Relaxation recipe: Red kuri squash gnocchi Alaska Dispatch

: Defined body types. There are three main doshas and the central concept of Ayurvedic medicine is the theory that health exists when there is a balance between these. The three types of doshas are called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. If you want to find out what your dosha is, you can go here  and take a small quiz. So, much is done culinary-wise in relation to what type of dosha you might have – what foods you should eat, even what spices you might use on particular foods, to enhance the balance of your dosha.

I am a Pitta (that’s my dosha and that’s how I might describe myself to someone I meet this week). But, I have a Vata imbalance. I know, it’s confusing for me, too.  In general, it means I should eat comforting foods -- phew, I lucked out there.

I asked Chef Greg Frey Jr., chef de cuisine at the La Costa Resort (where the Chopra Center is located) to teach me a comforting fall Vata-balanced recipe. He grabbed a red kuri squash from the counter and showed me how he makes squash gnocchi.

Relaxation Therapy

I want to spend the next several minutes just talking to you. The objective here is that you might become as comfortable and relaxed as possible ...

Relaxation?

Can anyone suggest any free or cheap relaxation techniques that i can try so i can unwind.

Dont like taking baths and my man cant give a decent massage to save himself!

SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY!!!

I tried a massage chair at the pharmacy last time I was there and it was almost as good as the real thing. It had wheel things in the seat that rotated up and down my back. You could also try getting a soft mattress pad on your bed to make it more confortable then light some scented candles, play some soft music just lay down for a while.

go Walker or get book , a mover

What are some excellent relaxation techniques so you fall asleep?

What are some excellent relaxation techniques so you fall asleep?

Not medicine(running out of those).

Any other techniques that make you tired before bed other than take a hot bath and read a book?

AM/PM meditation CDs, they rock, they easy you into relaxation, and walk you through relaxing your whole body and preparing for sleep, you might even fall asleep before you get through the CD!

First thing I do is take 10 long, deep slow breaths and relax, enjoying the feel of the mattress and pillow. That usually works. If it doesn't I warm a cup of milk and slowly sip it. That does it for me.

I eat something. I've found icecream works the best for putting me to sleep.

I listen to music. Usually after about 5 songs or so i start feeling so sleepy I can no longer make out the words or recognize the song. That's when i turn off my mp3, roll over onto my side, and snooze.

Z Z Z zzzz...

How does one measure the amount of relaxation in high temperature pipes in thermal power plants?

Also which areas of say a main steam pipe will have more relaxation?

Where expansion and contraction are a problem, pipe hangars are spring loaded and a pointer and scale can be attached to measure the lateral movement at that point. Expansion joints, loops and u-bends are also used to absorb linear travel due to expansion. The amount or relaxation or expansion is dependent upon the temperatures and pressures involved and the material used for the piping. The hottest point in the system or the boiler outlet will be the most affected because there will be some thermal loss and pressure drop, however minute, in any system.

How do I outfit my room for maximum relaxation?

I was going to clean it roof to floor, air it out for a day or something, clean my sheets, and get a few relaxation CDs. Any other ideas? I am willing to rearrange my room.

when you go to a spa (if you ever have), the furnishings are all minimal, and all neutral colors, and very relaxing. Remove all the knick-knacks and loud colors. Have smooth surfaces and monotone colors on your bed and windows. Nothing fussy, just the required and absolute necessities.

Put a small indoor water fountain in there, the sound of the water trickling down from the fountain is very relaxing.

Get some scented candles that will help get you into a relaxing mood too.

How do you balance schoolwork and relaxation?

I go to a competitive suburban high school and work hard to earn a 4.0, but I feel that I am working really hard but I don't get a lot of relaxation. How much time should I allocate for relaxation each day and how should I relax? How much time should I spend on school work?

Congratulations! You are already on the way to balancing schoolwork and relaxation... by admitting that you need to balance them, you have made a choice.

Set a schedule... Plan on 2 hours of homework/studying and 1 hour of relaxation... then 2 more hours of homework/studying... by putting it in the middle of your afternoon/evening, you'll make sure to relieve stress while prepping for the next wave of schoolwork.

What you do it truly up to you.... my daughter used to spend the hour with her next-door friend. But she was VERY disciplined about the hour limitation.

You could walk... take your iPod, put on your favorite music, and walk for 30 minutes, turn around, and walk back!

You could try yoga or some other form of exercise... exercise is an excellent way to 'relax' your mind and muscles.

You could cook.... or knit..... or do scrapbooking.... or paint. Find something you enjoy that releases your mind and soul so that you can truly relax!!!

Whatever you choose, protect your hour!!! Be as diligent with your relaxation hour as you are with your studies.

sweetie, i don't think you can!

just relax

depends on what you see as relaxation. if you like to run, a good jog is maybe 30 minutes. if you like to read, 45 minutes per day is good. there are relaxing things you can do to improve your high school resume as well, such as sports or community service.

if you like tv or video games, that will be a lot more time consuming. I recommend saving that stuff for spring or winter break. i used to get into games a lot and it is too addicting to be playing during school unless you have a lot of spare time.

