Ethnic Hair: How long should I keep a sewn in hair weave in my hair?

I just got a sewn weave the beginning of September. I used Sensational bone straight yaki style and wanted to know how long should I keep the extensions in my hair.
Also I usually get my hair relaxed, but I am trying not to do it as often because I was told that your becomes very weak after repeated use of hair relaxers. Is it best to alternate between hair extensions and hair relaxers?

I have kinky type hair and it gets very dry. I am trying to look for ways to make my hair more manageable and healthy. Is this possible for my hair type? What products should I use for my hair?

Depending on how well you take care of your weave, you should be able to keep it in for 6-8 weeks. If you feel like your weave needs to be refreshed, you can go to a stylist to have your weave tightened and washed/styled.

It is possible for your hair type to be manageable and healthy, but that depends on you, and how you take care of yourself and your hair. Start by eating healthily, drinking lots of water and getting some kind of exercise.

As far as your hair, wash and condition it once a week. Give yourself hot oil treatments and deep conditioning treatments- alternate these, with hot oil one week and deep conditioning the next week. Also use protein treatments either the week before or the week after you relax your hair. Your stylist may be able to do this for you for an extra $10-$20. Get your dead/split ends trimmed (about 1/8 of an inch) every time you get a relaxer. Use as little heat as possible because curling irons and blowdryers can be damaging if used too much. Use products that have no alcohol (or little alcohol) because it is drying. This means staying away from spritz and hairspray. Oil sheen is okay though. Stay away from mineral oil as much as possible because this clogs the pores in the scalp. Other than that, use whatever products work for you. Elasta QP, Dudleys, Keracare, Mizani, Cream of Nature, Motions and Paul Mitchell are good product lines, but you don't have to limit yourself to these lines. These are just popular brands for African American hair.

You can alternate between relaxing and weaves. The weaves will give you a break from styling and manipulating your hair too much.

Hope this helps.

yes you should put grease on your head! So it wont get as dry! You should leave your weave on 1-3 months i would prefer taking it off like in a couple of days or weeks! If its missed up now take it out!

With regular maintenance you should be able to keep the weave in for six months. Providing that you get it washed and set regularly and your beautician tightens the tracks as needed. She will also relax your hair as needed. However you should take it out when you are ready and trust me you will know when it is time.

Nutrine Garlic Conditioner- Use the one in the jar it costs about $6.99. This will make your hair super soft. Two ways to use

1. Wash your hair yourself before you going to the beauty parlor and put this in your hair. cover with plastic cap. Reason being: I like to deep condition my hair for as long as possible

2. Let your beautician apply it in put you under the dryer for 15-20 minutes,

Weave 2-3 months with proper maintenance...wash it every 1-2 weeks, let your stylist do it if weave isnt dried properly it can mold. Yea is possible with your hair... Your hair needs lots of moisture...Check out these websites....

How do you do a sewn in weave using the hair wet and wavy?

I usually wearr my hair sewn in using the remy hair straight. I seen alot of hair that has been curly and I wanted to try the curly. I want it to look real instead of like a wig. Is there a different method that is used when you sew in the culy hair? Where does your natural hair go? And how do you blend your natural hair in to mix with the curly when my natural hair is straight? What products do I use on the hair line and curly weave to keep the curls soft not hard and crunchy? Is there in people in the kansas city area that knows of someone that can do a excellent sew in weave?

there is no different methods when sewing in weave. You still have to have your real hair braided before sewing it in. at the crown, you would leave a little hair unbraided to blend in with the curls(you would curl your hair or leave it straight). To keep the hair looking its best, you just take care of it like you would your real hair.

How do you keep sewn in weave tracks from showing in the front of the head with ALL natural hair cornrowed?

Which cornrow pattern is best for a long layered sewn in weave to keep the tracks from showing after braiding ALL natural hair?

You want to do a circular pattern that goes around your head, and avoid starting any braids from the front of your head. Then you'll want to sew in the weave in a way that will allow you to have a bang.

You can also leave out some of your hair in the front, and cornrow the rest. Once you sew in the tracks, you can just blend the loose hair in with the weave. You may have to flat-iron it to make is smooth. That was you won't have to have a bang.

Good luck!

they would have to sew the hair in or do the cornrows so that the hair covers it(ie side swept bangs and such)

btw a curly weave would conceal it more than straight one

What does the net do? is it better than getting the weave sewn onto your hair in conrows?

or let me restate the question, does the netting keep the weave better looking for a longer period of time, vs, just having it sewn to the braid?

The net is really for people with hair loss or thin hair. The weave is sewn to the net when getting your hair weaved. People who uses the net that have hair, likes it because you get a flatter feeling and it lasts longer because the braids are under the net so it doesnt loosen as fast.

Only thing with that, when you have hair and you have to scratch your scalp, the net prevents you from hitting that spot lol

i dont have an answer for you...but when u find out let me know! lol thx!

How can I achieve a natural full sewn in weave look with a closure piece?

I plan to get a full sewn in weave but i want it to look natural. Last time my hair stylist used a closure piece, it was pointy and thumpy and I looked like a conehead. I was wondering if any one had any advice, techniques or other ideas that can help this style look more natural. Would net weave help?

How do you properly wash and dry a partially sewn-in weave?

Yesterday, I washed partially sewn-in weave and all of the hairs locked together sort of like dreads. I just wanted to get some information on how to wash and dry it before i get it re-done this weekend. I also need some ideas on how to style my hair. Please answer as soon as possible!!

the hairs in hair extensions dont always face the same way, so the cuticles can catch on each other and sort of mat up. before you shampoo you should make sure that the hair is combed all of it really good and when shampooing dont rub too hard that will only make it mat worse and be sure to condition it really good(unless you have the glue) and comb it very good when you are done shampooing. you can blow it dry on low with a brush dont just put the blowdryer in the hair and let it go use sections and a good brush preferably a round one but most any brush will do. try to avoid using spritz and hairspray and most gels because they dry out the hair and help it tangle. if u have straight hair in and like the flat iron using that will help keep the weave from lookin frizzy and what not and use it to blend your hair and the weave(unless u have synthetic in dont put heat on it it will melt like butter). i hope that helped a little bit if i left anything out you can message me

if there is any glue holding the weave together do not put conditioner becuase it will fall right out! That is all I can offer you besides wearing a hat unitl you can get to a salon

What's the best weft for a sewn-in weave?

Hello. After doing some research and with some help from wonderful people here at Yahoo Answers, I've decided to go with a Full Remy Hair Weave. Now, which weft is better for a sewn-in weave? Machine weft or hand tied?

Thanks!

Hand-tied wefts lays flatter to the scalp, but EXTREMELY DELICATE and will unravel if the wefts are cut and not sealed properly! Machine wefts are more durable and easy to work with and can be cut without a problem, but isn't as flat as the hand-tied wefts.

You may want to spend some time checking out my source. It's everything about weaves, Remy, wefts, etc. It's a great website that allows people to post questions & answers specifically about black hair. Good luck with your weave, I'm sure it will be beautiful.
