Take care to ward off those winter skin woes Columbia Daily Tribune

Dry winter air leads to dry winter skin, and our responses to the cold can exacerbate the situation.

“People turn on their furnaces, so the air gets drier. People take hotter showers, so that really hot water tends to suck the moisture out of your skin as well. And then people are cold, so they want to hurry up and put their clothes on without putting on their moisturizers,” said Kimberly Cayce, a dermatologist at DeSpain Cayce Dermatology Center and Medical Spa.

But there are things we can do to counteract these problems.

The first thing to do is be mindful of how we clean up.

Because soap dries the skin, Cayce recommends a mild, nonsoap cleanser such as Cetaphil, Cerave or Dove. She also recommends showering in tepid water, which is less drying than hot water.

“Immediately once you get out of the bath or shower, gently pat yourself dry and then really lube up with a good moisturizing cream. The heavier, thicker creams tend to work best in the winter,” Cayce said.

skin cleanser.?

my skin is so dry lately. i just bought cetaphil cleanser hoping it would work but it still dries my face out. im guessing because there is alcohol in the ingredients. any advice on what type of cleanser would work best?
i use moisturizer afterwards (olay total effects) my skin just feels dry and tight.

Cetaphil was actually recommended by my dermatologist because it was very mild. But if it doesn't work for you, try Neutrogena, Clinique, or Estee Lauder. Those works for me when my skin was really dry.
For my sister it was ROC cleanser that does the job, the 3-in-1 cleanser.
Hope any of those works for you.

I use clean and clear

After using the facial cleanser, use moisturizer to prevent your skin from getting dry

I use Loreal 'ideal balance'. My mother told me a secret that if you rinse a little water on your cotton wool and then poor your cleanser then your skin gets extra hydration. I have been doing this for years and I think it helps.. I have tried tons of things as far as concerned facial cleansing and this seemes the only way to make me feel totally clean. Hope I helped!! :)

Neutrogena:
The Wave

Neutrogena products in general work really well. I used Clean and Clear, but it dried my face out.

use foudation evry tim

What is a really good skin cleanser and a moisturizer for combination/sensitive skin?

I really need a new face cleanser and moisturizer to help give me a clear, fresh faced, toned skin look. I have combination/sensitive skin, and also I need something that isn't too expensive. If i could go out and buy Elizabeth Arden I would but i cant!
What are some cheaper face products that will really help my skin? I don't have bad acne or really dry skin, but it just looks kind of uneven, dull, blotchy, and my pores are big.

These are cheap and good quality cleansers that I've tried:
I used St. Ives Apricot Scrub and it made my skin a lot smoother looking and even. They make one for sensitive skin too. If you want to use this scrub, also get a normal cleanser(not a scrub) to go with it. You shouldn't use a scrub more than twice a week, because too much exfoliation isn't good for your skin. So, you can look at St. Ives' products...
You could also try Clean and Clear Morning Burst(yeah, I know it says morning but use it whenever, it's a good product), it makes your skin feel really refreshed and smooth. Clean and Clear also makes some great moisturizers too.

So, these are my favorite cheaper products. They work well and smell good too. lol. :)
I hope I helped!

checks and balances from Origins. $18
made especially for combination skin.

moisterizers that i use are Clinique--- Dramatic Difference Lotion $24
and Origins--- Night a Mins. $36

Clean and Clear works I PROMISE you.

i like estee lauder "ideal" but it's a good $115...

i recommend burt's bees products. they are almost all natural.
do not get clean and clear moisturizer in the purple bottle. it burns sensitive skin.

i to have sensitive skin an i was recommended by a docton to use cetaphil fash wash which can be from 8-13$
then to mouisturize use eucerin wit sp15 or just plain eucerin which goes for 5-10$ depending on bottle size. hope this helps

Cetaphil products are well priced and are less than half the cost of high range brand names like Elizabeth Arden. They have a range for different types of skin, paticularly sensitive skin (like mine), which you can purchase at chemist/drugstores and online.

