Vermont Resorts Keep Skiing Cheap for College Students First Tracks

“CVC and Ski Vermont share a passion for providing high quality, transformative experiences, whether on campus or in Vermont’s mountains, said Nate Ball from Vermont Technical College and chairman of the consortium’s promotions committee.

“Vermont’s colleges and mountains make a positive and a lasting impression in the minds and hearts of our students and visitors.”

Killington appreciates that scholars put down the books once in a while (every powder day) to study the positive psychological impacts of carving, jibbing, bumping and grinding. The central Vermont resort offers a $329 season pass to college students. Those looking to eat more than ramen noodles this winter should consider becoming a campus rep for Killington to sell passes, promote the resort and make some cash.

For those seeking a place to call home that’s a short drive from New York and Mass. and has challenging, diverse terrain, Magic Mountain Ski Area in southern Vermont is an A+. Full time college students can ski or ride all season for $149 with no restrictions.

Ski resort?

If Bull (S)hit were snow Washington, DC would be a ski resort

That is for sure.
Washington D.C. is itself a joke. They sure don't work for the people, but for themselves, lobbyists, and big businesses.

i think you could have a point there

when i will understand i will reply

hee hee

I don't get it.

lol

Nah! The Snowfall would always be too heavy for skiing.

What is the Best Ski Resort to stay at in New England?

My boyfriend, another couple and i are planning on going away over New Years Eve. We want to stay at a ski resort and be able to ski. We are two young couples and would like to have things around us to go do. We were thinking of Loon in NH but not reconsidering. Are there any suggestions on what mountain and resort and if there are things to go close by. Thank You!

It depends. Killington is awesome. They've got 200 trails and a plethora of places to stay. On the downside, its very expensive. I ski almost every weekend in the winter. Until last winter, I skied at Killington. The resort was sold and the new company raised the prices of everything. We buy season passes and my parents said that they were too expensive.

If you aren't looking to spend a ton of money, Okemo is good. This is where I skied last winter and will be going there again this winter. They have 117 trails. The lift tickets are a little bit cheaper here. Okemo is ranked number 2 in grooming in the east. I think(but don't quote me on this) they have 98% snowmaking. If its cold, they will blow snow everynight. On the downside, it is a little bit of an easier mountain than Killington. Don't get me wrong...they do have some steeps, just not as many as Killington. Also, there aren't a ton of places to stay, so the motels in Ludlow do book up fast. If you are going there, make your reservation ASAP! Have fun!!!!

Have you considered Killington in Vermont? It's huge and there's usually entertainment there at night.

definitely vermont--those are the classic new england ski resorts...
killington area is great..--you can choose between okemo mountain or killington to ski--killington is widely known as the apres ski capital of the northeast, lots of quaint towns nearby to explore (woodstock) with shopping, Long Trail brewery is nearby,

or you can go to Stowe--you can either ski Stowe or Smugglers Notch, Stowe is amazing by the way but expensive, stowe is a quintessential new england town, Burlington is about 45 minutes away, Ben & Jerrys factory tour is nearby, plus many quaint towns with dairy/maple farms, shopping, etc...

..skip new hampshire, Vermont ski areas are way better

Definately go to Killingon, by far they have the best nightlift and skiing in New England. Killington Grand Resort is beautiful but somewhat expensive... other nice hotels are Mountain Green Resort & Inn at Six Mountains. You will not be dissapointed. There's also shuttles that cart you around all night long!

At a local Ski resort the high temperature during January is -?

At a Local ski resort, the daytime high temperature is normally
distributed during January, with a mean of 22F and a standard
deviation of 10F You are planning to ski there this Jan. What is the probability of (a) 42F or higher? (b)15F or lower? (c) between 29F and 40F?

yeah that happens all the time at the ski resort I go to. Usually by knight time it is cold enough for the resort to make more snow. Just be careful when you ski by night time when the temperature drops and the slush or softened snow turns to ice. I almost broke my knee because of loss of control.

What is the best ski resort in Northern California for beginners and children?

I would like to learn how to ski but I'm not sure which resort would be the best for me. I also have a young child (5 years) so I would want to stay somewhere where there are plenty of things for kids to do. I also am interested in resorts that provide child care for parents to enjoy the evenings alone. Do any of them have clubs or bars?

