Spa maintenance?
What is the best way to maintian a spa's cleanliness?
Check the chemical levels at least once a week. More often if it gets used alot.
Which is the best hot tub/spa for the price?
Looking for a unit to put on my patio.Big enough for 5 or 6 people. Plenty of jets. Quiet, and low maintenance. Does anyone offer a salt water spa as opposed to chlorine like they do in pools now?
By far, Sundance Spas:
http://www.sundancespas.com/
Why can't salt be used in any spa that has stainless steel or plastic plumbing?
www.calspas.com
They are a solid brand and offer a "salt system" Their Cal Clarity Bromine Generator is a lot like a chlorine generator used in salt water pools only it uses sodium bromide instead of sodium chloride.
Spa is foaming like an episode of 'I Love Lucy' - help needed?
Okay here's what happened: my spa has a tile-covered waterfall along the back. I cleaned the tile with Tilex brand tile cleaner. It contains phosphoric acid but the label did not mention detergents. I used perhaps 1/4 - 1/2 cup for 2 8'X6' panels of tile.
When I turned on the jets (it doesn't foam when the waterfall is on) the soap bubbles were so deep they looked like some slapstick comedy routine Kramer from Seinfeld would find himself in. All I needed was a horse to feed some Beef-a-reeno to and I was set.
Any ideas - short of draining the spa - on how to reduce the foaming? My pool guy is out of town for a week and a half on vacation. Thanks, fellow spa owners/pool maintenance people!
baking soda will neutralize the soap and soften the water

How much does it cost monthly to have a built-in pool & spa?
I am considering buying a pool home in Riverside County California. I would like to know how much the electricity and pool maintenance costs per month are to help me decide if I really want to buy a home with a built-in pool and spa. What are the pitfalls to pool ownership?
Let say its 12' Wide x 18' long by 4' deep. Heated by either gas or electric with a 4 person size spa attached. How much for the pool guy and chemicals too?
In Riverside County, CA. If you are in So Cal Edison you can expect to pay about $30/month on electricity for a one pump system.
If you have a heater that is primarily to heat the spa since using it to heat the pool too would cost around $350 for one weekend in the Winter. Spa use is several dollars per use in WInter, less other times of the year.
Pool Maintenance is around $100 per month some chemicals included others extra.
Pool maintenance is not difficult to do. I tell my customers that you should spend less time on the pool than the grass it replaces! This is if you know what you are doing. A poorly maintained pool will get out of hand in less than one weeks time particularly in the summer.
My advice, get a pool maintenance company that will show you what to do and hire them for several months to teach you.
If you bought a repo and the pool is empty you should have or should get an extended warranty to cover the pool and related expenses since leaving a pool empty for longer than one week is bad practice. If this is the case you need to get a pool inspection service they will pressure test your pool plumbing, test equipment and check the filter for a fee.
Send me an email as I live in the area for more information.
You're welcome!!
Somebody needs all those pieces before giving you a meaningful answer.
( electric ) it goes up to about $500.00 A month now thats useing it alot almost every day out of the month, pool guys usually run about $100 to $120 a month hope this helped
Creative ideas for outdoor spa landscaping?
Up until now, the area has been a raised, brick enclosed garden. We have decided to plunk a spa in it. There will be a 5' x 8' (40 sq. ft.) open area of the raised garden that we need to do something with.
Options are: cement it in. Downside: the garden currently has irrigation, which would be shut off forever. Upside: no maintenance.
Flower or vegetable garden. Rock garden. Fountain. OR???
I have a spa connected to my pool and have a planter running across the back of the pool with very low maintenance plants and decorative rock which keeps the weeds at a minimum.
I'm in Florida, so it's a year round process, but I'm not complaining! haha (I'm lucky :). Around the spa, I decided to just do container plants and they're gorgeous! I plant a main plant in the middle of the container (a perennial or palm) and annuals around the border. This way I can change them out all the time. I have about 6 of various size pots around the spa and they just look great. They sit on my paver deck (which might be a nice idea instead of concrete). I just mix them all up!
Yeah...you still have to water, but's it's not that bad. A water feature or fountain is nice...but then you're definitely getting into more work and maintenance.
A rock garden could be beautiful and will make your spa area look very natural You still have to water though...so go for something easy. I love my container garden. I have a lot of other garden to look after - but this is my favorite as they do so well!
Good luck to you! Nothing like sitting relaxing in the spa with beautiful plants surrounding you!
PS: I don't know about you, but I use my Spa mostly at night. Consider planting light colored or white plants. There's a huge variety: Caladiums, Brugmansia, jasmine...etc. I also love the plants that have deeper scent at night!
That's an added bonus!
I personally like the idea of a flower garden, with a fountain in it. It would be very relaxing. Too much concrete is bland. Hope this helps.
Would you rather your boyfriend of one year get you jewelry, a spa treatment, or something else for your B-Day?
I want to get her something she'd like. She's not high maintenance at all, but I want to get her something she wouldn't get herself that would let her know I love her. She's 28, and despite my efforts in talking to friends and family, can't really figure out what would be a good gift for her birthday. Thanks for your help!
You can plan a scavenger hunt for her to find the present and the hunt can end at the Spa place or at a great restaurant that she likes? If I knew her I could tell you more XD Hope this gives you a good idea, though and good luck.
Hot tubs. Spas, Jacuzzi, which one to get how much electric bill per month Maintenance for them?
Looking to maybe get a hot tub. Just started looking and hot springs guys says his r the best. Jacuzi guy says that they started the outdoor hot tubs. Sundance is the Lexus of hot tubs. I just wanted to get feedback from people who own outdoor spas and what brand do you have. What was the cost to run it during winter and summer. How often do you use it. What is the weekly/monthly maintance for it etc.. Any info would help.
Thank you,
All three of those brands are luxury hot tubs. Do note that Jacuzzi rolls off the same line that Sundance does. All three are great tubs. They all are expensive to fix but the warranty will cover you for five years on the important things. The cost of running the Hotsprings will be the cheapest by about 8 bucks a month. No with that said..the cost of repairing the Hotsrings will almost always be more expensive since their parts are very difficult to otain and please don't think your dealer will be there tomorrow just because they may have for 20 years. I repair all three. I like all three. I am hard to pick one over the over but I love Sundance's quality and jets, not too mention their arrangements. Also I am no fan of the Moto Massage seat. They are broke at every tub I go to and being 80% fused (back) I am really into the therapy aspect of a tub. Of these three, you can't beat a Sundance. Now with all of that said...I gave away mine and brought home a Masterspa LSX. What we don't know is where you live so electricity is going to be hard to tell you. Sundance-Jacuzzi in NC, around $30 a month. Hotsprings about $22. I use mine every day and realy keep up on my chemicals. Now for sanitizing, I have a CD Ozonator, use very little Bromine, a Frog mineral cartrige and a non-chlorine shock for oxidizing. My tub has no smell and costs about $10 a month in chemicals. Almost every tub has a few different modes you can run it in to save money, except the Hotsprings. I do wish my Masterspa had those Sundance jets, and I wish that Sundance had that Masterspa frame. We always accept phone calls if you have a specific question.
New Hot Tub Maintenance?
We have just purchased a Bestway Lazy Spa... its fab... All filled up now with lovely warm water and i've been in it a couple of times.... Hmm, forgot about the maintenance side of it so after a couple of days i've purchased a "Clearwater" Spa Chemical Kit... Problem is it doesnt really say how much chlorine I should put in (powder form)... and I have no idea how much to start off with and how to go about it.... Please help ....
What are the basic amounts of chlorine to use (first set up onwards)
all answers will be greatly appreciated

