Australia's Failure to Win Pool Upsets Rugby World Cup Spread Betting Markets MarketWatch (press release)

Apart from setting up a certain final between a northern hemisphere nation and a southern hemisphere nation - only once has this not been the case - Australia's qualification into the unexpected side of the draw has caused some large shifts in a number of spread markets.

Should pool service cost go down in the winter time ?
Since less chemical treatment is necessary during the winter , does the price go down for our pool service ? Our pool guy comes once a week and no one really uses the pool during the winter months . Right now we pay 80 dollars a month. Does this seem a little high for a small pool and a spa ?
Before I start I'd like to note that I have a great disdain for pool guys in general. I spend the majority of my day testing water and helping my customers undo the damage their pool men have done. Now, that being said. To answer the first question, no. While its true that pools require less chlorine and shock in the winter, it is not true that they require any less of any other chemical. Most pool guys don't even shock the pool anyway, so they aren't saving any money in chemicals because of the time of the year. They may save on the 3" tablets, but its a marginal amount and would only equate to a 2-3 dollar a month discount stretched over the period of winter.
80 dollars is not terrible for a monthly fee based on my experience, but you should periodically check him by taking your water into your local pool store and see if he's doing his job.

call all of them to come out and take a look and when they do look at them too. don't leave out landscapers and flooring installers they are people to you know. but if you don't want to sleep with a drip call a plumber. carpet installers stretch what they lay. electricians do it with sparks. mechanics usually have a big tool. i know you might think they are geeks but computer guys do it with a lot of ram.

How many homes will my pool service?
Our developer is planning on expanding our subdivision. I would like to know how many homes our Jr. Olympic pool will take care of. I don't want him to crowd the pool.
You need to call the town and ask a bylaw officer to swing by and rate the pool.

If I sell a pool service company this year for 45k what percentage do I pay in taxes and when?
The company is a partnership with a DBA in Texas. It has no equiptment just the maitenance route is being sold. It usually grosses 90k a year but I am selling at 45k plus tax. How do I figure out the tax?
I am not getting paid in installments.
It depends on what your cost basis is - normally you take your sales price, subtract your cost basis and are taxed on the remainder. What the tax rate percentage depends on the sale transaction and whether the sale qualifies as regular income or capital income. It also depends on what your marginal tax rate is - the income tax ranges from 10% to 35%. The capital gains rate is 15% or 25% depending on what your marginal tax rate is. It also depends on if you receive a lump sum or you get installment payments over several years.
If you are working with an accountant or tax preparer, talk to them. If you aren't you should consult with one - it should cost you $75 - $120 per hour and should take an hour or less if you bring in your previous tax returns and some estimated income and deduction numbers for 2008.
as for the tax...that may depend on your total income for the year. The tax bracket can be looked up at www.irs.gov.

In Texas you are looking at anywhere between 75 and 150 dollars a month. (depends on how many gallons and what type of service).
At Aqua~Bower Pools in Houston, the average per customer is about 140 a month. This includes checking equipment, backwashing, baskets, brush, leaf eat or vaccum, testing water and chemicals on a weekly basis.
Some folks only choose to do chemicals only, however, I find if the client is not taking care of the pool the way it should be taken care of, the 75 dollar fee for chemicals only per week is a waste of money.
Many folks don't seem to realize that keeping a good balance of chemicals in their pool at all times will lengthen their equipment life.
