i want to buy an above ground swimming pool but cant find anyone to supply to Greek island where i live?

I want an above ground swimming pool about 16 to 18 feet round / square but cant find a company who will deliver to Kalymnos in the Dodeconesse where i live .
Can anyone help ?

Call the company you are wishing to buy the pool from, and talk to them about shipping options. If one of their carriers won't provide transportation then suggest you being able to hire one and paying for the shipping. It might not be cheap but would you rather have a pool or not?

Ooops! I think I damaged the supply line into the in-ground swimming pool when I turned to remove the upspout

How do I repair this and if I need to cut the liner to work on the main supply line, is there a good way to repair the liner (repair kit, sleeve, or fitting?) Help everyone thinks they will be able to swim on Memorial Day!!

If you used correct terminology or at least described a little better, what it is that you've done, I might be able to help. All anyone can get from what you've posted is that it's an in ground vinyl pool and you may have broken something related to a pool return. I'm just guessing on the last part since there are no "supply lines" or "upspouts" in a pool. There are, however returns and eyeball fittings, which is as close as I can figure you mean.
Post additional comments under your question, with a better description and we can go from there.

Swimming Pool Supplies???

where do you buy the cheapest swimming pool supplies? I need an on line store name or web address. This pool stuff cost so much, and with Gas prices I have a feeling I will be swimming more this year then driving..

A pool is a luxury, not a necessity. Put garbage in and expect garbage results. Not all chemicals are created equally. One pound of "A" might do the same thing as 3 pounds of "B". But "B" costs half as much as "A". Which is the best value? Good luck. You'll need it.

Tried to answer your e-mail but there was a problem delivering it. I shall be happy to help you, but I need to know a few details. What type of pool? Above or inground. What type of construction? Concrete, vinyl liner, fiberglass. Do you want to use chlorine or one of the nonchlorine alternatives? Answer these and I'll fix you up.

It might be better to see your local swimming pool dealer for all the best deals and information.

Try Gary's pool, if any thing you'll atleast gain information on what to buy, and prices.

can i use regular chloring bleach for washing clothes in place of the more expensive swimming pool chlorine?

The cost of adding chlorine to my pool to keep the water clean and healthy has me thinking of the price difference of the gallons sold at pool supply stores ($2.99) and the gallons of chlorine bleach sold at the dollar store ($0.99). Aren't they the same thing?

* Pool Chlorine is more concentrated (@ 12% w/v strength).

* Cheap chlorine ranges from strengths ~1 - 4%w/v.

totally different

they are not totally different. they are the same thing. but one may be more concentrated than the other. hence the difference in price.

fresh pool chlorine is made at 15% strength so it is 12% by the time it reaches your pool......not sure what percent store bleach has but I guess you could just use more....in the long run,a salt chlorine generator is the most cost effective for several differentent reasons: http://www.swimming-pool-information.com/pool-chlorine-generators.html

You can use clorox, or any store brand bleach you want. The only problem you will face is that Store brand bleach is about 1/3 the strength of liquid chlorine. So... lets think about it. You can buy a gallon of liquid Chlorine or a 1lb bag of granular chlorine for about 3 bucks, yes it might be more or less depending on where you live, and in some cases, where if you buy a small box of granular chlorine it may be cheaper.... So for 3 bucks, you get 1 pound of liquid or granular chlorine. If you have to spend .99 each for 3 gallons of liquid bleach <1 gallon for 3 gallons to equal the chlorine content> you are only saving yourself 3 cents. For that savings, it really isnt cheaper to have to buy 3 containers and have to dispose of them than 1 container.
You should use the granular chlorine. It stores easier, with no bulky containers to have to find a spot for. If you have a liner, or a colored gunite bottom pool, just get a bucket and fill it with pool water, pour the chlorine in to the bucket and mix the water around (do not use your hand..... get a painters stick, or some other form of mixing stick) You may have to repeat this 2 or 3 times to get all of the granules dissolved into the water, but you do not want to let the calcium based granules sit on your liner, it is possible that they could create some pinholes in your liner, or if you have a colored bottom plaster gunite pool, you could discolor the plaster.

So overall, to achieve the same chemical results to keep your pool clean and healthy, it will take you roughly 99 store brand bleach containers to save a dollar, and 99 empty bottles compared to just 33 with pool brand chlorine, IF your adding 3 gallons each time you shock your pool, its only about 1 dollar for every 3 months, so yout overall savings will only be about 1.50 cents when you figure a swimming pool season <depending on where you live> is only for about 5-6 months.

Hope this helps you.

Is there a good online swimming pool company to buy supplies from?

Whats more effective in raising the pH in a swimming pool - sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate?

the pool supply store sales sodium carbonate..... everywhere else sales baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). i was told i could use baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) instead of the sodium carbonate bought from the pool supply store. ok, i know it will do the same; BUT from a cost perspective. the carbonate sales for $5.86 for 4lbs and baking soda for approx $.69 a pound.
so, how much bicarbonate will it take to equal the effectiveness of the carbonate? for example does it take 2lbs of bicarbonate to equal the effectiveness of 1lb of carbonate? whats the ratio if any.

