Reflexologist eases pain through feet Loudoun Times-Mirror
Reflexology is an alternative type of therapy that involves various techniques of acupressure to reflexive areas on your hands and feet that match specific organs, glands and other parts of the body.“Feet don’t lie,” according to Wayland.
Wayland has been a certified masseuse in Virginia for about 20 years but specifically focuses on foot reflexology now. It is not necessary in Virginia to have a certificate to perform reflexology.
Wayland and her family have struggled through the years. Her son suffers from Crohn’s disease, and her daughter has also been in a car accident. After taking care of her children for a long time using reflexology, Wayland was ready to begin her own practice.
She is currently working at Purcellville Spa & Boutique, a job that came to her by chance.
On a day just like any other, Wayland went into Purcellville Spa & Boutique to ask for a price on something when she met Thu Doan, the owner of the salon. Wayland recalls that the two women “took to each other like ducks on water.”
Introduction to Reflexology
An excerpt from our Mind and Body Medicine show we produced for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This segment is an introduction to reflexology ...

Reflexology?
I know you can treat symptoms through massaging the feet, but when you go to have reflexology, can you go with a specific complaint, or is it just 'what they find' at the time? Can you have several symptoms treated in the hour or half hour session?
I would like expecially to hear from people who have had it and how they found it helped them...
I had this chronic problem of varicose veins and didn't want to go for surgery then i read abt reflexology and gave it try
The experience was exhilarating in the first session itself my aches n pain disappeared of course mine was a chronic case i needed more treatment n exercise
But i was told that normally anyone can have a reflexology massage but see the person who does it well trained n experienced
In reflexology is there a specific area on the hands or feet that I could massage or manipulate for insomnia?
I don't know much about reflexology, just that certain places on the hands and feet correspond to various other parts of the body and its organs. But does reflexology offer anything in the way of help for better sleep? I've had chronic insomnia following a traumatic event a decade ago. It's hard for me to fall asleep, stay asleep, or sleep deeply, and my health has really suffered as a result. No pharmaceuticals (I've tried them ALL), herbal remedies or "sleep hygiene" tips I've been given over the years has done a bit of good. I'm planning to try hynpnotherapy, EMDR and Alpha-Stim soon with a new, very experienced therapist, but was also curious about reflexology.
a very good point to use is about two thumbs above your ears turn with your fingers that point and will experience a sleep reflex
I don't know if reflexology helps you sleep but if you copy the above into your address area, you can find reflexology charts showing what part of your feet correspond to the various part of your body.
Reflexology: I just bought a kit that teaches basic reflexology and have a couple questions?
1 Can you do reflexology on yourself or does someone else have to do it?
#2 Can you only do one area or do you have to work the entire body part such as the feet? I woke up with back pain, can I only work the area that deals with the back and the spine or do I need to do the whole body?
you can do it on yourself and you can just work a single part of the foot.
If your back is still hurting though you may want to see a chiropractor or a massage therapist
2 yes you can just do spot work( the area that is bothering you).
Why is reflexology contraindicated when a woman is pregnant?
Reflexology is contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy. Why?
Because it could have an adverse effect on the blood vessels in either the hands or feet.
Here's the link to a site that might be able to help you get more information. The link is: http://forums.obgyn.net/pregnancy-birth
Where can I find a pair of asian reflexology flip flops?
While in Hawaii, I purchased a pair of black flip flops with a magnet. They can with a small card showing the reflexology points the shoes helped. I love another pair, this brand was only available in a brown and a black. I loved them and would love another pair!

Is it ok to have Reflexology done while Pregnant?
I have a prenatal massage appointment tomorrow, and I also scheduled a reflexology treatment along with it. At first I just thought it was just extra time on my hands and feet (because they are so swollen!) and I really wanted to increase circulation and just have them massaged more, but after doing a little research there seems to be more than that going on then just relaxation. Does anyone know for sure if it's safe to have reflexology while pregnant? I'm 34 weeks along. Thanks!
Hi there.
In the first trimester reflexology is contraindicated. From there on it is quite safe but there are certain areas to go easy on and your therapist, if properly, trained will know about this. Reflexology is great for expectant mum's and I have had many pregnant clients that report it not only makes them feel good but seems to settle the little one as well. Enjoy !

Best wishes and good luck with your new baby.
Will it cure any ailements you have? Of course not.
See http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/reflex.html for an examination of this topic in some detail. I doubt it will convince you otherwise, once you have made up your mind, but it is worth looking at. You have nothing to lose in abandoning the practice, and it will save you money. If you like foot massages, get a pedicure. They're quite pleasant and the stress relief has health benefits like anything that reduces stress.
Why is reflexology contraindicated when a person is using alcohol or drugs?
contraindication is the time when reflexology is not advisable because it may cause damage or harm.
I can tell you why it's contraindicated for a massage and I would think that it has the same type of effect. I find this is also true for reiki sessions as well. For massage, it improves circulation and the blood is moving through the body at a higher rate. This has a direct effect on the alcohol that is consumed. It gets into the blood stream faster. This means that you are very like (and it has been proven time and time again) that you will get drunk twice as fast and the after effects, such as a hangover, will be twice as bad. This is also why I've seen many many people get sick if they go work out and then try to drink. It just doesn't work.
Again, I'm just going to assume that it has a similar effect as reflexology would. You're still working on the body and moving things quicker through the body.
What is the best course to study Reflexology?
Which is the best professional course for reflexology?
Wow, I'm amazed at the ingorance so abundant in answers, especially from people answering questions they obviously know nothing about.
Have either of you hever HAD reflexology done on you? Why have they been doing it in the Eastern cultures for thousands of years if it doesn't work? Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it doesn't work. And just because there's no "scientific" proof that it works DOESN'T mean it isn't true! (for over 40 years there was no "scientific proof" that smoking causes cancer, but was there REALLY any question??)
Anyway, I've had lots of sessions with Reflexology, and I can attest that it does work. You can say it is the "placebo" effect, but I've done it LOTS of times, and the placebo effect doesn't continue working if there's not real benefit. I'm not going to get into the mind-vs-body issue regarding the placebo effect, though.
Find a good, accredidated school that does Reflexology along with other natural modalities (such as massage), or one that does ONLY Reflexology. If you want to be truly effective, go to a whole schooling, not just a few classes or workshops. Usually, it's about a year long.
Try going to www.naturalhealers.com to find a good school in your area.
Is there a way to perform reflexology at home?
Could someone explain how i can carry out reflexology on my feet, e.g do i need to massage certain points on my feet using a feet reflexology chart, or do i tap certain points u get my drift.
err DUHH lol, reflexology is to do with pressure points in the feet anyway for goodness sake not a bloody foot spa.
You can buy reflexology socks. I think they work well because they tell you exactly what to press and wear. They usually come with a little instruction booklet and come in fun aromatherapy scents. Good luck! :)
