Backyard Ocean ™ Offers High-Quality Pool Winterizing Kits to Protect ... San Francisco Chronicle (press release)
Backyard Ocean ™ opens this winter season with premium pool winterizing kits and friendly tips homeowners can rely on to provide the best protection possible for their swimming pool, pool equipment and poolside items during the winter months.
Beaverton, OR (PRWEB) September 22, 2011
With winter fast approaching, Backyard Ocean ™ is providing friendly tips and reliable products to help homeowners protect their swimming pool and equipment from harsh winter weather. For autumn 2011, the online retailer for above ground pools and pool supplies reminds homeowners to winterize their swimming pools to ensure that it will be in top condition for next summer.
"With only a few weeks left before the cold arrives, this is the best time homeowners have to complete their plans in keeping their swimming pools and outdoor furniture safe during the bitter winter months," says Sasha Jacobs, spokesperson of Backyard Ocean ™.
Winterizing or closing swimming pools during winter is important to protect a pool from damage caused by freezing water and the elements. A few simple steps are essential to effectively winterize pools: Thoroughly clean the pool before starting the closing process. Remove all pool accessories from the water or deck for easier cleaning and covering. Turn off all swimming pool equipment. Drain and clean filters, hoses, and chemical feeders. Check the chemistry balance of the pool water to protect the pool liner or surface from staining during the off-season. Backyard Ocean ™ suggests their high quality pool winterizing kits for ensuring that your pool is properly winterized with the correct chemicals. Drain the pool water down enough to make room for freezing. Cover your pool with a winter cover for added protection over normal, summer-weather pool covers.

Inground Swimming Pool Accessories and Options?
Hi, I'm researching having an inground swimming pool installed in my yard. I am curious what options and accessories I can get (and hopefully the general price of those). Such as the different pumps, vacuums, etc. And rocks, waterfalls, slides, etc? Different types of concrete? Lights? I want to hear it all! Where can I learn more please?
I think you need to decide what type (gunite, vinyl, fibreglass) of pool you're putting in before you further explore your options. Whilst some equipment and accessories options are common to all types, not all are. The way you're asking this question is far too broad to answer. I'm a pool guy, but this would take half a day in person to describe all the ways you can go. :)
Redefine your question a bit and I can help.
Edit: As usual, David D is at his site spamming again. It's a pay per click site. He profits from it.

Training fins (flippers) not allowed in swimming pool. Does pool management has the right to do this?
I own a pair of very short swimming fins designed by a top world class manufacturer exclusively for swimming pool training. However I was banned from using them in a London pool. It is definetely a swimming pool accessory and NOT scuba or open sea water long flippers. My fins have rounded rubber padded ends for safety protection.
In the same pool there is a SCUBA course where they use fins. It seems that management is discriminating fin use according to customer return and they are more lax with safety rules, if they make additional money. They make the same amount of money, if I use fins or not. If I became a scuba trainee, they will make more money from me and allow me to wear fins, actually sea fins!
I need to use the fins to rehabilitate from an orthopedic condition, so I will appreciate any serious replies. Thanks
That is outreagous!! It can't be 1 rule for you and 1 rule for other people. In my opinion the management do not have the right to do that, like you said they are still making money from you. Did you mention to them about your orthpedic condition? If you did and they still won't budge...i would use another swimming pool.
If you are sharing the lanes with other users who don't use fins it may be uncomfortable for them if you use fins. You go much faster and fins still look unsafe to collide with.
One thing is sharing the pool with scuba/fin users, but sharing the lane is completely different.
It sounds a little discriminating, and I would follow up on it:
1. Letter from doctor stating your orthopedic condition and the benefits of the fins and swimming.
2. Copy of this letter and a written statement from the manager of the swimming pool sent to the Mayor, politician, human rights person in London, and send a copy to Mr. Blair.
Unfair and discriminating.
There has to be a swimming pool with posted hours for people in your situation. Fight for your rights!
It relates to health and safety and they do not intend to get into arguments, it is easier to ban them all from their point of view
the scuba diving is a club which hires the pool for that purpose and there is no public in the pool it is the same with swimming clubs they also hire the pool and use flippers
both these clubs have to take out insurance for all the personal on and in the pool
When the scuba club meet there they have fully qualified instructors who are responsible for the member's safety. This is why they are permitted to use this equipment.
I suggest you save up and open your own pool. Then you can set the rules.
It was the case, even in my misbegotten childhood and youth of the 1940s and 50s that NO FLIPPERS IS ALLOWED IN THIS HERE POOL - OKAY!

