Southwest community notes: Therapist helps athletes at fundraising race Chicago Sun-Times
Therapist helps triathletes at race
COAL CITY — Therapist Nicole Dudley of Coal City participated in the Illinois Valley Triathlete Club fundraiser for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on July 31 in Somonauk.
Dudley aided the athletes after they finished their Mega Sprint Triathlon event by providing massage therapy to help them recuperate and return more quickly to a normal body temperature and muscle relaxation.
It has been shown in research that with a visit to a trained certified massage therapist, an athlete begins their recovery immediately and more efficiently when receiving post-event sports massage. All the athletes were very appreciative after their grueling event in the hot, humid sun.
Dudley is a licensed massage therapist and a member of the American Massage Therapy Association.
She practices at Elite Rehabilitation Institute at the Coal City Studio Fitness.

What exactly is sports massage and how does it differ from ordinary massage?
I dislocated my knee in December and I was braced in a split for several weeks.
Ive been having physiotherapy since January, as I had a lot of muscle wastage and couldnt bend my knee or walk.
I've done really well but I still have a bit of stiffness and bit of pain in my groin (cough). Could sports massage help please?
Thank you for your replies so far.
It's not for sport, just for improving my general mobility.
"Sports massage is a particular branch of massage that focuses on relieving skeleton-muscular tension and returning the muscles to a loose, relaxed state. Sports massage techniques provide a number of important benefits to athletes. Since they regularly train their muscles hard for peak performance, and then go out a push their bodies to the limit and beyond, they are prone to constant and chronic injuries. Sports massage helps to prevent some of those injuries, as well as speed up recovery time and relieve extreme muscle cramping and tension."
I get sports massages done every other month and they are typically more painful than the standard massage.
Sports massage is great for improving training, preventing injury, and enhanceing an athlete's perforrmance. By improving the blood circulation the athlete is able to train more efficiently. It also helps in the removal of waste products and renews tissues. Tissue damage/ imbalances can be caught earlier and possibly corrected before an injury occurs. It's pretty much awesome, in a nutshell!
Sports Massage is an advanced technique and there are different kinds, like...Sports Massage for golfers, Sports Massage for runners, etc. So, if you decide to see a massage therapist, make sure they've had experience with that type of sport so that you get the maximum effect/benefit.
How to get into equine sports massage therapy??
im considering a career as an equine sports massage therapist, just wondering if anyone could tell me how to get into this i.e what courses and any additional information as i cant find much on the internet that would would be great thanks :)
Here is a link to Equissage - it will give you loads of info. Just check state laws and make sure they don't require you to be a vet. There was a cover story on AOL yesterday about a lady who was certified to do human massage and was practicing on horses and they shut her down. She's fighting it and should win, but check your state laws to be safe. http://www.equissage.com/
have a look at this as well - http://www.equinemassageassociation.co.uk/index.htm
How much does a sports team massage therapist make?
This would be a massage therapist who works for or with a sports team?
IDK probably would be a expert in the business so I would say over to $70000 maybe in 100000 figure.
What is the difference between a deep tissue massage and a sports massage?
what is the difference in benefits from both of these types of massages?
The first is good for the connective tissues and the second mostly for the muscles;))
I have to do an oral report on sports massage.?
I'm in massage school and I have to do an oral report on sports massage. I'm just kind of having a block trying to think of things to talk about. Anyone have any ideas on what I could touch on?
Its role in injury prevention and healing.
Equine Sports Massage Certification question?
I am looking at the various Equine Sports Massage certification programs available. Is there anyone here that is certified? What advice would you give to someone looking at the various schools and needs help making a decision on choosing one? What is your favorite part about performing the massages and what is your least favorite?
I recently looked into equine massage, as well.
I got into it after reading a wonderful book: "The Walrus on My Table: Touching True Stories of Animal Healing" by Anthony Guglielmo. Anthony speaks about how he got into working with animals and why he chose the school he did (Patricia Whalen-Shaw's Integrative Touch Therapy for Animals in Circleville, Ohio).
After doing some research on-line, I saw many schools and they are all very expensive. I decided to call some local barns to find out if they would even have a market for my work if I were to go for some certification. I learned that in most states Equine Massage is illegal unless you're, at least, a Certified Veterinary Tech. I even spoke with barns in New Jersey where there are no licensing requirements. Nevertheless, the owners still told me that even though I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and even if I got my Equine Certification, they still wouldn't hire me unless I also became a CVT, had large animal experience, AND was affiliated with one of their Vets!
I decided to hold off to get my certification until there was a "sign" of some sort that there was work available for me. I live in Manhattan and there's not much of a market right here. If something happens to me that happened as described by Anthony in his book -- i.e., a client keeps asking me to massage their horse -- then I would take that as a sign.
In the interim, if I were to go study Equine Massage, I personally, decided that it would be at the Equissage School in Virginia because I have a very close friend living right up the road. I could stay with her and I could massage and ride her horse while I'm there.
Good luck!
Where can I do a short course on sports massage?
I would like to do the course in India . are there any recognised institutes?
I did a www.dogpile.com search and found some of them to be helpful. Try:
http://www.dogpile.com/info.dogpl/search/web/sports%252Bmassage%252Bindia%252Bcertification/1/-/1/-/-/-/1/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/417/top/-/-/-/1
You may want to contact the (federal, state, provincial) agency that licenses 'sports massage' people and ask them your question.
Can you recommend a place in La Brea or La Habra, CA for a good after marathon sports massage?
don't know the difference yet between a deep tissue massage and a sports massage.
Try the Yellow Pages under Chiropractic.
I am studying to be a massage therapist. I would like to be in sports massage. How do I go about doing this?
My ultimate goal would be to work for a professional team (like NFL) or a college team. I'm not sure how to get the information I need. Can anyone help me?
Most of their staff are physical therapists, not just massage therapists. They have went to school for 4 years, not just 500 hours or whatever your state requirements are. Advice is to check with the team you want to work worth and see what their requirements are for employment in that field. That is going to be your best bet.
