Pittsburg pool construction to begin soon San Jose Mercury News

After three summers of waiting, Pittsburg residents should have their public swimming pool back next year.

Construction is about to begin on the $1.2 million project to replaster the decades-old pool at Buchanan Park, upgrade the plumbing to current health and safety standards and replace the pool decking, senior civil engineer Ron Nevels said.

The pool should be completed for the beginning of the summer, but the city is still looking for the money to operate it, according to assistant city manager Marc Fox.

The city plans to apply for grants to raise the $123,000 for salaries, chemicals, heating, water and other costs, he said.

A separate project to remodel the pool restrooms and dressing areas has been completed, Nevels said.

The pool is among several projects on tap in Pittsburg. The city has street-repaving projects planned for Bailey Road and Railroad Avenue, Nevels said.

Pittsburg will repave and widen sidewalks on about 900 feet of Bailey Road south of Highway 4 that receives heavy truck traffic from Keller Canyon Landfill, according to senior civil engineer Josh McDaniel.

Swimming Pool Construction Time Lapse

Pool Construction, 3 months in 3 minutes... (20000 gallon, in-ground liner pool)

pool construction?

can i cut down on pool construction costs if i dig my own hole in the ground?

Do you have a back hoe and dump truck and and place to dump all the stuff? Or do you have time to dig the hole with a shovel? Seriously you need to check rental costs for a Hoe and truck etc., plus dump permits and stuff. It could be cheaper to have the pool people dig it......

am going to start a Swimming pool construction company . Please suggest suitable name ?

How can I get local pool company to complete pool construction begun in april 27, still waiting for plaster...

contract for construction was in mid-april. the company is constantly doing a "no show" w/out any notification. they complete an average of .50 construction tasks a week. they have finally completed the cement process but that was over 3wks ago. we are awaiting plaster and electrical and are sick and tired of calling and asking where the hell they are and when the f--- this nightmare will be over. I want our home back. is there any legal precedent to cancelling the contract? I would like to find someone else to complete the pool.

gosh.... I am having the same problem with gary pools in san antonio.... what a nightmare....

warning to anyone thinking about doing a pool.... do not pay upfront..... and research the company.... talk to others that have used the company.....
good luck to you

Contact your local newspaper or news show

Thats what lawyers are for. Get one to send a letter. Normally that will start them up. Especially if they are not returning your calls or showing up on your jobsite.

Have a friend call them and act like a lawyer. Throw in some big words

You can sue them for breach of contract.

You are caught in the "Pool Company Nightmare." You should have gotten references from others who have used this company...actually, it isn't a company, but a contractor who subs out all the work to this or that party...Digging is one person, rebar is another person, gunnite is another person, electric is another person, tile is another person, plaster is another person..ladders,etc is another person...you get the idea. Call a Pool plasterer, an electrician, and a tile man...get estimates for completion immediately, when can they do it, etc. Get price on tile...must be installed before the plaster (use epoxy thin set...spec that in the tile contract). Once you have this in place, call the pool company and tell them you are canceling the contract with them for Non-performance. I hope you have taken pics and dated them along the way, kept a journal of all calls made and promises made and broken. If not, reconstruct on right now...you will need it when the pool contractor sues you..he won't win if you can produce the journal and pics of how he has left the place. What is happening to you is: The contractor is spending money faster than it is coming in. His subs will not work for him unless they are paid up front, for he has not paid them in a timely manner in the past. He must sell new jobs to get money to finish each phase of your job, and he can't get new money until he has started the new job..he is doing a juggling act, still spending more than he takes in between living and paying subs. He is a very poor contractor !! Don't even think there is a guarantee on the job! He will not be able to afford to fix anything that is wrong. And the "he" could well be a "she." I have seen both sexes play this game in all phases of contracting, but it is really pronounced in the pool game. Don't even think about given them one more cent until the job is finished, regardless of what the contract says. Call the company after you have talked to all these different subs..you can act as your own contractor at this point! Tell them you are cancelling the contract as of ...give a 4 day period. Tell them that once you have a new company on the job, they will not be allowed access to the site, period. See if that doesn't do some good....probably will get you a new set of lies...too wet, too dry, too hot, too cold, too anything but too much labor...what he is really saying is ...it costs too much for me to fininsh. Good luck

you may as well give goldwing the best answer award now, he hit the nail right on the head. My brother went through this nightmare a couple months ago. Documentation and photos are critical.

What companies are the best for swimming pool construction in Oklahoma City?

Are there any pool owners that recently had a pool installed that could offer your opinions?

Try Cardinal Pools.

they might be a little far off but i live in abilene, KS and there is a pool company here called McKees Pools Inc....that build undergroudn concrete pools and are DAMN good...they build city pools, country clubs, etc...they have went to texas and as far north as iowa...so there is one opinion

pool construction question?

can I cut down on the cost of an inground pool by digging my own hole in the ground?

There are companies that let you do a lot of your own work on building a pool. At least here in California. They will help you with plans, permits, and any portion of the job you can't or don't want to do. Like skilled concrete, plumbing, or electrical that have to pass building codes. Go on line to pool builders.

Should rent be discounted if the landlord is undergoing construction for a pool?