Good products for sensitive skin would be Cetaphil, Purpose, and Neutrogena (be careful with WHAT you get from them... their gel cleansers are harsh for my skin, but their cream cleansers are amazing)

For the daytime, get at least an SPF 25 moisturizer. For night, get a moisturizer that balances your skin (controls oil, but moisturizes the dry spots)

How often do you use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser?

I have sensitive acne-prone skin. I just bought Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and am trying to find out how often to use it. I always moisturize in the morning and at night after I wash my face with anything. Should I use it twice a day, in the morning and at night, or only in the morning and follow up with a different product at night? And if I should follow up with a different product, what should I use?

I have the same type of skin as you. Follow the instructions on the bottle nd use it twice daily, morning and night. Follow with moisturiser - just make sure it doesn't have oil in it.

I have used it twice daily, since my skin is oily I really don't
need a moisturizer.

Is cetaphil gentle skin cleanser liquid the same as cetaphil gentle skin cleanser bar soap?

I was wondering because I have used both. The bar soap makes me feel cleaner but it dissolves way to quickly. (within a 1 week and 3 days) The liquid gentle skin cleanser however doesnt even foam and the directions say you can use it with water and without water... So i'm confused. Am I supposed to use them both or something?

The liquid is much more gentle although it still works. You have to be careful it doesn't make your skin too oily though.. The bar soap gets rid of the oil at the same time.

I use the liquid for makeup remover. It works really well and it doesn't burn my eyes at all.

What's the best combination skin cleanser out there?

Im looking for something I could buy at Walmart, i'll spend up to 12 dollars on it. I need a good cleanser I can use twice a day for my oily/dry skin.
Have any ideas?

"JOHNSON'S® HEAD-TO-TOE®
Baby Wash"

-- cheap and easy to find
-- de-greases, but doesn't dry your skin out at all
-- non-irritating
-- soapless
-- lathers and rinses well
-- not heavily perfumed
-- removes make-up
-- less advertising (so, less $) than a lot of the junk out there

They also make it in a disposable washcloth thingamajig:

http://www.johnsonsbaby.com/products/bath/johnsonshead-to-toewashcloths

Every generic version I've tried has been pretty much identical, too.

Just never use Neutrogena!! Clean and Clear is really good...and in your price range. Also check out their moisturizers for your skin type. Apply at night.

I'd asked your doctor about what kind to use.You may need a certain kind. Some products do more harm than good.

Clearasil is great. Also use an astringent for the oily places. And use the SPF 15 to 20 everyday.

I use Ponds cold cream cleanser, get the cucumber one it isn't as thick and greasy and rinses off or washes off w/ a washcloth, gets all makeup etc. I have tried other cleansers even other Ponds and I break out, but the Cucumber cold cream is the one I go back to. I do use the moisturizer too, (the jar is the same shape as the cold cream w/ a blue top) and I have combination skin too.

What is a good skin cleanser?

I have a couple zits that are some what big, also are a little red. I need some tips on what kind of skin cleanser AND other ways to stay away from "zit city!" Plz Help Me!

Noxzema Triple Clean.

read tips on treating acne, skincare and home remedies on this site

witchhazel

cetaphil

for sensitive skin... try Cetaphil.

other than that, i've liked Clearisil Ultra.... stay away from St. Ives Apricot scrub stuff.....

try putting some honey on top of the zits for about an hour or so before u go to bed... or if u can stand it, try spreading a thin layer of honey all over ur face every night before u go to bed, wake up and wash it off w/ warm water. honey is a natural anti-bacterial, and bacteria is what makes ur acne grow. try not to roll around when u sleep, it gets Sticky! put a towel over ur pillow.

good luck~

proactive or dermaloica (you buy it at a salon, or try a beauty school)

As a woman who has dealt with adult ance I have found that Boire products work the best It has really cleared my skin and I haven't had a out break in over six months. I tried everything even Proactive but Boire works for me.