One mole of sodium carbonate (Na₂CO₃) is twice as effective as one mole sodium bicarbonate only one (NaHCO₃) for raising the pH, because it could form the double amount of:
OH⁻ ions:
CO₃²⁻ + H₂O ←→ HCO₃⁻ + OH⁻
HCO₃⁻ + H₂O ←→ CO₂ + OH⁻

If you want to compare the efficiency per mass, you have to divide by the molar mass of the salt:
M(Na₂CO₃) =106g/mol
M(NaHCO₃) = 84g/mol

the effectiveness is:
e(Na₂CO₃) = 2 moles OH⁻ / 1moleNa₂CO₃ = 2 molesOH⁻ / 106 gNa₂CO₃
e(NaHCO₃) = 1 moleOH⁻ / 1moleNa₂CO₃ = 1 molesOH⁻ / 84 gNaHCO₃

The ratio of the effectivness of the compounds is:
e(Na₂CO₃) / e(NaHCO₃) = 1.584gNaHCO₃ / gmoleNa₂CO₃

That means about 1.6g bicarbonate equals the effectiveness of 1g carbonate.

Car engine to siphon swimming pool to stop fire?

Suppose you have a car, a swimming pool and a house that needs protection from wildfire.

How would you use the car engine to siphon the swimming pool and pump water into sprinklers positioned on the house roof?

Can you use common items like garden hose and PVC pipe? Can you run the water THROUGH the engine, using the car's water pump to supply pressure?

I go with getting a small generator to power the pool pump.
You could run some steel or copper pipe up over your house and connect it into the pool return line using valves to turn off the return to pool and divert the flow into the sprinkler system.

You would need to turn the multiport valve to recirculate to bypass the filter - not bothered about filtration when you have a fire!
be careful you don't restrict the output too much otherwise the pool pipework / system may well burst about 30psi is safe generally.
The best pipe to use is called "Cunifer Pipe" it is heat resistant, if you used plastic hose it would melt or burst when hot, there are fire resistant rubber pipes you can use, all these are expensive so either steel or copper would be yiur best bet.

Regards, Dave

I would call MacGyver in on this one my friend. Allthough it is actually possible, if your house was on fire would you be quick enough to assemble all the parts together correctly..?

I don't think you'd get much pressure, and your house would burn down before you could get it hooked up and your pump primed. Get a generator so you can power your swimming pool pump instead, or better yet, get a high pressure, high volume pump that runs on gas or diesel, and large hose to match..

Personally, though, I'm scared of fire. When it's that close, I want to be gone.

I think that using the cars water pump is a very bad idea, it will cause the car to overheat fairly quickly.

If I were to design a pump to attach to a car, it would run on a PTO (power take off) shaft attached to the drive wheels with the car jacked up and a wheel removed, or attached to one of the pulleys under the hood. I have to assume that you aren't intending to use this car to escape should your fire control measures fail.....

If I were serious about the system, I would have a small diesel engine with pto and pump at standby.

I agree with the above. Theoretically it could be done but I don't think you'll have the water pressure you would if you had a dedicated engine driven pump.

This is what I would look into if I had a pool and lived near wild fire prone areas. I wouldn't be hanging around when things got real bad though. http://www.disasterblaster.com/

How do I check vacuum on a swimming pool pump?

I have had to re-plumb the return and supply lines on my in-ground pool, The 1.5 inch PVC lines are all run above ground from the pump house, now the vacuum seems to have disappeared. any ideas I can try myself?
I had done everything in answer #1 and #2 , I need any suggestions to find an air leak in the supply line...?...

reverse the flow of water, and then you'll have water that leaks out your air leak and it will be easy to find.

Is there any pool supplies, relatively cheap, that can detect leaks in swimming pools?

if so, please include the link. thx

Plumbers dye or leak detection dye. You can get this stuff at most hardware stores, just ask and they will be able to direct you right to it.

Pool specific dye can be found here and other online sources.

Does anyone know where I can buy swimming pool vinyl liner sealing tape for a "low hung" liner?

This is a white tape to cover the seams and the track that the liner fits into. The liner tracks into the wall below the water line. Polynesian used to make the pools and carry the supplies but have since gone out of business.

I have a polynesian pool, 18X36. I had the liner replaced about 12 years ago from a place in Terra Haute, Indiana. They did a decent job and used the white tape. I don't recall the name of the company but you could try the yellow pages. If you have any luck let me know. I'm just about in the need for another liner and would also like to have a roll of the tape. If I recall the tape was something like $75/roll at that time. No telling what it will cost now if available. Are you sure the Polynesian has gone out of business? thanks