Shasta is a nice quiet little resort. Good for beginners but not a full service place. there is no lodging at the resort and the town dies down quick at night.

If you are looking for easy one stop, everything in one place and money is no object Squaw Valley - Tahoe has it all - For a price. The village is huge for Tahoe and has restaurants and clubs galore. It's a little yuppie and the prices are crazy - but it has it all. I'm not a big fan of the mountain thought.

Northstar at Tahoe is a mini Squaw and for beginners is the best family place for the buck. They are expanding the village and have a more more moderate terrain for beginners than Squaw. The accommodations are pricey but it is also full service - OK night life too.

Heavenly, Tahoe
It's were I learnt to ski. We stay at Lake Tahoe in the Embassy Suites. There's a drive to the ski slopes but it's worth it
As for your young child, first went there when i was about four! It's really good, the ski school is brilliant for young beginners
x

Heavenley [in tahoe] is great but very expensive. some other great resorts in tahoe are serria at tahoe and mt rose.

Heavenly is a nice family Mountain with great views.

Stay at Harveys..Sweet place to stay..

I assume you mean in Tahoe.

I would stay in Truckee. It's an adorable little town with great restaurants and shops (a.k.a. nightlife).

When I learned to ski (age ~8) I went to Donner Ski Ranch. Nothing much for pros there, only bunny hills and beginner trails.

What is the best ski resort for couples in Pennsylvania?

I would like to go skiing to celebrate my birthday in February. Which ski resort is best for couples who are beginners? Also we would like to go tubing and snowboarding if possible. Thanks in advance.

In the Poconos, I recommend Big Boulder/Jack Frost. But you may also enjoy Blue Mountain (one of my all-time favorites), Camelback or a little farther north, Montage Mountain.

Shawnee Mountain, Camelback

A co worker just went to the poconos with her dude and they had a ball. she told me they did all that snowboarding and tubing.

What is the best ski resort and lodging place in Lake Tahoe?

My friends and I are planning a trip to Lake Tahoe this winter for snowboarding. I was wondering if anyone knows which ski resort is the best. Also, where is the best place to lodge.

On the north shore Squaw is probably the best overall and on the south shore it's probably Heavenly. That being said there are lots of other great options depending on whether you're a family, a beginner an expert etc.

I'm actually more partial to Kirkwood which is outside of the Tahoe Basin and staying at their lodge is great.

Accommodations depend on whether you want a hotel or a lodge or to rent a cabin. There are some great cabins for rent right by most ski slopes which eliminates the travel problem.

Try a variety or ask a local once you get up there what they recommend. Most people around Tahoe are extremely helpful.

Oh and on the north shore, there are some nice places in Truckee.

well, it really depends on your level of snowboarding. for beginners, there is a nice, not crowded family resort called donner ski ranch. then, for intermediate snowboarders, sugar bowl is probably really good. for advanced, defininatly heavenly or squaw valley. night skiing would be @ boreal. i'm not quite sure about the good lodges since everytime that i head up to tahoe, i just stay @ the lodge of the ski resort. one downside to that is that they don't normally have a continental breakfast included.

squaw valley is a great mountain, near truckee. so is heavenly, on the south shore. but If you are into steep and fun kirkwood is your place, a short 30 minutes away from south shore. homewood is a boarder friendly moantain also it is on the west sore of the lake close to tahoe city. as for lodgeing if you have enough people it might be cost effective to rent a cabin or condo. just search for ski rentals in lake tahoe.

What is the BEST ski resort in Vermont and when is the best time to go?

I am planning a ski vacation this winter and I chose the state of vermont to be my destination. I need some advice though about which resort and when in the season. I went to Magic Mountain last year in the middle of a snow storm and I thought i was in heaven. This year im not so sure i'll be timing a snow storm so well so i may as well plan a little more.

Hop on a plane and go out west.

Killington is probably the biggest in vermont, further North is Jay Peak which reportedly has the most snow and powder (because of it's location and geography) . It is in northern vermont, almost in canada.