What are some quick relaxation exercizes I could do in the morning?

Every morning I wake up at 5:00 and I have to leave the house by 6:40 to be at the bus stop. I'm always really stressed in the morning, and it usually causes me to not have good days like I want to have. I'm a 14 year old guy. What would be some relaxation techniques I could use in the morning to make the stress go away?

oh wow, i have the same thing and i am 14 haha what i do is tension relaxtion. When you tense your muscles and relax them it reliefs stress. Tense your body and relax it 10 times in the morning and at night it really helps! for 10 seconds.

What is the best way to approach organisations to offer Relaxation & Stress Management training?

I offer training in Relaxation and Stress Management and have worked for several organisations through word of mouth from my one-to-one sessions and found it very rewarding. I'd be interested to find out what you think is the best way to approach organisations for this type of work.

You know what, I think this is a very easy question to answer.
Go to companies that are fairly medium to large size, and ask them if they would be interested in letting you host a session on stress. Maybe you could call it, stress in the workplace, or something like that. I have visited some of these at my job I have been at for 10 years, and they are helpful, and many people do show up. Otherwise, find out if you can partner with an insurance provider who provides insurance to businesses. They may be able to partner you in, and keep you permanently, and then you could work for them, and they could tell you where to go to do your sessions.
Good luck to you. ps...I just read an article on Tyler Perry, where he went from being homeless to a millionaire. He was determined to become successful, with his playwrights and he suffered for it, but he finally made it to the top. It is not about winning, it is about doing as much as you can for yourself on your own, with God's help, and making it. I believe He blesses you for your hard work.

You have to have fliers that are convincing which include some pictures and showing presentations you have made. Get a bunch of copies and give same to the human resource directors
of the organizations you plan to deal with...

Why is the rate of relaxation much slower after tetanus than after a single twitch?

Why is the rate of relaxation much slower after tetanus than after a single twitch?

I think I misinterpreted your original question (see orig. response below). I guess you are just asking why it takes longer for the muscle to stop applying force when the tetany is removed. This is likely to do with the fact that actin/myosin bridges have maximally shortened the muscle fiber and therefore take longer to "unfurl" than the partial shortening seen with a signal shock.

If you are asking about neuromuscular blockade or NMJ dysfunction assessment:
Wow...this is really a very specific question and its worded a bit funny but I believe you are referring to assessing the degree of blockade at the neuromuscular junction?

If you give a tetanic train of stimuli and then follow up a few seconds later with assessment you get a larger response (post-tetanic augmentation) than the single twitch and then in the following 5+ minutes it will be depressed relative to the single twitch (post-tetanic depression).

This occurs because the tetanic pre-stimulus mobilizes acetylcholine vesicles for release for the augmentation phase. This also reduces the available readily mobilized vesicles and thus you get the depression phase.

Of course all of this depends on having a nondepolarizing defect of neuromuscular junction function to start with such as a curare-like agent, myasthenis, or Lambert Eaton syndrome. The effect is particularly strong in LEMS.

Who sells amazing aromatherapy candles and relaxation products?

Looking to be a nice graduation gift for my husband's mother who has just earned her MA. She is a nervous nelly type and needs some nice relaxation gifts. Any ideas of what stores sell higher quality candles, tapes, massage type items?

The Body Shop. They have tons of relaxing Products there. it's good quality stuff, and not to pricey. (pricey?? is that even a word?? Well I'm sure you know what I mean.)

What forms of leisure/ relaxation were used in the Victorian Age?

We have tons of forms of relaxation enjoyment today-- massages, spa treatments, and all other sorts of pampering things available to us. But what did they do in the 1800's for the same sort of enjoyment/ relaxation?

Well, without all the technological advances that we enjoy today, they had to make their own entertainment - and it sounds a lot more fun than we have today! Massages and spa treatments would normally be used for health reasons, not just for pampering. New thoughts came in that it would be healthy and restful to stay beside the sea; and people would often travel to the continental spas if they could afford it.

Here are some good sites with a lot of information:

Mediums and spiritualism enjoyed an upsurge of interest in Victorian times, with people being suitably amazed at table-tapping and ectoplasm. Many a winter's night might be spent at the fireside telling ghost stories.

I imagine the nearest thing to a spa would be to take the waters at Bath or Harrogate, or some other suitable place; and people did go swimming, though in respectable costumes which covered most of the body.

Creative Visualization Relaxation

Creative visualization relaxation is such a powerful mental tool because we can literally create the experience we desire. Through our creativity and visualization, we can create a virtual experience. Science has proven that the human nervous system is incapable of distinguishing between actual experience and the same experience imagined vividly in complete detail. Creative visualization [...]
