Barbershop is a little bit Mayberry, a bit rock 'n roll Chicago Sun-Times
Color stylist Judi Alvarez, 25, worked in Lincoln Park before moving to Floyd's in Wicker Park. "I watched a lot of Nick at Nite growing up so I got the Mayberry thing," Alvarez said while giving me a neck trim. "A lot of people ask about it: 'So is Floyd the owner? Who's Floyd?' "
Floyd doesn't exist, but client Brad Altman does.
The Chicago nightclub promoter visits Floyd's in Wicker Park twice a week for a face and head shave. He's been known to fall asleep during his 90-minute session. Altman vows never to touch a razor again.
"The owner of Crobar told me about the place," Altman said. "In Vegas I have this guy Sal from Baltimore. He's in the spa at Caesars. He's this old-school barber with Frank Sinatra playing and 'Casino' on the television. You think you're going to get whacked with the hot towel. I've been shaving my head for years. I started thinking there had to be a place in Chicago to get this done."
No one had any tips for Altman until he made his Crobar connection.

What kind of electric razor is best for someone who will shave almost everyday, with short stubbly hair?
I really want to know if a foil, or 3-head rotary razor is best. Of course I will want a close shave, though I hear that can be hard to get from an electric. I'm simply tired of razor shaving everyday.
Anyone have any experiences with the different types...I know they are expensive and I don't want to have to try all of them :P
I have found Braun Electric Razor to be one of the best ever electric razors for a nice close shave everytime.
The head of the razor is foil and i have just replaced that head after three years of hard use.
Good luck
how do i prevent razor burn when i shave my face?
im 16 and get really bad razor burn on my neck that looks bad, kind of like acne, when i shave. i have tried different razors, shaving more gently and other things but nothing helps. what can i do to prevent this? thanks
thanks, i had been shaving before i shower. next time i shave ill do it after, and see how it goes.
Those are actually ingrown hairs on your neck. This is what you need to do:
First, you need to exfoliate while you are taking your shower on the days you plan to shave; this will help to get get all the hairs out from under the skin. You can do not need to use a separate facial wash after you give your face a good scrub.
Second, you need to use the correct shaving cream. NEVER use anything that is a gel or comes in a can. I am using Kiehl's brushless shaving cream right now and highly recommend it. A stiff brush (boar) and some shaving soap would be best for ingrown hairs, but it is hard to find the time for that. When you shave, make sure you shave with the grain. If you are unsure how your hair grows, do not shave for the better part of a week and look at it then. No. You do not always shave up on the neck.
Third, you need to apply a facial moisturizer everyday. You should use something that designed for oily skin. Try to stick to gels or something with a matte finish. If you stick to this, you will notice your face will be far less oily in a couple weeks.
You will be amazed at how fast your complexion changes if you stick to it.
How do I shave down there without getting terrible razor burn?
I don't shave up because that hurts and makes me get little cuts everywhere, and it makes my razor burn 20,000,000 times worse.
But even when I shave downwards I get really bad razor burn and sometimes ingrown hairs.
I use BikiniZone and sensitive skin razors and shaving cream.
I put lotion on it 2 times a day,
but nothing seems to be working.
Any suggestions?!!?
I don't use bikini zone
I use Gel Shaving Cream and lots of it and I let it sit
for a minute before I start. Sound like you are not "wet"
enough. Dip your razor in warm water right before you
shave. Then when I'm done. I put more shaving gel
on and let it sit for about 30 seconds and instead of
using cream conditioner, I immediately apply neosporen.
98 % of the time, my boyfriend shaves it for me. That
also seems to be much better. It's like trying to cut
your own hair !!!
Some woman like the hair down there and thats all fine and dandy but I personally hate hair anywhere besides on my scalp eyebrows or eyelashes. I just think no hair looks prettier than pube hair.
it may not get rid of all of it but it helps tame it tremendously.
also, look online for home remedies for razor burn. you'd be surprised what you'd find.
Has anyone used a straight razor to shave their legs?
I have been thinking about purchasing a straight razor to shave my legs. Does this type of razor give a closer shave? How careful do you need to avoid cutting yourself. How difficult is it to sharpen the razor? Any suggestion on what straight razor is best?
How to shave private area without getting razor burn?
Ok I really want to keep it nice and neat but every time I shave down there within two days i have razor burn. If I try to keep at it it just becomes worse. I would rather not have any hair down there but Ive tried for years and I cant figure out how to stop the razor burn. Shaving with the hair only leaves it prickly so how can I do it every day without the razor burn and bumps.
You want to do it every day? That's usually not good, since it'll cause razor burn no matter what. That area is super sensitive, so you have to be careful. Many women I've heard can only shave that area once every four days or so.