Stowe is beautiful-
so is Von Trapp Lodge ( sound of Music family)
contact local Chamber of Commerce for more info on places and best ski dates

The nice thing about Vermont is all the areas are so close, you can get a place in central Vermont and ski as many places as you want. When I lived in NY, I would drive to Vermont every snow storm. I got tired of the driving, so I moved to Utah. Now it is just 30 minutes up a canyon to the greatest snow on earth.

Concerning VT, don't go to Killington. The other person mentioned Stowe. That place is ok...lots of good terrain, but a tourist trap to be sure.

Good places: Jay Peak, Bolton Valley, and Mad River. If you don't mind scootching over to NY, Gore is a really nice area as well, not too terribly far away.

Have fun! I always called VT the little west. It sure is great in the winter.

Mid-season is always a sure bet for snow. Feb, or early March.

Personally I like Gore mountain in NY better then the mountains in Vermont maybe it's cause i get in free but I just like it there. Its not to far away from vermont, but its a tiny town so if you stay there all you can really do is ski and thats about it.

Best is highly subject to interpretation!
Stratton has the best grooming.
Bromley is best on very cold days because of its southern exposure.
Okemo and Mt. Snow are best for convenience. They're easy to get to, being in the southern part of VT.
Stowe has the best steeps.
Pico Peak is best for avoiding crowds and seperating me from my right ACL.
Killington is probably best for bumps, definitely best for nightlife and probably the best for lifts which they need because they're the worst for crowds.
Smugglers Notch is best for families.

Smuggler's Notch is very family-friendly.

Killington is a tourist trap.

Jay Peak is good but in the north. Being northern, you can be on colder temperatures and better snow accumulation and making though.

Stowe is another expensive tourist trap.

Bolton is where the local schools tend to send kids for field trips due to their affordable rates.

Snow fall varies from year to year. Last year in my area (just slightly north of Burlington on the lake) we got good snow in November and then the rest of the year fizzled out. Usually, the heavier snow falls are in February. January tends to be very icy with dry snow fall. (I've seen it reach 20 below for a week straight, barely climbing out of the negatives in the day.

November snow fall can be iffy - some years we get it and some we don't. December can be the same way.

What part of Southern California still has snow? Any suggestions for a good ski resort?

Two of my friends are planning something for the weekend, and one of them had ski trip on their mind! Any suggestions for ski resorts?
We live in the Long Beach area, by the way? What's the farthest ski resort? What's the closest?

Big Bear is a great resort. It is about a 2 hour drive from L.B.
I live in Garden Grove and it is 2 hours on a good day. Be careful of black ice. It is better to go up in the afternoon or evening so the black ice gets a chance to thaw out. There are lots of places to stay and a motel 6 if your budget is restricted.
Mammoth is about 5 hours away. It is a great place! Expensive compared to BB. Lift ticket is about $78 compared to BB at $51.00. Accommodations will run about $70-80 apiece.
The biggest hang=up right now is the weather. They have had about 10 straight days of snow. I was there last weekend. Saturday was great, Sunday was snow and blizzard conditions in the afternoon and they closed the mountain.
It is a great place with all kinds of terrain but the weather is the big factor.
If you want something for the day like mentioned by one of the other answers is Baldy or Mountain High.
Have a great time and be careful! Wear a helmet!

What is the nearest mountain or ski resort from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland?

I'll be going on a very short visit to Switzerland this 1st week of November & will stay mainly within the vicinity of the University of Fribourg. What is the nearest mountain or ski resort that I could visit where I can have a good experience of the Swiss alps?

Never been, but this looks nice:

http://www.fribourgregion.ch/en/navpage.cfm?category=WinterFR&subcat=SkiSnowboardFR&id=301265

less than an hour away, even by bus.

What's the best ski resort for my honeymoon?

My girlfriend and I are getting married later this year and would like to go on a ski trip for our honeymoon - it'll be from boxing day for about 10 nights. What's the best resort (worldwide) for such an occasion? We would like something picturesque with as much chance of snow as possible. Also, can anyone recommend the best hotel to stay in - money (for once) no object.

How about Kranjska Gora or Maribor? Both are in Slovenia.
