Top 5 Reasons to Ditch your OB/GYN Babble (blog)
Physician.2. Your OB Doesn’t Support Your Birth Plan: Are you hoping for a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean?) How about a drug-free birth? If you’ve discussed your wishes with your OB, and get the feeling that he or she is not fully supportive of your decisions, it may be time to look elsewhere. The last thing you want when it comes down to the wire, is a doctor who is not on board with you!
3. Your OB Doesn’t Have Time for You: If you find yourself sitting in the waiting room for an hour, only to be rushed in and out of the exam room within 5 minutes, this may be a good indicator that your OB is too busy to offer you the attention you deserve.
4. Your OB Has a High Cesarean Rate: If you aren’t sure what your OB’s cesarean section rate is, it’s a question worth asking. The difference between 15% and 50% is pretty significant, and upon inquiring, you may even find that your OB or hospital do not offer VBAC as an option—period. This is one of the main reasons I switched OB’s during my second pregnancy.

prenatal massage?
im 39 weeks + 1 day pregnant and going for an hour prenatal massage later today. I am SO excited. im hoping it will induce labor. do you think it will help induce labor? did it work for any of you? i've been 1.5 cm dialated 80% effaced for over a week.
So unless you tell her upfront she will avoid those spots like the plague! LOL
Good luck and enjoy!
When do you need to start asking for a prenatal massage?
I am only 7 weeks pregnant. I usually get a deep tissue massage about once a month. Is this still safe? Or do I have to get a prenatal massage? I don't know if a prenatal massage is special because women with big, pregnant bellies can't lay on their back/stomach or if they are special for another reason.
This might sound like a dumb question... that's why I wanted to bring it up here instead of at the massage clinic! :)
Congratulations! I am a New York State Licensed Massage Therapist who has specialized in prenatal and postnatal massage for 8 years. Pregnancy affects every organ and system of the body - digestive, respiratory, circulatory, endocrine. It is important to work with a qualified therapist who knows which techniques are indicated or contraindicated for each stage of pregnancy.
I recommend finding a therapist who specializes in pregnancy massage. A competent pregnancy massage therapist will also be a valuable referral source for local services/providers related to pregnancy, childbirth and parenting.
What to wear during a prenatal massage?
I am 6 months pregnant and am getting a prenatal massage later today. I've had massages prior to pregnancy and always went topless and never had a problem. But I don't know what to expect with a prenatal massage. Is it okay to go topless? or what should I wear?
You take everything off just like a regular massage. You will lay on your side with the sheet pulled up over you.
Congratulations by the way!
Does anyone know where I could get certified in Prenatal Massage?
I live in Arizona and i'm already a licensed massage therapist. I'd like to get certified in Prenatal Massage but can't seem to find a school or organization of some sort that specializes in Prenatal Massage. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated! =]
Hi, I am wondering the same thing. I believe you may be able to take a continuing education class that may specialize on prenatal massage. I am assuming that since it's not taught while going to a massage school, that it should be offered as a continuing education class. That's my best guess..I haven't found any college that i've seen that specializes in this one type of massage. Ask where you went to college, or a college close to you that has continuing education, and see if they offer a class.
I just looked up prenatal massage therapy classes and found a place in Colorado. (Yes i know it's not in Arizona :)

where to go for a good prenatal massage in phoenix?
i'd like to go to a salon/spa that has good prenatal massages. where would you recommend?
Massage Envy is a local massage franchise with a few valley locations.
You can also try the Arizoan School of Massage in Tempe-located on Priest & Southern (right off the 60) It's half the price.
Another option is to ask your OB-GYN if he/she has any recommendations for pre-natal massage.
I would also post your question in the Phoenix section of Craigslist under Baby & Kids. Hopefully, your question won't be flagged.
I had a local massage therapist when I was pregnant, but live in the East Valley. She was certified and specifically trained for pregnancy massages.
All the best to you :-)
Has anyone had a prenatal massage?
I'm 30 weeks now and am so ready for someone to rub my body all over for an hour. I have an appointment on Friday. It's only 45 bucks for an hour! My friend went for a regular massage there and said it was great!
What is the difference in a prenatal massage? Do they make you super comfortable? Do you take all of your clothes off?
In prenatal massage, you cannot lay on your stomach while we massage the muscles in your back. If the clinic/spa offers it, there is this preggo pillow thing that you lay on top of, face down that has a big hole for the stomach area, but personally I always have mom do side-lying positions with tons of pillows to support (feels like you're floating, much more comfortable in my opinion!). As with any massage, strip down to what you're most comfortable in. I will tell you that 90% of people go totally naked, and the others will wear only their panties. Remember that MT's are professionals and we are trained in draping techniques that will not expose you. Other than the positions used while massaging, preggo massage avoids using certain scents if aromatherapy is being used (such as rosemary which can cause contractions) and there are specific points on your body that are also avoided (shiatsu points that are believed to induce labor). An MT trained in preggo massage knows certain tricks and such for those particularly achy spots. Have fun!!
Is it safe to get a prenatal massage when you are 9 weeks pregnant?
My husband has a group that is giving free massages today, and he offered to have me come down. I wanted to know if it is safe for me to get a massage at this stage? Or if there were limitations, like yes but only on the shoulders or only on the lower back or something like that. I would really love to get a massage since I have a lot of tension in my upper back and shoulder areas but I want to make sure this is safe.
As long as the person who is giving the massage has been trained to give prenatal massages, it is perfectly safe. One thing you could request is that they don't use scented oils in the massage, some scents can cause labor. Otherwise, massages are the most amazing thing to have while you are pregnant, whether you are 9 weeks and or 8 months!
Where are there spa get-aways that has prenatal massage on its menu in either Singapore or neighbouring island?
It's for a sister's wedding treat, but one of the other sisters is 3-months pregnant, so we need to go somewhere where she can get a massage too. If no day spa, any massage place recommendation in Singapore will do too. Thank you!
go to Koh Samui, just near singapore there is direct flight, one we stayed at is on Dara Samui Beach Resort and Spa Villa, they have a wonderful spa and rooms are very cheap now..
contact me if you want recommendations.
Going into the prenatal massage career?
I would like to head into the prenatal massage career after I finish high school, but have a question - I know that prenatal massage is a specific branch off of the general massage therapy track, and I'm curious as to if I would need to attend a course in general massage therapy, and THEN go to a prenatal massage school, or if I would just head to the prenatal massage school without attending the general school. Any help?
The first step is to get nationally certified in massage therapy. To do this you need to attend a 500 hour certification program and then sit for the national certification exam (NCBTMB). You will be exposed to prenatal massage as part of your program but you will need to first learn the basics of massage as well as anatomy and physiology.
When you are near the end of your certification program, you can begin to take workshops on prenatal massage. There is not a specific program for certification in prenatal massage, you just take workshops and look for reputable teachers.
Since you are just out of high school I recommend you look into getting an associates degree in massage therapy which may or may not be offered in your area.
As a Prenatal Massage Therapist working from home, how could I give the perfect massage experience?
If anyone has had an enjoyable/bad experience of pregnancy massage I would also like to hear from you.
I AM A MASSAGE THREAPIST ALSO AND IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON WHO IS PREGNANT, AT THE TME WHAT THEY LIKED BEFORE MAY FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE NOW, SO CHANGE THE PRESSURE OF WORK ON A DIFFERENT AREA.
