Office party variations could help end ho-hum gatherings CTV.ca
Fri. Dec. 11 2009 7:35 AM ETHave you ever wished the Grinch would actually just steal Christmas so that you could avoid the annual office holiday party?
We all know the pitfalls: danger of painful small talk turning into 'trash the boss' talk, thanks to that extra drink or two. Or worse, you skip the party altogether and are forever labeled the "office snob."
Well, Christmas is here to stay, and so is your annual obligatory holiday party. But before you scream "Bah, Humbug" at the top of your lungs, why not give party organizers some suggestions that will put a special spin on the dreaded ho-hum party?
Here are some alternatives to add to the event that could help everyone not only survive, but thrive!
Namaste, co-worker
One emerging new-age trend used in the corporate office world to increase morale is a weekly yoga class at the office taught by a visiting yoga instructor.
But for the holidays, why not get everyone out of the office and visit a nearby yoga studio? Most yoga spaces will happily organize a time when you and your staff can have the entire studio to yourselves.

Spa party?
I'm having a spa party birthday, and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get those white spa robes at? I need them to be cheap, and I'll need probably 7. Also, do you guys no any other ideas we can do? Where getting in the hot tub and doing facials and stuff like that, but any other ideas? Thanks!
What you can do is, hang up a white sheet, use it as a backdrop and take before and after pictures. You can take pictures of everyone when they get there, and even take group shots.
Before the party, get some props, like boas, fun sunglasses, hats, etc, and ask your guests to bring some too.
After you've done the spa part, do each other's hair and make up too. Then go back in front of the back-drop with each other and the fun props and take after pictures! See how much more relaxed you all are! You can have fun with each other and the props and then also take pictures alone and then take pictures alone with the props and have fun with it! Like your own photo shoots!
Just think of the great pictures you'll have from your fun night together!
I'm not sure where you can get the robes. I know QVC was selling some awesome ones a while back and they are SO SO SO soft! They still have them, but they are around $23 each. I'm not sure if you're wiling to spend that much. You can ask your guests to bring their own, unless this is something you want to provide for them which is very sweet of you.
You can also order food, and have some snacks and things. This is your night to have and do what YOU want! Enjoy and do whatever it is you want to do!
I hope you have a great party and a very Happy Birthday!!
non cotton type at your discount stores. Have you ever thought about using a beach towel> You can use then like a wrap whereby you wrap your body in them sideways then glue/sew on velcro tabs where the towel closes. Many places will have these on sell due to collage students/high students graduation and return to school.
Going to a spa party hosted by coworker for Sensaria products, should I bring cash?
I don't know if any of you have gone to something like this before, but a coworker is hosting a spa party at her house tomorrow to sample spa products and then everyone can order what they want, similar to the way companies like Pampered Chef sell their products. When people host things like this, do you usually pay when you're there, or later? Would just bringing my checkbook be okay? Thanks for any help!
As you say if you are only ordering what you want, you shouldn't pay until you receive the products. I don't think you have to bring cash with you.
What are the essentials for a spa party without catering or hiring a masage therapist?
I want to host a spa party for my 15th birthday, and i need to knwo some of the essentials.
I am allready planning on getting a robe, towel and slippers for guests.
but, i'm not really sure where to start with everything else.
decorate in all white stuff- plants and floor pillows maybe, have a designated "Spa Room" that you decorate
have manicure/pedicure supplies for guests to do each others nails
have fashion magazines for people to look through
bucket of water bottles
I don't think you need robes if you're not doing massages- so skip those and make gift baggies instead filled with spa type stuff- lotions, polish, bath stuff- whatever you want
play relaxing music
get a facial steamer or a parfin wax bath for your hands and feet
make homemade facials- here are some recipes (there are tons online also)
AVOCADO CARROT CREAM MASK
This mask combines avocados, which are rich in Vitamin E, with carrots, which are high in beta-carotene and antioxidants, and cream, which is high in calcium and protein. These ingredients will rebuild skin collagen, improve tone and texture, and fade age spots.
1 avocado, mashed
1 carrot, cooked and mashed
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 egg, beaten
3 tablespoons honey
Combine all ingredients in a bowl until smooth. Spread gently over your face and neck, and leave in place 10-15 minutes. Rinse with cool water and follow with your favorite toner.
Avocado Dry Skin Masque
California Avocado Commission
Beat the yolk of an egg until it is light and frothy, then add the mashed pulp of a half avocado, blending it well (you may use a blender at this point). Cleanse your face thoroughly before using this masque (or any masque). Spread the avocado mixture over the face and neck evenly; relax on a slant board or bed for about 20 minutes. Remove with clear tepid water and a face cloth, followed by a rinse of cold water or a mild skin lotion. The result should be a marked improvement in skin texture, and all-around revitalizing.
