Tips for a water-safe summer insideTORONTO.com

Each time you board your boat for a day on the lake, make sure you are prepared.

Prior to launching your boat, consult your boating checklist. The following tips can be found at www.smartboater.ca

- Make sure that your boat is mechanically sound and that you have enough gas for your intended voyage with some in reserve.

- File a sail plan or itinerary to help search and rescue find you in the event of an emergency.

- Wear a properly fitted personal flotation device (PFD) or life jacket.

The law requires boaters have one Canadian-approved PFD or life jacket of an appropriate size for every person on board. Pay special attention to your children's PFDs. These should be selected by size and weight and have collars to keep children's heads up in the water, a handle on the collar to lift them and a safety strap so the PFD does not slide up over their head.

You might also look into the new lines of inflatable PFDs. These recently approved devices, are lightweight, comfortable and cool in the summer's heat, but must be worn while underway to qualify as an approved PFD.

How do you unlatch the latches keeping the cover on a CalSpa spa?

I know...this sounds like a really dumb question...I got a used spa (excellent, barely used condition!) from a garage sale and cannot figure out how to unlatch the plastic latches holding the spa cover down. They seem like they should just squeeze and unlatch, but they won't.

I've tried looking for instruction manuals showing how to unlatch the cover, but no luck.

If anyone can tell me how to unhook the latches, or can find an operating manual for a 2003 Balboa Fiesta CalSpa, I qould be VERY appreciative.

Thanks!
Thanks Jim!! There just so happened to be a little black plastic "key" in the bag of miscellaneous parts. The cover latch came off with no problems!!! Yay :)

Now all i need is an operating manual found online somewhere.

Some latches lock, and you need a key to open them. Great for keeping the kids out the spa. You may need to lube them with some soapy water or just cut them off

where i can find quality safe spa cover?

i'm a hot tub ,spa dealer in U.K ,looking for some covers, quality and safe ones to sell with the products ,pls suggest any useful resources.

how many you need? if for bulks ,says 25 or more per time ,you could try hanleather company,it makes custom size spa covers, high end and safe ones, which $50-$120 cheaper than market price.if interested ,u could check out the link i got below.

how to disenfect a spa cover?

My hot tub cover seems to be making my spa smell. The cover is old but not water logged. What can I do to disinfect the cover? I do not see the need to buy a new one since it is in ok shape.

the cover is affected by whatever the water chemistry is. if you do not treat your water correctly then the cover absorbs the smell. if you use natural chemistry the smell will eventually go away ! the 1st chemical you should use is called sodium dichlor 2 oz for 5 to 6 hundred gallons of water to sanitize your water. use this instead of the tablets in a lil blue and white floater. the smell you have is incorrectly treated water !
the sodium dichlor is not as acidic as the calcium hypo chloride that you might be using or the bromine tabs.

try vinegar and bleach with orange scented pine sol and hand held deck style brush it worked for me

This is not an uncommon problem for people that are NOT using either chlorine or bromine as their PRIMARY sanitizer. If using chlorine or bromine, generally the natural off-gassing that penetrates into the cover will keep is clean of mildew and other growths. If using something else, or at this point, you're going to have to clean and sanitize the inside of the cover. Unzip the cover and gently pull out the foam cores. Be VERY careful not to puncture the plastic wrap covering as this is what prevents them from absorbing moisture. Turn the vinyl inside out. Mix up some bleach and water, about a 10 to 1 ratio (1 part bleach). Wipe everything down with the mixture (cores and inside of the vinyl). Keep it moist for about 5 minutes, rinse well, let everything dry out, put the cores back in, and you're done........till next time :-)

What is the price of your spa cover in CA?and its sizes?

would like to know some ,then i could do comparision before my purchase, thx.
or you could share the good resources of the dealers or store info here with me.

mine is 4"-2.5" tapered ,standard size , price will range from $190 to $399 or some other, depends on its foam density and thickness.

try to search more dealers to compare, good luck!

and i got one interested source from google , cal spa / jJacuzzi / sundance have some of their spa covers made from China, and to my surprise, they exceed all ASTM standards for hot tub (spa) covers.

I just bought a home with in ground pool with a spa. I want to fill in the spa and cover it with cement . ?

Any pool guys out there know if this will be a problem. if not, is it just a matter of filling the spa section and cementing over? Or will i have to re pipe the pump?
I have a stand alone spa that i want to enclose . i really dont care for or need the outdoor in ground spa.

i own a pool company and all you need to do is disconnect the spa pump from power cut pvc pipe to spa pump cap it and you are good to go

You will probably have to do some re-vamping of your pumps and pipes... and why would you want to cement over it anyway!

Why in the world would you want to fill in the spa? I think that is unheard of. I guess poor people just think differently. I think that would reduce the value of your property. Besides sitting in the spa at night with your sweetie sounds so romantic.

why re pipe the pump when your going to fill it with cement ?
take the pump off, plug the pipe fill it with in 5 or -6 inches of the top finnish it off with cement

graze on knee from astroturf. going to spa. How to cover it up without the cover falling off?

I have a nice graze on my knee from astroturf and my friend wants to go to the gym spa. Plasters, even waterproof ones always seem to fall off, especially if in a sauna or something so How can I keep it covered up? I'm not worried about it going all soggy underneath, it'll dry up again, i just don't want the plaster or something to fall off and float in the water, lol. I'm sure that wouldn't be pleasant for anyone else.

Thank you

try Mepore dressings, come in all sizes and you'll get them at the chemist

You can buy spray on plasters which just cover the skin in a waterproof gel. I think you can get it in Boots.

Use waterproof spray one band-aid. But, if the graze it completely scabbed over, then you really don't need to use anything and should be leaving it uncovered so it can heal.

How do i make a cover for a portable spa?

i have a portable spa but need to make a new cover

Hmmmmm....

I would say to go to a fabric store, look for some sorta heavy fabric, sew it up so it will fit around your spa, and attach velcro to both.

China has good spa cover manufacturer?

we successed in opening a new product line of spa / hot tub in South China , and would like to know if China has some good OEM factories to manufacture our own custom cover for it . this is going to do us a great help ,please suggest .

i am not sure what kind of custom covers you need , but the Han leather in Guangzhou,China is absolutely ok to make custom spa covers.you could go checking in the internet ,what is more , they has regular orders from two famous spa brands in U.S which they said.

how can one make a spa cover for hectagon hut tub?

looking for a simple way to make an effiencent hot tub cover that wont cost me a fortune!!!! i have a soft top one but it is ripped in the middle

I would say that if you got some 2x4's ... measured it a bit bigger then the tub .. double them up ..... tack down a leather piece over it and that might work lol .. good luck :)