When I was in high school I was zit city as well. I found Pro Active and it saved me. 'That stuff is the shitz.' Trust me on this one! It can be some what pricey but it is worth the money. If you are not an adult then ask your parents to help you. If not then maybe someone else can help you. If not then try washing your face with just warm water and a cloth. Sometimes soap can irritate the skin.
Good Luck

I have relatively bad skin, and in the morning i use St Ives apricot exfoliator (for acne/oily skin) and at night before i go to bed I use St Ives clear pore cleanser. It works very well on my face and my skin is usually clear for the day and night.
Make sure EVERYTHING your face touches is very very clean.

clean & clear works really well, use the clean & clear deep cleanser followed with the pink astringent.

I use proactive it works great on my skin. I have used catephil and Mary Kay but none of them work as well. You can get it at the mall or go to their website. It cost about $40 dollars for the whole set but it is worth it to me and you can try it for $20 if it is your first time.

Depends on how much you want to spend.
Zits occur because of microbes eating excess amounts of oil on you skin and in your oil ducts. If you scrub off all of your oil, your oil ducts produce even more.
What works for me and my 3 girls is we wash our face with a mild soap or cetaphil like cleanser, dry, then apply either triple antibiotic or neosporin VERY lightly to our whole face before we go to bed at night. This will wash off in the shower or when you wash your face in the morning. Once you get it under control, use a very light moisturizer. The moisturizer will tell your oil glands that they do not need to produce more oil and lessen break outs. Sometimes if the break out is very bad, my daughter uses a cleanser with Salicylic Acid in it before applying the antibacterial salve. Salicylic acid will degrease you face, but it has a drying effect, so if you don't use the antibiotic salve, use a light moisturizer (one that says its light and has emollients).
The name brand really doesn't matter. You can buy EQUATE (Wal Mart) products, like their Creamy Facial Cleanser and their antibiotic salves and creams for a third or less of the branded products. Or you can pick up more expensive moisturizers from Ponds, Noxema, or Loreal to name a few of the thousands out there.
Good luck and don't stress. We all get zits, stressing over it makes it worse.. Know they will not last forever and they won't, have faith.

For acne, the best product I have found is Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash. It is a bit drying though, so the best moisturizer is Clean and Clear Oil-Free Oxygenating Facial Moisturizer. Also, if you cannot shower immediately after you work out, use an astringent like Sea Breeze Actives Clear Pore Astringent. The cleanser and Astringent are available at CVS, and the moisturizer is available at Target.

I have average skin, but when i was younger i would break out a lot. I went to my dermatoligist and he asked what i used to wash my face and i told him that i used...clearisil, or clean and clear, or nertrogina, or any of those other face washes. He told me to stop and that those arent really beneficial. He told me that he always tells his patients (he ihas been practicing for like 60 years) to use plain old Ivory soap. I have used it for 6 years now and my skin has returned to normal. Its not too harsh like those cleansers, and not TOO light like cetaphil (which is useless). Then i ALWAYS moisturize after and Viola...totally normal skin.

I got all of my friends and family hooked onto ivory soap. It is the cheapest, but the best thing.

ALSO...using St. Ives apricot cleanser ONLY TWICE a week is good too. Using it anymore than twice a week is useless since your skin takes several days to develop some dead skin for you to exfoliate off.

Forget Proactiv. It works good at first and then it backfires, leaving your face worse than ever. A cleanser alone is not going to clear you up, so don't rely on just a cleanser. Purpose Gentle Cleanser is a great choice, in my opinion. I use it and it's been great. But you have to medicate your skin afterwards. I would try Neutrogena On The Spot. Just put a little bit on each pimple in the morning and evening. That should clear you up. If that doesn't work, I would see a dermatologist.