Avocado Oily Skin Masque
California Avocado Commission
Put the white of an egg, a teaspoon of lemon juice, and the mashed pulp of a half avocado into a blender. In seconds, you should have a lovely green mixture. Wash your face and neck thoroughly, then apply masque evenly on those areas. Relax for 20 minutes; remove with tepid water and a face cloth. Follow with cold astringent or skin tonic.
BASIL ACNE TONIC
Basil is known for its "soothing and toning" properties.
2 to 3 teaspoons dried basil leaves
1 C. boiling water
Steep basil leaves in water for 10 to 20 minutes. Cool, then apply to face with a white cotton ball. Keep tonic refrigerated. Recommended shelf life: 90 days.
SPA INDEX HONEY OATMEAL FACIAL
1/4 cup plain yogurt or buttermilk
1/2 cup oatmeal
2 tablespoons of honey
Finely grind or process the oatmeal in a blender or food processor. Set aside. In a small bowl, stir together honey and yogurt, and then add ground oatmeal. Mix thoroughly until a smooth paste consistency has been reached. Smooth over your face and neck, leave on for fifteen minutes, and rinse off with warm water. Can be used daily
PAPAYA PUMPKIN FACIAL
If you have visited spas and resorts in exotic locales such as the Pacific Rim, Bali, Hawaii, and Tahiti, you've probably seen a facialist select and mash fresh fruit in front of you for a fresh-on-the spot enzyme mask. It's easy to recreate this mask at home -- we've found a Balinese mask for you which will leave your face fresh and glowing.
2/3 cup fresh papaya, mashed
15 oz. can pure pumpkin
1 egg, beaten
1. Prepare the mask. Cut the papaya in half and scoop out the seeds. Scoop out the papaya fruit and mash it well to eliminate lumps in the mask. Beat the egg until it is frothy. Combine that with the papaya. Add the pumpkin to the egg/papaya mixture and whip together. You can also mix the ingredients in the blender or a food processor for an extra smooth mask.
2. Prepare your face. Wash with your daily cleanser and remove all residual makeup on your skin. Rinse with warm water. It's very important to have clean skin to ensure you get maximum benefits from the facial.
3. Apply the Mask. Cover your entire face, being careful to avoid the immediate eye area. If you have sensitive skin, test the mixture on your hand before spreading it on your face. You'll feel some tingling as the enzymes in the pumpkin go to work immediately -- gently exfoliating your top layer of skin. It works like a scrub without being abrasive to your skin. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes.
4. Rinse Off Mask. After you've relaxed for ten minutes it's time to rinse. The mask is fairly thick -- head for the kitchen sink.
5. Apply Toner & Moisturizer.
END OF SUMMER ALMOND BODY SCRUB
As the end of the summer season approaches, many of us are sporting that attractive tell-tale sign of fun in the sun: Peeling skin. Spa Index has an excellent recipe for an Almond Body Scrub to gently and thoroughly exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells. Body scrubs feel wonderful and relieve the itch of flaking skin.
•2/3 cup ground almonds
•1/3 cup oatmeal
•1/2 teaspoon of herbs (lavender, chamomile, etc) (optional)
•Plain yogurt, milk, or buttermilk, sufficient to make a paste
•Essential Oils for scent (optional)
Combine the dry ingredients in a blender or food processor until they are reduced to a coarse meal. Keep this "scrub base" in a glass jar with a screw top in your refrigerator until ready to use. When you want to use the scrub base, scoop out 1/4 cup into a small bowl, and stir in enough of the liquid ingredients (vary it by what you have on hand -- yogurt and milk are best, but water works) to make a paste. Yogurt and milk are natural exfoliates known as alpha hydroxy acids, and they will slough off dead skin cells even without the scrub. Scoop up the paste with your hands or a washcloth, and rub over your body to exfoliate peeling skin. Rinse thoroughly.
1 teaspoon honey
½ cup coconut milk
1 sprig of rosemary
2 ounces of olive oil
¼ cup Epsom salt
½ cup cornmeal
In a small bowl mix ingredients, then pour into large salad bowl filled with hot water. Soak feet for a few minutes, then reach hand into mixture and exfoliate rough spots. Repeat for each guest.
Yogurt-Honey Skin Cleanser
Save face (and neck) with this soothing and moisturizing treatment.
Unless you spend the summer at the movies, your skin is bound to suffer. Sun, sweat, and wind can leave the skin on your face irritated, greasy, parched—in other words, a mess. To the rescue: this Yogurt-Honey Cleanser created by Linda Collins of Salon Blue in Carle Place, New York. "The lactic acid in yogurt softens and soothes the skin," Collins says, "while the honey cleanses and moisturizes it."
