Hair Diaries: Japanese Straight Perm

Straight Perm?

My hair is naturally wavy, but i love to have it silky straight, but its takes to much of my time . Should I try a Straight perm?

if you straighten your hair proably like everday thats not good for your hair, it damages it alot.. i have curly hair and i know how u feel, but what i do in order to save me time from straighting my hair is when i get dune taking a shower , i brush my hair really good, and i don't tie my hair or anything untell its dune drying ,(air dryed) my hair is allso long.....

then after that i would straight my hair, because it won't be as curly or wave as it usaly is and its a little straighter, so when straighting my hair its less time..

PERMING YOUR HAIR STRAIGHT ISN'T A GOOD WAY TO GO!! you will totaly dammage your hair, i dune perming and wow i wish i never have. i have eto live with frizz for the rest of my life now ...

Wait I have a question for you. What is Straight Perm? Becuase my hair is like yours too! LOL. E-mail me at dancinchick5986@cox.net or something. Thanks!

If you want to reward yourself, sure try it. But keep in fact it is expensive, and does damage your hair. If your hair is thin, brittle or weak already don't get it done or you can get a side effect of some hair loss. :(

No! Don't do it. Every woman's hair I've dealt with that has has a chemical straightening sevice done to it, is compleletly damaged. The women never have anything positive to say about it. Besides, it grows out and looks hideous.

no don't . i have a couple of friends who had it done and their hair was ruined for ever ,, and they noticed something weird , their hair color started to fade and it's their natural hair color .. my friend had a black hair and now she's almost blonde

Straight perm can damage your hair, If I were you I would use straightners, I know it's only temporary but if you want to perm your hair, know that you will have to condition it regularly. Use a relaxer that contains lye because no Lye relaxers can dry your hair out...

Instead of getting a straight perm, try getting a relaxer. I have ppofy, wavy hair and last week I used this relaxer. I think it's Gentle treatment

I have a friend who gets it done and she loves it! She is mixed and has very thick curly hair, after she gets the straight perm her hair is smooth and straight. I have asked a salon about it and they didn't recomend it for me because I have thin hair and the damage would outweigh the positive results.

No. Don't do it. If you really want something done, try thermal reconditioning. It is very expensive, though. My friend had it done and it was like $370 plus she spent another $100 on deep conditioning treatments afterwards to get it back in shape.

I have wavy hair as well. I use the remington wet-to-straight straightening iron. It is really fast and reasonably priced. $30 at Kmart or walmart. When I wear my hair straight, I will straighten it one day, and then that night I will pull it into a ponytail right on top of my head with a thick soft scrunchy. It's hideous, but come morning my hair will still have body on the top so that I can go a day or two without re-doing the whole process.

I've relaxed my hair so many times over the years, using everything from gentle to the ones for coloured hair, and as much as I'm happy I don't have to straighten it with a flat iron, I won't do it any more. My hair always kept getting shorter and shorter (breaking off at the ends) and I gave up. They were ALL professional, so I don't believe there is anything safe for white people's hair. My many black friends have it done no problem, great results, but their hair is much more resilient and less prone to breakage.

just buy a flat iron it can give you that same straight look that you desire, don't put a perm in it.... it can ruin your hair if your not careful and you will never have your wavy hair again unless you let the perm grow out and/or cut the part off of your hair that you permed

Yes I would encourage a relaxer but you need to make sure that your hair is strong and not to thin or it may cause breakage.

How much is that new brazilian straight perm and is there anywhere that does it cheaper?

I straighten my hair every other day and theres really nothin else to do to my hair except putting it up, so I was wondering how much it is, and if that new brazilian straight perm has anything to damage your hair. Oh and I live in Palm Beach county, Florida. PLZ help!

Brazilian hair straightening costs between $150 and $600. Japanese Straight Perm should cost between $250 and up depending on length, but it has to be done every few months.

If you get a straight perm will your hair be free from humidity damage?

My hair poofs in humidity when I straighten it. If I get a straight perm will it then be fine?

I had the same prob before I got a straight perm.

Mine stays fine in humidity.

It will, my best friend had hers permanently straightened and onthe days when my hair would poof after straightening it in the morning her's would stay completely soft and straight.

I have a straight perm, is it okay to dye my hair black and get raccoon tail highlights w/ bleach?

I have a straight perm, is it okay to dye my hair black and get raccoon tail highlights w/ bleach?

i think your hair will be really fragile after the perm. if you want to dye it and highlight it . it will make the strands really brittle and dry. it may cause your hair to break.

you might have to wait a few weeks between each treatment. deep condition your hair as much as possible.

only if it's been left a few weeks and is in great condition....

only if you had that perm for about a month 1/2 it will work if it is.. =D

Nope! you have a straight perm and you want a bleach chunk...chemical hair cut in the works..word of advice..BE 100% HONEST with your stylist..