Acne or blemish-prone skin is a remarkably common skin condition. While many adolescents may experience acne, this condition also can appear for the first time in adults in their 20s or 30s or even later in life. Generally, however, if you had acne as a teenager, you are more likely to have it again as an adult. Eighty to 100 percent of all teenagers have acne to some degree, and an increasing number of adult women also have some acne.
Acne Treatment Gel† and Blemish Control Toner Formula 3 who
have mild or occasional acne. Some results may be seen within days, but a majority of users will experience the maximum reduction in acne lesions after using the product for eight weeks or more. Limit the number of layers ofcosmetics products they apply and to avoid any products containing oil.

Excessive scrubbing or frequent cleansing will not control it, and any rough manipulation of the skin may further irritate and inflame the lesions or even lead to the formation of new acne lesions.

Mary Kay offers a variety of oil free cleansers that will help. If you go to www.marykay.com/kaylexasmom you will find them under the skin care portion as well as information on the main page. You can also request samples for any products you want to try.

Good luck.

Eye-drops remove the redness, whether you apply make-up or not afterwards.
Milk powder or baking soda mixed with water are great cleansers, after removing make-up. Follow up with a mild cream or aloe vera.
Toothpaste applied to zits and left on overnight, can dry them out.

Keep your gut and liver clean. Avoid processed or fatty foods. Get a little exercise five days a week.

Use tomato puree as a 15-minute mask, in the evening, once a week - as a natural AHA treatment. Do moisturise afterwards.

Any thing that has tea tree oil in it as a main ingredient. Tea Tree oil kills the bacteria that forms itself into a pimple and continues to treat your skin. It is not drying and is recommended for all hair types. Burts Bee has a great Tea Tree Oil Blemish stick for sale. You can buy it online or at health food stores. It worked like a miracle on my skin!

I use Clearisil Ultra Daily Face Wash. My skin has cleared up amazingly fast. You may want to put Benzyl peroxide on it.(it's a cream that dries up those zits) OR you might want to use daily cleansing wipes available from neutrogena.

I went to a Clinique counter in a department store about a year ago and a had a skin analysis done.

Since I have been using their products I havn't had 1 pimple on my face, I swear.

My skin always feels great.

BE PREPARED FOR A LONGGGGGG ANSWER!! :D

my suggestion is to use more gentler products. I used to use harsh products for acne that are all medicated but too much of these medicines are way too harsh for ur skin. One or two is fine though. I’ve used stuff from proactive, acnefree, medicated cleansers, expensive department store stuff like sheseido, differin, duac, etc. none of them worked very well for me. Most of them made my skin worse.

i have oily, acne-prone skin too. and i used to have a scatter of pimples all along my forehead too. but now it stopped and currently i only have two tiny whiteheads on my chin (barely noticeable).

But I have some acne scars on my cheeks and, thank goodness, they are actually fading away in a reasonable pace. i also, have some rough patches on my skin leftover from acne scars but they are becoming as soft as the rest of my skin with help from my skin products.

i tried the neutrogena acne mark fading peel. that didn't do anything for me at all... except maybe exfoliate my skin (and kinda irritated it too cuz my skin turns all red when i wash it away).

bottom line: its expensive and does not work.

i read some people's reviews on it online and it didn't work on them either.

so i stopped using that and started using some new products... and my acne scars are amazingly slowly fading away! i dont noe which product is doing this- it could be all of them!

for the dark marks (acne marks), use AMBI skin lightening cream sold at drugstores, target, walmart, etc. for around $4.99. IMPORTANT: only put the cream DIRECTLY on the scar and the scar only! if u just spread it all over a certain part of ur face, it will turn into a blotchy mess and will take a while for it to return to ur normal skin color!

Here are the products I am currently using that has been treating my skin like a miracle:

cleanse with morning burst cleanser by clean and clear in the morning and oxygenating fizzing cleanser at night (also by clean and clear). use cooling daily pore toner by clean and clear and do not use an astringent which will strip away natural oils and cause ur face to produce more oil than needed.

use an oil-free moisturizer with spf 15 and above for day. use dual action moisturizer by clean and clear for night.

use persa-gel 10 for breakouts and pimples.

and use a clay mask containing sulfur once or twice a week (more on days of breakouts). try queen helene mint julep masque. or proactive refining mask. U can also spottreat and dab on a spot of it directly on ur pimples without rubbing it in. just dab lightly! and leave it on overnight. it should become smaller, less red, less noticeable, or disapear completely the next morning.

exfoliate with the Neutrogena invigorating foaming scrub only once a week.

