Do it yourself: Paint for big savings Baltimore Sun

When money is tight and a room needs a facelift, there's no easier, cheaper or faster fix-up than a coat of paint. Paint brightens dull walls and creates a fresh, new feeling in a room and a uniform backdrop for furnishings. For a beginning DIYer, painting is goof-proof because the paint and equipment are relatively inexpensive and you learn the skills on the job. It's no surprise, then, that painting is the most popular DIY project.

A contractor will charge $764 to prepare and paint one coat of latex paint on the ceiling, walls and woodwork of a 15- by 20-foot room (900 square feet of total area) with two windows and two doors. A handy homeowner can buy the paint and equipment for $150 and do the job himself, saving 80 percent.

To get the most professional-looking results, plan to spend more time preparing the surfaces than actually applying the paint. Fill any nail holes or nicks in the walls with a wallboard repair compound and sand them smooth. Do the same to any damaged

Nail repair?

I recently removed my false nails very badly and now my real ones are completely destroyed. The top of the nails are broken and torn. Please can someone tell me how i can repair them?

i have gone thru this a few times myself I almost hate to have My nails done because the true nail gets ruined. I get the sally Hansen nail hardener, The real nail gets filed down so badly. Time and nail hardener for the next couple of months is all I have found to help. jello may help them grow faster

how can i repair nail pops on my walls?

My painter just finished painting the whole house and didnt fix the nail pops! They look bad and I would like to try to repair them myself.

You can get a nail set, which is like a small punch. Use that to hammer the nail head below the surface of the wall.

Spackle the spot and touch up the paint.
Since the paint is new it should match if you have some left over paint or get some more exactly the same color.

cover the nail pop with a piece of wood and tap it back into placewith a hammer. The wood protects the wall from the hammer and from making any marks, which wouldn't be wanted on a newly painted wall.

Believe it or not, toothpaste. White kind.

You can take a nail set and drive back in. It's best to put a drywall screw beside the popped nail the take a putty knife a some drywall mud or spackle and recover. You will need to touch up the paint in these areas..
Might be best to wait till you repaint the room again.

You must use a hammer and hit the nail inplace so it grabs the drywall. If the nail is loose due to the fact that it did not hit the stud you can simply just pull it out , but i would find the stud and put in a screw or new sheetrock nail.
After you have either put in a new one or hit the old one so it grabs u then must fill the spot(should be the size of a hammer head) with spackle, let dry and shrink into place, sand lightly and do again, let that shrink into the space, lightlyh sand and do a third time. sand lightly again and repaint.
If you do anything else it will be seen and if you do not get the nail to grab the stud it willpop again I garauntee it and you will have to do it all over again. I recomend doing it right the first time although it will take some time u will never have to do it again.
aslo try to contact the painter(tell him u have more work to get him to your house) who did the job and make him do the right job when he comes back, if he does not comply file a complaint with your local BBB or if he has a license contact the issuing agaency and file with them

As a couple already mentioned; use a small punch set to drive the nail back in. If you use the hammer face or a board you may damage a larger area than what was needed. Just because there are nail pops does not mean it was a poor job the first time, boards warp, houses move, yes could have been a poor job but that's a tough one to say that.

what kinda glue for nail repair??

on of my tips for my nails fell off
what kinda glue
and where can i find it for home repair!!!!!???
thanks!!

Sure sounds like a fingernail problem but you are saying home repair???

You cannot glue together a broken house nail. It won't hold. You simply hammer in another nail.

If it's just for appearance, you might try epoxy.

Super-glu works fine, and the new gels are very easy to use. Simplest repair for cracked nails or broken tips. Just observe the cautions....I would not like you to glue your tip to both hands....

What is the best way to repair nail holes coming through my ceiling?

I just bought a new condo a couple of years ago and recently have found a couple of nail holes coming through my ceiling. This looks really tacky and I would love to fix them. Any ideas?

Either hammer the nail back up or just pull out if sticking out a lot. Get some drywall screws and drive in no more then two inches from popped nail. Use ceiling spackling and smoove out. Prime and repaint area. Also, check out the subject on:

Its called Caulk. You can find it at homedepot.

pull the nail out re-apply a screw and the Spackle and re-paint the ceiling

Yes go to your local hardware or home improvement or discount store buy a container of Spackle, dip your finger in it and fill in the hole.
When it dries is might shrink so you will have to fill it again.
It's doubtful you will need to paint it since it's up high. Also make sure you make it's as close to the texture or smoothness as possible.

Is there a way to repair a tear in your finger nail?

I really dont want to have to cut the whole nail this short wear the big tear is so is there anything that helps repair the nail so it'll mend?

Fingernails don't heal because they're dead tissue, like hair. You have to wait for it to grow out. If I were in your situation I might visit a nail salon and see if they can put a wrap on the nail so it doesn't snag. They might not do it but it's worth a shot.

IDK, I have had a split on one finger nail for probably 10 years. I have never been able to grow it out and start a perfect one. If it's just split and not missing, you might try some super glue? I just keep mine really short or it catches in things. Being a guy, that's easy.

yes, there is...go to your manicurist, and tell them you need a repair...show them where it is needed, and they should be able to take care of you...if you do a "drop-in" you might have to wait for a few minutes, until one of the nail technicians has a few minutes between appointments

There are some silk wraps you can buy in the drugstore and apply with nail glue. Apply it thinly and evenly, and then soak it in nail polish remover when the nail grows out and you want to remove it.

Nail repair or nail strengtheners which brands work the best?

O.P.I Nail Envy works really good...you can apply before or after nail polish. Apply everyday for 7 days then remove and start again.

"hard as nails". My nails are so logn and strong they get compliments all the time and people think they are fake when they get too long.

pretty much anything sally hansen works pretty good.