What do they put in your hair for a straight perm?

What do they put in your hair when they are giving you a japanese straight perm?
I have really puffy curly hair and i want to get a straight perm.
Do you think it will work and i wont have to use my straightener for like 2 hrs?

Some people have success but others do not.
All they put into your hair is a perm solution and then them comb your hair Straight over and over. Because it is a perm solution it is just as hard on your hair as a perm.

I think they just use perm solution and comb it straight through your hair for the desired time.

I think they just use the same solution but you can read about it here;

Well I am not sure because of different texture of hair but african american people use a relaxer a very good one is Organic ROOT Stimulator™ Oiive Oil Relaxer Kit. (google it)

Is it better to have a straight perm, or to just keep on straigtening everyday?

Yes i want to know.. cause like i had a perm like 3 years ago... and i hated it.. after i take a shower its still very curly. and i hate it =( and it takes froevery to iron my hair cause like my hair is thick. So should i get a straight perm.. or just straighten it everyday? which one is healthier for my hair?
ANd also how much would it cost in CA?

i tried both...i personally regret getting a perm...cus when your hair isnt straight ....its looks kinda icky...i miss my natural pretty curly hair ...an if you get a perm you have to keep re apply it anyway an its annoying after awhile. its better to just striaght your hair an take care of it as much as you can.

They are both probably the same damage wise. However, with a flat iron, you can put protectant spray before use. Also, with a straight perm, you'll have to redo it every six months or so (just think: once new hair grows in, it'll be curly as normal). Plus, straight perms can cost quite a bit, especially since your hair is thick and if it is long. So, I suggest sticking with the flat iron. I know you didn't ask this, but one more tip: Try to embrace the hair you have. You'll be much happier because it will save so much time. But, like I said, if you must straighten it, use a flat iron.

=)

perm straightening hair everyday can break your hair off from all the heat but if u get a perm u will only need to get one once every 3 to 5 months

How much does a straight perm cost?

I'm sick of my wavy hair and yeah so I'm going to get a straight perm and I'm going to pay for it myself. I had one a while back in 6th grade but obviously it grew out. The place where I got it done charged $200. But I'm going to a Regis Salon. (Dunno if you have one where you live). What is the price range for a straight perm?

depends on exactly what ur lookin for....talk to your stylist.

Personalized from me!

does a straight perm damage your hair and how long does one last?

I am 13 going on 14 and I want a straight perm. I am really tired of straightening my hair everyday, but I want my hair to be really straight. My parents said that if a perm lasts a long time then I can get it and if it does not damage your hair then I can get it. What should I do? If you can then post pictures of permed hair.

A lot of people say they don't like straight perms... but I think that a straight perm made my hair a lot better. Apparently it works different for certain people, depending on your hair type, but I think mine turned out pretty good.
Also, they say a straight perm is a lot worse than straightening your hair everyday, but I don't see how. Again, it may also depend on certain factors, like the method of straightening the person who did your hair uses.
Just try a perm and then see how it works out, and if you don't like it just continue straightening your hair.

Is getting a japanese straight perm bettter than straightening and blowdrying?

Every morning i blow dry and straighten my hair. i use products to help control the damage but my hair has a lot of split ends.
is it better to just get a straight perm?
i have medium length wavy hair
my hair is pretty thick
and i also heard that if you get the perm it leaves your hair really oily, is there a way to get the perm done without making your hair oily?

Yes, a Japanese straight perm is better. Straigtening AND blowdrying your hair(especially if you do it one after another) everyday can build up to a whole lot of damage. Getting your hair Japanese straight permed semiannually or so will cause less damage. However, remember to use some of the products that the salon recommends for you to protect your hair after you perm it.
The one con about straight perming hair is that your hair tends to get flat, losing the volume you had before. So, you might have to use some more product for volume if you really care about volumizing and stuff.

If I had Straight perm and curled my hair what would happen?

I got straight perm about 2 months ago, thats not that long so would it make the perm go away or something?

If you just curled it, with a curling iron or with curlers, it would hold the curl for a while, but it might come out after a little bit. If you want a temporary curl while your hair is permed, curl it with a curling iron. The curls will come out after you wash your hair. If you use curlers, you will probably have to leave them on overnight or the curls will not stay at all.
Once you wash your hair, though, the curls should come out. I did that just a week or so ago with a curling iron and my permed hair was straight again.
