Two nurses launchlucrative head-lice treatment company | The Republic The Republic
In a little more than a year, Lisa Rudquist and Rachel Knutson have gone from grade-school moms with active nursing careers to fledgling entrepreneurs about to become players on the potentially lucrative national hair-care stage.
It's all because of head lice, nature's icky little curveball that knows no demographic bounds and considers everyone a potential victim.
After their own daughters were infested with the parasite early last year, they commiserated in the school parking lot about the lack of effective treatments. "Rachel, are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Rudquist asked Knutson.
The two nurses in the Twin Cities of Minnesota drew on their health care experience to start a business to help others recover from and avoid the dreaded nit.
They called their business Ladibugs.
Working with a chemist and a manufacturer of hair care supplies in Alabama, the two came up with a line of all-natural products that act as lice repellents.
They contracted with a Utah firm to use its proprietary "LouseBuster" treatment system that resembles a hair dryer and uses warm air to delouse the head and hair.
Natural Hair Care
Last week I took a natural hair care class at Whole Foods and wanted to share some products they discussed. I'm really loving the shampoo bar ...

How do you take care of natural hair?
I stopped getting perms months ago, but I need to know more about this whole natural hair care thing. Last night when I was putting some oil in my hair, I noticed that my roots were extremely thick, but my ends are thin. What's up with that? Are the permed ends growing out or something. I also have been using Mane and Tale, but I'm going to switch to Organic Olive Oil products. What do you use? How can I get my hair to grow long and thick?
Just so you know there is nothing organic about the organic olive oil products other than the word organic on the label. they use no certified organic products in their products and they can get away with this because cosmetics are not regulated by the USDA and thus the USDA organic program does not cover cosmetics. this means they can package nuclear waste and call it organic legally. You need to read the labels and look for the word organic in the ingredients and also make sure no parabens ( a known carcinogen) are being used
http://www.organicconsumers.org has a campaign to make organic cosmetics really organic. they also have a list of who makes for real organic soaps, shampoos, make-up, etc..
Mane and Tail is a horse shampoo but it is a terrific shampoo for human heads as well and is missing some nasty ingredients like parabens. Not organic but closer than a lot of products claiming to be organic.

Treat Worn Out Locks to This Deep-Conditioning Treatment
1. To prep the hair for treatment, shampoo and gently massage the scalp with exhilarating Rosemary Mint Herbal Shampoo (detangling formula). Rinse and repeat if needed.
2. Deep condition with a Hair Smoothie (for normal hair try Tui Hair Smoothie; for dry hair try Khoret Amen Hair Smoothie) and apply to hair from roots to ends. Leave in 15 minutes to one hour, depending on the level of damage. Rinse thoroughly. If you've got fine hair, shampoo again.
3. To replace essential oils, pour a small amount of Khoret Amen or Tui Leave-in Conditioner into the palms of your hand and massage into hair and scalp. Do not rinse out.
What are your Best Natural Hair Care Tips?
I really like using natural things for my skin and hair because I can do without all the chemicals. I just used olive oil and avacados as a leave-in conditioner and my hair is super shiny. Are there any other suggestions that you guys use? I asked here because the hair section does not get as many people as here.
Avacado Is Ultra great for hair! :) I went natural recently and I mainly use Delizioso Natural Shampoos on my hair. They have avacado, aloe juice and a whole other bunch of stuff which keeps my hair lookin ultra hot!

I am looking for an African-American Natural Hair Care Salon that cuts and styles near Langley AFB in Virginia?
I have had natural hair for four years but I cannot seem to get the Afro look. My hair may be too long. I am looking to cut my hair a little short with the curly look; to start all over. I have used texturizers in my hair and that does not seem to work. Please help if there is any advice.
Key, Try finding a salon employee or manager that can help. http://www.topratedhairsalons.com/Virginia-Hair-Salons.html
If they give a good recommendation, take a trip to that salon. Let the receptionist know that you are looking for a new salon and would like to observe some of the stylist. Do this because you may find a stylist at the salon that you'd prefer over the one recommend. The receptionist should not have a problem with this at all. I've done it each time I've relocated and have had great success with this approach.
I am now in San Diego and this is how I found the salon that I've been going to for seven years now. I was in Sally's Beauty supply store, saw a women their who's hair I admired and I just asked. Turns out the salon she recommended was right in my back door.
Follow these steps and you will be satisfied. Just keep going until you find the right salon/stylist.
Can you share some natural hair care that are effective?

Get the one in the Orange bottle and nothing else this is very good for your hair..
ok my mom always rinsed my hair in apple cider vinegar once a month, it strips the hair of all the buildup hair gets and makes it shine. (it is not as bad as it sounds)
Mayonnaise will condition it, but be carefull, if your hair is fine it might make it greasy looking.
I don't know if that's what you are looking for, but.........

Black hair care regime for relaxed to natural transition?
So I've been growing out my relaxed hair for about 5 or 6 months now and my natural hair is really really really thick! I can't even put my hair into one pontytail with out lumps and bumps on the side, even with gel, damp or any other products!
I use a ponytail puff to wear my hair everyday and now the ends are breaking off and the hair is becoming dry.
Is there a hair care regime to soften my hair and to make it more managable?
(preferably organic)
How do you manage your natural hair/ new growth?
Hello, I am a hair dresser. My advice to you is to get your hair braided so your ends don't break off. When you have new growth, you comb harder than you do with just relaxed hair and that puts unneeded tension on the relaxed hair. To soften your hair, comb your hair with a wide tooth comb while you are conditioning after you shampoo. Use hair lotion or blow out cream when you dry your hair. Try using hair oil and not hair grease and wrap foam instead of gel. Hair gel can break your hair off also. Hope this helps!
What is the best, affordable all natural black hair care product?
I dont work for much but I love my hair and try my best to take care of it. I'm looking for something that is 100% natural and costs under $10.U.S. if possible.
save up and buy the more expensive stuff.
cheap products are full of cheap chemicals.
the more expensive products are so priced because it costs a little extra to do things right, with natural materials.
i would recommend ABBA for natural hair.
it's all natural, and very good for textured hair.
my sister, who has been wearing her hair naturally for more than 10 years now swears by it.
here are a few of their products:
http://www.palmbeauty.com/storebrands/Abba/
you can get this line in any beauty supply store.
What is the best all natural hair care line, and where can I buy it.?
My hair is dry and ugly. I want a volumizer, shine serum, shampoo and conditioner to make it thick and shiny. Please help!
My absolute favorite is Pureology. But M.O.P. is purely organic (modern organic products). They have NO silicons or science...it's pure product and NO preservatives, so it can go bad if left too long. They are available only in salons, but I don't know where you live to tell you which one?