Nail Envy. I use it and my nails stay hard and are able to grow longer!

...'diamond strength" by sally hanson.
but even better than all those things,.?? vitamin e oil. ...rub on the nail twice a day,...you'll see the difference.

the FDA reports that anything that claims to "strengthen" or "lengthen" the nail doesn't work. Nothing can penetrate the nail bed. Any top coat you get will all work the same as it adds a second "skin" to your nail. That's it. Sorry, it's all a bunch of crap to get you to buy their junk.

"Ecrinal".

Sally...Henson? i think it is
its "sally" something

i have used sally hansen nail hardener for years, love it!all of the claims of gelatin, or painting on solutions that say will harden nails are not true-you have to do it from the inside, out!

I have a Paslode Impulse Nail gun needs repair/servicing around Plymouth/S'ash/ area need to find a shop?

need some help in finding a tool shop/retailer that can provide servicing and repair for Paslode nail guns used in the construction industry plymouth/cornwall/saltash area~many thanks

try hire station west opposite totem timber or any other hire shop , or there is a small shop in st beau on the hill right hand side if your driving down the hill

Although I do not live in the UK, I also have problems finding service places. I have found that, although it takes up valuable time, it is better to do the repair myself, or, and this takes up money, buy new.

Good luck

I used to bit my nails, managed to stop. Will the "living part under the nail" repair itself?

I don't know what the "living part under the nail is called! Because I bit my nails so much, this reced over time. Now that I've stopped, it's so far back from the tips of my fingers that it looks a bit funny (I think). Will it extend back to where it was naturally over time? What can I do to aid this? If all else fails, is there a procedure?

You're not alone .. I bit my nails 'til I was 20! It took quite a while, but they grew back, and, I mean ALL the way back to the tips.

My nails were bitten so far back that there was more finger showing than nail bed. It took over a year for the nail bed to extend so that it no longer looked weird. I would suggest that you try keeping your nails polished so you can't see where the nail bed stops and the finger begins, (that's assuming that your nails have begun to grow beyond the nail bed). If your nails are weak, get some Sally Hansen Teflon Nail Polish. It's as good as anything and less expensive than a lot of products on the market.

Hope this helps.

How do I repair appearing nail heads in my ceiling?

Have an artex celing in my bedroom. Three nail heads have suddenly appeared. Is this anything to worry about?

I hope its just the celing panel thats attached to the joist above being dislodged. Is the best thing to do to screw them back in and paint over?

Or is it indicative of something else.

House is 15 years old and the loft just has wooden celing joists. I have no major weight in the loft.

im sure its not the beams.just put a screw next to the popping nails. then pound the nails in and compound over them, sand and paint.ps when you do this you might notice a few more wanting to pop ,just do the same next to them.were you up in the attic lately, maybe someone or something stepped in between the beams instead of on them.

Is there nail repair for men who bite their nails? ?

I bite my nails constantly! I think the only way I could stop is if I could see them normal. I've tried the no-bite stuff with no luck. Is gel nails an option for a guy. Do gel nails look fake?

You could try gel or acrylic nails for a month or two and then have them removed/cut off. Have them put on short, just til the ends of fingertips- flush with longest fleshy part of your fingers. 1mm longer is still okay though.

If you didn't want to go the artificial nail route, try the acrylic or gel paste that hardens. They use it for fill on artifical nails as your nails grow. The paste alone will harden and you'll be unable to bite your nails. Even filing them will not be easy as it is quite hard when cured. The length won't change with the paste only application, but should stop the biting and let your nails grow. You can continue to get the fills as your nails grow and after a few months, have the fill removed at the salon - or don't get the fills and slowly the nails will grow and you can file the paste away slowly. Those are my 2 best suggestions.

3rd suggestion would be to get a mani-pedi (as you would for 1st 2 options as well), see how nice it looks, have nail treatment polish used - to strengthen nails with good top coat as well. You can use clear or a colored polish - sheer pinks and sheer beiges and sheer purples work well and are not "in your face" for a guy to wear. You can always use clear treatments though. I've found that when I've got nail problems like flaking, splitting, etc, that a sheer color between a base and top coat, helps cover the unsightly flaw. It's a bit edgy and may get you noticed - not in a bad way either. You'll never go wrong with a mani-pedi and clear nail treatments. You'll look and feel great and professional. Women like it too. If you don't believe me, just a few women you know about what they think of your nails now, and then get them done - any of above suggestions, and then ask the women again. Let me know how it goes.

Nail Care

There are many parts in the body that need constant maintenance like hair, skin, and nails and so on. But today, in the market, most of the products that are available are for hair care and skin care with very few products available for nail care other than nail polish (which, in all honesty, is just to make the nails look more stylish). From anti-dandruff to lice treatment shampoos, hair oils etc, the market is filled with hair care products. Similarly complexion creams, moisturizers and so on are also available in abundance in the market for skin care. But unlike hair, damages that are caused to the nails are not easily reparable. It takes close to about a month for a nail to grow back and within two to three weeks they start looking dirty and unclean, especially toenails. As a result we spend a lot of time daily maintaining our nails. In order to avoid this daily hassle store.hello-gorgeous.net/trind.html provides some excellent options.

store.hello-gorgeous.net/trind.html provides a wide range of natural products that are necessary for the beautiful maintenance of nails. All the products of trind natural nail repair like Trind Moisturizing Nail Balzam, Trind Natural Nail Repair 0.30oz etc are exceptionally good and are also extremely reasonable as far as price is concerned. They also provide excellent discounts for all their products making the products very affordable. In addition to this they also provide super fast shipping of goods making store.hello-gorgeous.net/trind.html, according to me, the best place to purchase nail care products.Â
