My family wants to go into the business of seling professional salon and beauty supply. how do we start?

My family would like to start selling beauty supplies to salons and customers. does anyone know how we can start this? we have a place in mind but in starting the actual buying and selling process we do not know where to start. anyone know??

ask mary kay

Count yourself one among many and run with the crowd.

Think I would scope out local competition and see what they offer and are all about.....then perhaps contact someone in area who may have had similar business and did not make it - may be willing to share some insight there as well as rid of some equipment and so forth.

Proceed with caution!

Be professional with your signs and your writing. It's a real turn off when there are many incorrect words.

buy cheap and sell high!
create a relationship with your vendors and develop your territories close before you try to spread out. Hire commissioned sales reps, ad don/t quit your day job for the first 12 months. know your product and believe in it. keep good books and manage your inventory. Remember the paycheck is for employees, your building a company with value

What are some names of salon equipment supply stores in Austin, or Houston,TX?

Beauty salon equipment, that is.

Sally beauty supply and there is a place in Houston off of Harwin that sells all kinds of supplies from dryers , curling irons, blow dryer's, and salon decor etc... I haven't the name but contact this beauty supply store : SalonBeautySpot.com the number is on the website and they could help you with more information

There are "Sally Beauty Supply" stores in and around Houston. I know they offer discounts to professional hairdressers.

Here is a list of their locations:

salon supply color vs. box color sets?

what makes salon supply color better than box color sets?
the difference between box color sets purchased at a drug store vs. buying dye at a salon supply store and doing it myself.

I don't think they are better now days. I am going to go back to the box!

it's not better.
2 years ago i was blonde and dyed it brown at a salon and paid 80 freakin' bucks for it.
I went blonde a year later again, then dyed it again (i change my hair alot. lol) recently, and it looks the same as it did the first time i dyed it!!!
salons are a rip off unless you get highlights or something. use the box.

80 dollars, or 7 dollars ?
you decide =]

Does anyone know of a website where I could purchase salon supplies?

I'm looking specifically for manicure supplies, such as the gel they apply to your nails, French manicure tips, adhesive... etc. I got tired of going to a salon to get mine done, and I would like to be able to do them myself. The girl I always go do does a horrible job, and it's getting way too expensive for me to keep up with it.

Yeah, there are a bunch of places that sell supplies like that. but in order to get professional nail products, you must be licensed, and be able to prove it to the company before buying any products.
But you can get the cheap stuff that really isn't any good at places like Sallie's. But they do not sell professional products there.
I would have to saythat if you have no experience, or training, then I would not try it if I were you. There are a lot of things that can go wrong doing it yourself.
If you aren't happy with your tech, find another.

Best Price for Quality Beauty Salon Supplies?

I am a booth renter and am looking for catalogues and online stores that have the best prices for quality salon supplies. Thanks for your help!

walmart salon's have the cheapest hair products!their amazing!
good luck!

Sally Beauty Supply is where they all go.

I'm opening a salon and spa supply store, I want to buy some better products in bulk. How/Where w/o license? ?

Where can I buy brand name beauty products in bulk without a cosmetology license?

You may have better luck getting the suppllies from Paul Mitchell and Pantene if you pay $10 at the Secretary of State's Office to buy a trade name. Once you have a registered trade name, i think the suppliers will ship to you in bulk..

I want to use salon grade die, what do i need to buy from the beauty supply?

I want to die my hair myself but i need to know what to get when i go to the beauty supply

I think you should just go to the supply place and ask one of the employees. They'd be better at telling you what to get than me.

Anytime I go to the supply shop and have questions I ask the people who work there....they should be able to help you there in the store.

Each brand is different some come with chemicals mixed in....others you have to buy everything seperately. Keep that in mind.

only licensed cosmetologist can buy " salon grade " color. if you know someone with license's ask them to get it and use it for you. If they get caught buying it and giving it to non licensed persons, they are risking losing their license's.

first off what is your natural color??are you going lighter or darker, adding highlights, or allover color. I would recommend something that is semi permanent, so if you don't like it, It will only last about 2-4 weeks, they also make color that fades when you shampoo

You can only buy "salon-grade" color at a professional supply house. If you're buying color anywhere else you're getting metallics and other added chemicals that are damaging to your hair. (which is why they are cheaper than salon color is) If you're looking to color your hair, it'd be best for you to either use a demi-permenant color (semi-permenant) that will fade out of your hair instead of you having to try to re-color it if you don't like the color. Pulling a dark color out of your hair can ravage it and it's not worth it!!
If you have noone to buy you professional hair color, you should pick a color that you like, (whatever the picture of the color on the box is, that color was put on white-blonde hair to get that color, so unless your hair is white-blonde, it won't be that exact shade.) When you figure out what color you like, pick the box of color that is one or two shades lighter than the box color you like. Most of the box colors will turn out much darker than the box shows (and again, they're super-hard to pull out of your hair!).
If you don't want to wreck your hair, you should have a stylist do it first and be honest with him/her, tell them you plan to do it at home the next time and have them recommend something to use that will match what they've used on you. Stylists are trained to know what color type and shades will do on your specific type of hair. If you make a mistake coloring your hair, it's not easy to get back what you started with. Good Luck!
P.S.- If you can't get true professional hair color, I'd buy Redken Shades EQ Hair color off e-bay (make sure you also purchase the developer). It's a hair color that will fade from your hair over the course of a few months, so you will return back to your natural color if the color you choose wasn't what you hoped it would be. That's what I use so if I ever decide to do something crazy, I can and I don't have to mangle my hair to get it back to the natural color I love. I just have to wash and wait a few months or pick another pretty color to try! Good Luck!

To buy anything other than at a Sally or Ricky's you must show your Cosmetology license. Also remember the trick to great hair color is only part the product- the rest is the application, formulation and timing. A professional color done improperly will also give horrible results. Best of luck to you.