What you need:
1 cup plain yogurt
2 ½ tablespoons of unflavored honey
teaspoon lemon juice (for oily skin)
Cotton pads (optional)
Warm water
How to get started:
– In a bowl, mix together the yogurt and honey. (For oily skin, add teaspoon lemon juice to help absorb excess oil.) You might want to patch-test the mixture first, behind one ear. Wait one hour, watching for any irritation.
– With clean hands or cotton pads, apply the mask liberally to your freshly washed face and neck (even your décolletage), and leave on for 5 minutes.
–Rinse well with warm water, lightly pat dry, and follow with your favorite moisturizer. Repeat one or two times a week.

California Cosmetology State Board does not allow cosmetologist to do hair, nails & facials in anyones home unless they are disabeled. I know there are big business here in California who sucessfully run them. I know there is a loop hole somewhere. Anyone participate, run a spa party in Cali?

What are some great drinks for a spa party?
I'm hosting a "Spa" themed party for my female friends. What are some great drinks (alcoholic and non) that would go with my theme?
I've never tried it so I can't account for taste but I've heard a Green Tea Martini is good and that just sounds so spa to me. Obviously what they serve at spas - champagne and/or mimosas, sparkling cider, tea, and mineral water.
:o)
How do you plan a spa party?
How do you plan a spa party for 25 people
We are a large group of women. We are not sure what is required if we have the pro's come to us....or if we should go to an actual spa. What logistics need to be considered either way? Thanks for your help.
Well you'd have to have some treatments and some healthy gourmet snacks... Is it possible to trim your guest list a little because you would run yourself ragged performing spa treatments on 25 people. (imagine scrubbing 50 consecutive feet). If you trimmed it down to a more cozy number you could even rent a suite at a hotel room with a pool, a hot tub, a sauna and a full working spa, just pick up some healthy platters of snacks for the room and sit back and relax.
In light of new info, you should rent a nice suite at a fancy hotel that has a spa inside of it, just use it as a meeting and changing room, fill it with snacks and flowers and then head on down to the spa for treatments. You will definately need to call ahead though and let them know how many people are coming. You may just have to keep the party going upstairs and then head down to the spa in small groups.
just look at stuff like face masks, cutical softener, hand creme, etc.
hope this helps
now answer mine
In that case, there is some really good information you can start with - go here - http://www.fabhomespa.com/
What would you serve at a spa party?
I'm having an at home spa party on Friday.
I want to make some new recipes that I haven't tried before. I'm looking for things that are fairly easy, served in single-serving sizes, and preferably "finger foods". I don't want it to be too fancy, but I want it to seem like I made an effort. lol!
Anyway, does anyone have some suggestions for what I could serve?
Oh my goodness, a ton of excellent ideas! Thank you so much, guys! I can't even decide which one is the best...
Do some chopped veggies and dip. Oooo... I had THE BEST dip at a candle party the other day. It was sour cream and onion soup mix. Mmmm...
Since it's a spa party I think veggies will go good with the sort of health theme. And then, when your feet are all soft and your wrinkles (haha) have been treated, you can bust out a cake in the shape of a bubble bath. Yesss...
I'm jealous. I want a spa party.
I'd like to start marketing my romance party plan as a bath & body spa party without romance items. Good idea?
I am having tough luck selling the "romance" items, but have always done well with the bath and body/spa items. Anyone ever done this with their party plan or would think it would be interesting to attend?
I think that is a GREAT idea, many women are afraid to ask their friends to a party that might sell items that will make others wonder about them or talk about them. With "Romance" items, women are not going to invite a very large circle of Friends. Now bath and spa items, that is a completely different story.
You might leave in a few of the milder "Romance" items and be fine though, just don't push them to hard. You might be surprised at how many women will ignore them completely but then order them if they can do so discretely.
Way to use you head, I think you are on the right path!
Peace!
cheap ideas for a home spa party?
im planning a spa party for a few of my friends here at my house, and i need a few ideas. we are all either 18 or 19 years old. any good and cheap ideas. thanx a bunch....
lots of veggies, like carrots and cucumbers (they're good for your skin) and avacado too. and try finger foods like cherries, grape tomatoes, regular grapes and maybe strawberrries or blueberries. and if you have any cooking skills ( i personally just buy mine because i'm not good at things in the oven) you could try making quices.
For ideas get some cheap nail polish and some pedicure things and try painting nails and doing home made pedicures. Listen to your favorite songs, but try some soothing music too like Enya or Enigma and Morzart. All of which they play at really great spas.