If u use makeup, use only oil-free and water-based foundation (but I suggest u not use foundation at all because oil-free or not, it will clog ur pores), and oil-free powder and concealer. Try getting one that contains acne-fighting ingredients (look at some Neutrogena products).

DO NOT use toothpaste or deodorant or any of those weird "remedies"!! they are only myths and will only ruin ur skin condition even more! stick with things that are MEANT for ur face.

Also, after I washed my pillow and blankets (that I hadn’t washed for a few weeks), my skin stopped breaking out so much everytime I wake up in the morning. I realized that wherever I put my face on the pillow, I wake up the next morning with a huge red pimple right on that spot where my face was on the pillow! So wash it every week or as much as possible. And also wash ur towel. Don’t use a washcloth because it collects bacterias everytime u wipe ur face with it and it gets all over ur skin… unless u wash it after every single time u use it. Instead use tissue paper, toilet paper, or paper towels to blot ur face dry.

i hope that helps! :]

try Kanebo naive facial cleansing foam - green tea. You can find it in any Asia Supermarket. It's only around $5 but it cleans oil skin really well. It can also remove makeup, blackheads...

Go to acne.org and order the Clear Skin Regimen cleanser...IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

ITS INCREDIBLE.

eve lom excellent http://www.evelom.co.uk/ prob best cleanser ever eventually gets rid of spots completly

Okay, I have always had great skin. You must drinks lots of water!! thats the first secret, dont use those anti zip creams!! Wash your face with warm water, then with cold water, I like to wash my face in the shower. Dont wash your face to much. Twice a day is fine. Stay away from bad food, oily food. Orange Juice is good for the skin. Three face cleaners I like to use. First one is Zoxzema, next one is a product called Witch, it has vitimin E with witch hazel. I do dont use soap. The last one I like to use is oatmeal, thats right. get some oats, put them in cold water, then put the oats on your face, the oats will soak up the oil in your skin, but it wont soak up to much. I tryed cat litter one time, but it made my skin to dry. Makeup is also bad for the skin :( sorry to tell you that. It clogs the pores. One last product I like to use is nose cleaner strips, they work very well in keeping you nose area clean and smooth. Any other Questions, email me at infuse2006@aol.com Take care my Love

Warm water
If bad:
warm water, with white bread, and baking soda

lava soap or any other soap that is gritty, it helps to clean the pores out even better than regular soap

My favorite is called AcneFree, i get mine at Costco, but i think you can also get smaller bottles at target.

You can compare it to Proactiv, I HATE PROACTIV! It doesn't work 4 me! I also use the Netragina stuff in the morning

Your first and foremost step towards your skin protection and acne treatment should be to wash it thoroughly in the night before going to sleep with a facial cleanser. Soaps should be avoided as they may cause irritation on your skin. Cleansers are useful because they help your skin to heal itself while you are sleeping

Acne cleansers contain benzoyl peroxide or salicyic acid in order to fight pimples. The best treatment is cleansing the skin with a benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid cleanser, applying an alphy hydroxy, and finally using a toner.

It is recommended that cleanser must be used gently with soft hands and scrubbing must be avoided in order to prevent irritation and reddishness. Acne Cleansers are thick and rich like yogurt and leaves a very creamy and silky effect on the face. It makes you feel fresh and bright throughout the day. Some acne cleansers have a very light medicinal scent fragrance, which is not at all unpleasant. Acne Cleansers must be shaken before use and applied in the form of massage onto your face in circular motions. When applied these cleansers also produce foams and bubbles, which leaves a very refreshing effect on the skin.