Here are the specifics:
1) I haven't moved in yet and he is quoting the rent as if a pool is included
2) I will have to undergo the construction of this pool (noise and unable to use backyard) and be paying for it.
3) My proposal is to have the rent increase once the pool is finished, but until then to have discounted rent (remember, his quoted rent is based that a pool is an amenity included)

NO
Especially if you want to swim in the pool later. If anything, he should raise your rent (at the end of your lease) since a pool on the property will make the place more attractive to new renters after the construction is completed!

That's between the tenant and the landlord. If the landlord says no, then it's no.

the landlord is turning himself into a pool? - doesn't affect rent.

On what basis? The landlord is improving the property.

If it is a single family home, I might argue that I am denied the enjoyment of the yard during the construction. If it is an apartment, I think not.

Umm yeah, that's a no

The important factor here is, is rent higher than the market rent rate because of the pool. It seems you are saying he's quoting you the rate as if the pool was already there. In that case, you are correct it should either be discounted or he should quote you as if the pool was not there since you are not able to utilize it.

Once the pool is complete and useable, he can now charge you a fee or raise the rent. Just be sure he's charging you as if the pool is there useable if you expect to get a discount.

what sort of base should i build to stand a pool holding 2000 galloons? would a patio construction do?

this is to put a summer childrens pool on - ist measures approx 12feet in diameter and is on a metal tubular frame and plastic pool

Some math:
Water = 8 lbs/gallon. 2,000 gallons = 16,000 lbs
Pool area: 12 x pi = 12 x 3.14 = 37.7 square feet

Weight of pool water per sq ft (not including children.)
16,000 lbs / 37.7 sq-ft = 424.4 PSI

You would need a massive (wood or steel) deck to support this load. I would not go that route.

A good solution, as mentioned previously, is solid dirt with a 2"-4" bed of compacted sand on top. Scrape the dirt to a level surface (or slight depression in center) - don't use loose dirt to fill low spots. Wet the dirt to aid compaction, then pour and level the sand. Mist it with water and then install the pool per instructions.

The side walls and supports will need attention to ensure a solid, level and accurate installation. Handle the vinyl liner carefully to avoid making any tears.

Well, if you think a patio construction would hold 10 to 15 tons then go ahead. Don't underestimate how heavy that quantity of water will be!

2000 gallons (UK) is 9 tonnes.

Your patio would probably take it as the area of the base of the pool is quite large. it is also stationary. Vehicles would impart a higher spot loading, and they seem to park on patios with few ill effects.

I would fill the pool slowly tho!

Yeah, if it's a reasonably well built deck. you're looking at approximately 146 pounds per square foot

Whatever you put the pool on, if the soil/earth underneath is compacted and there are no voids either in the soil or under the patio material I can't see how much can shift. The weight will be spread over quite a large area evenly. Assuming the pool uses a liner I would just lay a couple of inches of soft sand on the leveled ground, underneath it.

How much does a pool cost Pleasanton Ca?

I live in Pleasanton Ca and was wondering how much a pool costs to put in. I am just looking for a ball park figure so I am not giving any details. Also who is good in this area. I have heard horror stories from friends on pool construction.

you are in big trouble... i grew up in Pleasanton and they charge extra because of the town you live in!! The estimate is free.. have every pool company come out and give you one.. I would also call the company's from Dublin, Livermore, San Ramon.. every company from every town that will come out.. don't listen to the horror stories..as long as you go with a company that has a good rep.. you should be fine.. but.. always plan on the pool to cost more than the estimate..can i come and swim????

Another Above Ground Pool Question?

What should I be looking for in a good quality above ground pool and assesories kit ? What types of materials are a must and what are those to avoid? Gauge of liner, types of covers, steps, pool construction etc.. We are looking at a 24 to 27' round. Thanks for any advise!

Does anyone know what the consumer protection laws are for swimming pool construction in VA?

I just recently had an in ground swimming pool built in my back yard. That is the beginning of my problems. Here is the list:
1) Dug the pool too deep and caused drainage problems
2) Poured concrete
- left holes and rough edges
-put seams in crooked
-seams are not symetrical
-seams are missing
3)installed the slide on wrong side
-when he moved it to the correct slide left hole in concrete on other side
4)Slide leaks
5)Oh Yeah! Its the wrong slide!
6)Scratched up coping trying to scrape concrete off
7)Light was installed off center
8)Ladder is crooked
9)Ripped up edges of existing concrete while working
10) Tore up neighbors yard and tree with concrete truck

Anyway you get the picture. Help!!!

You should have checked the references of your builder before agreeing to let him build your pool. It seems to me that with this many problems, this is a pool builder that probably shouldnt be in the business anymore. Always Check your local Better Business Bureau for complaints etc. If you have had this many problems, I am sure that there are others that have complained as well.

I don't know the laws for Virginia, but i am sure if you get an attorney to try to recoup some of your money due to inadequate or shoddy work, since things were not done to expectations that once served with these papers from the attorney the company in question might change their ways. Your other choice is to have the decking and the slide, and other such problems fixed by another company and make them pay for the repairs necessary.

The one problem you might encounter is that a pool company might sub-contract some of the work out, and therefore, while technically they are liable for the work of the subcontractor they hired, the subcontractor can also be liable for their shoddy work.

I would consult a lawyer. Obviously having the pool in the backyard, there wont be any issues with seeing the problems. Just make sure you have your contract you signed with the pool builder, and the blueprints if they were given to you, or you have your own copies so that you can prove that the design of the pool was not followed as planned.

Hope this helps.