Elaine
usually 2 tablespoons every other day will keep the required levels needed to keep out bacteria and keep the water clear.
Spa Heater not working....(tripping off/on)?
My spa heater is not working. It keeps turning off and on without warning and is not heating the spa up. I believe that it needs maintenance. When I removed the venting cover to clean it out it heated up fine but when I put the cover back on it started to trip off again and stopped working properly.
Have any of you experienced this? What is the defect? How can I fix it?
Sounds like it is overheating and shutting itself off before it fails permanently. Either the heater is bad, or there is a problem with your ventilation system. Contact the dealer you bought it from.
Brazilian wax? What exactly is it and is there like a brazilian wax kit one can use in the privacy of home?
I know it's done to remove ALL body hair down there in the privates area and I'd be way too self-conscious to get it done by someone at a spa or wherever those things are usually done so does anyone know if there are kits available one can use in the privacy of their own home? Also, after having had one, what is the maintenance on it? How frequent or whatever? Appreciate any advice on this. Thanks.
There are plenty of at - home kits. Just browse your local drug store or pop into Sally's Beauty Supply.
You can even do it yourself with a traditional sugar wax just like Cleopatra. :-P
But it is very difficult to overcome your natural aversion to hurting yourself and yank the hair out of your body properly. Furthermore, it can be tricky to get into a position that works without finding yourself all stuck together with glue-like wax.
I thought I would be mortified going to a salon, but it's less embarrassing than going to the gyn. The technician will be a female who does this all day every day to all body shapes - she is paid to be disarming and make you feel comfortable.
And really honey - you haven't got anything special down there. She's seen them before. LOL
If you want to remove hair at home, I recommend "Magic Shave", a depilatory made for black men who want the bald look (on top of their heads) . It's very gentle and removes the hair quite efficiently.
Whatever you choose, the maintenance varies. Waxing can only be done at MOST every six weeks. You need to grow in some hair for the wax to stick to.
And if you do any hair removal down there, you'll need to be extra vigilant about exfoliation because it's really easy to get an ingrown hair.

A filter for the actual hot tub filter, it helps in getting rid of the contaminants in your tap water before it reaches your spa. It leads to an increase in the life of the main filter. Available in a variety of sizes, pre-filters are one of the most sought-after hot tub accessories.
Struggling with hot tub cover every time you want to use the spa can be a strain for your back. Continuous dragging or lifting increases friction that can create problems for your hot tub’s insulating cover. Here lies the importance of a hot tub accessory like a spa cover lift.