To prevent acne and acne scars use cleanser once at night but avoid cleansers with alcohol, which will leave your skin dry and dehydrated.

by far...and trust me i had acne and now i dont for a year so far...

i use anything with the little beads in it to wash my face and then i put astrogin (think thats how you spell it) on my face with a cotton ball and let it dry. then a light (baby lotion) lotion and go to sleep. morning and night i do this.

The problem is, you are going out and buying these cleansers and things, and you don't know what the ingredients will do to your skin. I have had the same problem, so eventually, i went to the doctor, and i didn't realize how much they could help. They gave me medication, one to put directly on my skin, and one in pill form, and now i literally have no trace of a pimple. I would highly recommend seeing your doctor, because acne is not just normal pimples you can treat with normal products, it is a condition that you need to use medication for if you want it to go away. I hope this helps. x

Acne Free works great I had really bad acne and had tried alot of them out there and they broke me out more But acne free works

This may sound funny, but I'm being serious:-
Mix pure, freshly squeezed strawberry juice with water, so that there is 1/4 strawberry juice and 3/4 water and wash your face with that. After you have done that, cleanse your face again with just water. Do this once a day as a daily routine and you will see a difference. It really works, I do it every other week.
Hope this helps. :)

Neosporin.

For oily skin with acne try fresh tomato puree - it will remove the excessive oil and soothe the inflammation.Log on to http://tipsfromruby-acne.blogspot.com/ for a few home made tips to heal acne .

What is the best skin cleanser?

I have kind of dry skin, but i tend to sometimes get small acne breakouts also. What is a good skin cleanser for acne that doesn't dry out your skin too much? I use cetaphil and it doesn't work very well. Ive never tried clean and clear, does it work? Also what do you recommend?

First off proactive does not work... dont waste your money. Saint Ives apricot scrub works really well. It exfoliates getting rid of dead skin

Whats A Good Skin Cleanser That Helps Get Rid Of Acne Fast?

Ive tried alot of different cleansers, i havent quite yet found one that works. Im aiming for clear skin for the summer. And i really need help, any suggestions on what i should do.
Im a fourteen year old girl btw.

I was having problems with my skin last year. At the suggestion of a dermatologist I switched all my make-up, cleansers and moisturizers to Neutrogena. It has been a huge improvement! Not only is my skin clearer the tone and texture are improved.
The website is awesome you can check out all the different products. There is even a section for self evaluation that can help find which products are right products for you.
You can find Neutrogena just about everywhere and the prices a reasonable.
Good luck I know how frustrating this can be!

Should I use a skin bleaching cleanser after getting a tan?

I got a tan after I went out without putting sunscreen. My skin has gotten a couple shades darker. Should I use a skin bleaching cleanser to bring back my natural skin color? Are there any risks associated with skin bleaching products? Has anyone ever used a certain skin bleaching cleanser that worked?

bleaching cleansers are only on your skin for a few moments (you wash them off) so they're not going to work well. and yes there are tons of risks with bleaching products (except if you're going with natural;pineapple, yogourt, cuccumber; no risks there) as they are higly toxic and carcinogenic. for more info on it go to this website and type in your product :cosmeticsdatabase.com

Best Cleanser for Dry Skin 2011

When looking for a cleanser for your dry skin you are looking for something that will cleanse all dirt and grime without stripping off your natural oils. You will want to choose a milky cleanser. If your skin is very dry then use the cleanser during the night and in the morning avoid washing your face with cleanser and just splash your face with water.

Here is the list for best facial cleansers for dry skin

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

A very gentle and effective cleanser, great for all skin type but highly recommended for those people with sensitive or dry skin. It is designed by dermatologist so you know, it is gentle for your skin.

pHisoderm Deep Cleaning Cream Cleanser

This cleanser is great for cleaning off make-up and gentle enough for dry skin. Its pH balance and is alcohol and soap free

Avene Essentials Gentle Milk Cleanser

This is a no-rinse formula which you use a cotton pad to wipe off dirt, make-up and grease. This is fantastic as a gentle make-up remover.