Anyway, try not doing it so often. And shave with an oil instead of a cream or gel. I like Baby Oil. And use Bikini Zone gel afterward. It won't make it perfect, but you'll come close.
Also lotion after like coca butter.
Don't do it everyday, that causes irritation.
Also make sure the razor and the area has been in warm water for like 5 mins, that helps reduce razor burn.
Balding or Shaved Men: What type of razor do you use to shave your head?
I shave my head often with cheap disposable, single-blade razors. Sometimes it leaves red marks. Is there a better razor for shaving a head? Do any of you use triple or quatro blade razors to shave head? Thanks Bald dudes.
Two blade works fine.
What's the best way to get a close shave with a disposable razor?
I usually shave every other day so that I can shave hair easier.
I soak my face with warm water.
I put on shaving cream.
I use a single-blade disposable razor.
I shave downward on my cheeks.
I shave across toward my chin on my jawline.
I shave upward on my neck.
The problem I have is that I usually can't get a close shave on my neck; what should I do?
Hair on the neck can grow in both directions, I suggest first shaving upwards, then downards to get all stray hairs. Secondly I use hair conditioner (really, it works) beacuse it makes the blade run smoothly and closely to the skin.
Can you use the same razor to shave armpits and legs?
I used the same razor to shave my armpits, pubics, and legs. Does this affect anything? I've noticed a few lil tiny bumps on each legs and above the knees that looks kinda like pimples. Doesn't itch or hurt but it's just there. I've had the dermatologist looked at it but he can't prescribe me anything for it because I am pregnant. Just wondering if using the same razor to shave everything can cause this?
i always use disposable ones that way you won't keep them too long and always use a different one for different body parts, just to be safe so you wont spread anything because sometimes we can be more sensitive in certain areas than in others.
Why does my neck get irritated when I shave with an electric razor?
I recently (less than a month ago) began using an electric razor to shave my face and neck. When I shave with it, my face doesn't get irritated but my neck does. What can I do about this?
Is there anything that I can apply post-shaving to my neck to help with the irritation?
Many men who have very sensitive skin report that it helps to shave the most tender areas of their face (the neck area below the jawbone) first and then move up to the tougher areas of their face in the areas between the ears, nose, and mouth.
Some shavers generate heat on their shaving surfaces and heat can cause irritation. So shave the tender areas of your face first while the shaver head is coolest. It is also helpful to use a product such as Parks Pre/Aft lotion or one of the fine variety of Williams Lectric Shave products available at Shavers.com.
Although one of the many benefits of electric razors is that they're fast and easy; they can still rub your face the wrong way leaving it dry and uncomfortable.
Most men who use electric shavers use a pre-shave lotion for a closer, smoother shave. More men use Lectric Shave than any other brand.
Men use Lectric Shave because it works and here's how. Beard hairs often lie down flat against your skin. Part of the reason is dampness; oils and greases tend to hold the hair down, much in the way tall grass lies flat when wet. Within seconds of splashing on Lectric Shave your beard will start to bristle up as the natural moisture evaporates. The dry hair will stands up straight allowing you to get a closer shave than you ever thought possible.
Williams Lectric Shave pre-shave makes the most of your electric razor by protecting your face from irritation. Its lubricants and moisturizers help the razor glide smoothly over your face. Just apply, let it dry, then shave and rinse. Your skin will be smooth and comfortable with a healthy look.
Williams Lectric Shave recently introduced Lectric Shave Ultra—a pre shave gel. Ultra is a non-oily, non-greasy, easy way to apply pre-shave gel. Its lubrication helps your razor glide smoothly and reduce razor burn. New Lectric Shave Ultra has a contemporary scent and contains menthol, aloe and vitamin E which help soothe sensitive skin.
How do I get a close shave and not get razor burn/bumbs?
In the last year my peach-fuzz became facial-hair. It's that akward kind thats not full enough to be rugged but just long enough to be ratty. I tried to shave a few weeks ago and (egad!!!) I got some gnarley razor burn. I shaved after a hot shower, used a clean mach 5 razor, colgate shaving cream, didnt' have after-shave so I subbed rubbing alchol but still got burned. By know the Bumps have cleared up and I'm ready to have another go at it but I need some good advice about this, I really dont razor bumps again.
Oh, and I should probibly mention I'm black and to my knowlege dark-skinned guys especially of african descent Get burns and bumps very easily so bear that in mind.
After thought:
I've noticed black actors never have razor bumps, WHAT IS THIER SECRET!
You need to soak your face in warm water first to make the hair softer. Then use a good lubricating shave cream. Shave WITH the hair direction, not against.
Then you need to make sure you moisturise after. You can get nice manly smelling moisturisers nowdays.
Oh and only use twin blade.