Asking price for a 27 foot above ground swimming pool?
I have a 27 foot above ground swimming pool (3 years old) that I am trying to sell. It is in very good condition with a pump/filter, solar and winter covers, and accessories such stairs and automatic cleaner. The liner is fine now, but it may need to be replaced when torn down, but no idea. Is $1500 too much to ask? $1000? $500? I'm clueless on this.
Dain, i already answered your question on this with your other question when you referred to your pool as a 24 foot Round pool.
I gave it a second thought after posting, and seeing this message, IF you want to sell your pool, or get rid of it, you might want to post an ad for used pool equipment. A Pump/motor usually goes for 3-400 bucks, and the filter could be a few hundred more, but the equipment is used, so if you get someone to buy it for 500 dollars you should consider yourself lucky. Place an add for the equipment, and as a bonus they can have the pool for free. you might get a taker, But refer to my other message where i talked about liability. You don't want to be held responsible when the pool leaves your yard, so should something happen in 2 weeks, whether it is faultyequipment or improper installation, just make sure you dont get caught up in it.
It makes no sense to try and make a few bucks back on your pool that is 3 years old, and then by some string of bad luck, have someone come knocking on your door looking for damages because the ladder or steps failed and someone got injured. Sure it could be from the new owner installing equipment improperly, and you have no control over it, But is it really worth the hassle? Sell your used equipment, people will buy it. Especially now where people are going to have equipment failures and problems from the past winter, and dismantle your pool and put it on the side of the road, i guarantee someone will load it and take it away, even if there is no equipment.
It is so hard to sell a used pool for more than that because so many retailers use the 'BAIT AND SWITCH' method in advertising. In our state, as long as you have 1 pool to sell at the super low price, you can run the ad for a year. Of course when people go into a store looking for the 24' round pool installed for $999 they find that it is sold out.

Diseases in Public Swimming Pool!?...but how would...?
Useless bckgrnd info (real question after line skip): I'm taking beginning swim at school, and failing miserably (slow learner. can't kick right. can't do side swim thing). so I decided, "okay, nearby public swimming pool, 3 hours a day till i get it!" and off i went. went today. learned a little bit (still have trouble. try again tomorrow). but then my mom comes and say, "you cannot go back there ever again! there are diseases there and you could get AIDS or some other virus and then it won't be worth it to die just to practice there! Promise me you will never go there again!!" --- still going there anyway, but now i'm curious (and need this info to justify by blatant disobedience!):
I understand how there would be diseases in a pool with a couple hundred people in it, but HOW would, say, a virus resistant to the disinfectant end up in the body?? (would it be ONLY through open sores, or somehow through accessory sex organs *swims to it?* or through digestive tract *survives acid!?*
There are bugs you can get from public swimming pools, but HIV isn't one of them. Ever.
The most common bug is tinea (athlete's foot) from the shower. People sometimes get mild eye or ear infections or sometimes stomach upsets from the water, but this shouldn't happen often if they chlorinate the water properly, and you avoid swallowing too much of it. Make sure you dry your feet and ears properly, and wear goggles if you're putting your head underwater.
You are extremely unlikely to catch anything serious from a properly maintained public pool. You are much more likely to die from drowning if you haven't learned to swim. Being able to swim well is an excellent skill to have and great exercise. Keep practising, although you probably need to keep working on convincing your mom.
For those who own an indoor swimming pool?
I am curious to know if those who have an indoor pool:
1) use it as often, or not as often as they expected
2) regret installing it (due to lack of use, or expense of maintenance)
3) have it heated or not heated
4) would prefer having an outdoor pool, or perhaps a spa
5) have (or would like to have) other accessories that make a pool more enjoyable (ex. water slide, volleyball net, resistance swimming jets etc).
6) Anything else about your pool owning experience that you would like to share.
Please do not answer if you just have an outdoor pool or just a spa, I am only interested in those that have an indoor pool. Thank you for your time
I have friends that have an indoor pool. They never use it! It is not heated so no one goes in it in the winter and everyone wants to be in the sun during the summer.
PS-
I have an outdoor pool and everyone uses the spa more often.
The spa is used year around and the pool is only used during the summer.
