building, then into your room. Generally nicer, more expensive.

Motel: Your room's door goes right out into the parking lot. Rooms are usually old, outdated. Cheaper, easier to get a room in the middle of the night.

get bigger

hotels are big motels

I think motels have their room doors facing out, like towards a parking lot, and a hotel has a lobby with rooms accessible from the inside of the building.

hotels are usually all in one big building (everything is inside) while motels everything is outside. motels are usually cheaper because of this

I think a Motel you can rent it monthly or weekly basics, plus they have kitchens too...and Hotel it's nightly stays..

motels are generally smaller and you can access your rooms through the outside, while hotels are generally bigger and you have to go into the facility to get to your room. For example If you've ever seen a motel 6 or a super 8 motel they are like huge apartment buildings with doors all along the outside, as opposed to motels where you see windows and you have to go through a main enterance to get to your room!

The answer is in the word motel which stands for motor hotel. Generally you get to them by car, most of the time you find them right next to the freeways, Motel 6, Motel 8, etc

How can an adult reserve a motel room without a credit card ?

I need to make motel reservation for few days. Does not own a credit card. Any ideas how to go about it. Are you aware of any motels that will make a reservation with wire transfer ?

Thank you

Buy a throw away credit card at your local CVS ... you can get Visa or Mastercard in amounts of $25, $50, $100 ... use that to hold the room

How much does it cost to live in a motel?

I am thinking to live in a motel for long term if it's cheaper than just rent a apartment myself in Florida.

Have anyone ever lived in motel before?
Is week or monthly rate different than rate per nights?

I know it's depend on a motel but I just want to know in general.

It is crazy expensive. i have grew up in a motel.
lets see, a room average is about 50 bucks a night. thats about 350 a week and about 1400 bucks a month... thats not including all your other expenses like food and stuff. it is so much cheaper to get an apartment. plus, motels are so loud and you never have peace and quiet. then when you are ready to get out of a motel and get your own place, it is very hard to save up the money due to you paying every night for a room.. so you will never get out.. i know from experience... i think your better off with a house or apartment.. good luck
