US Troops in Afghanistan: Guns, Tattoos and Eyebrow Threading ABC News (blog)

Battle hardened troops in Afghanistan have added a new  dimension to military fashion that goes beyond the traditional tough guy tattoo – having their eyebrows threaded, shaved or plucked.

“It’s one of those wartime oddities, if you can call it that,” said Master Sgt. Nicholas Conner at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan.  ”When I was in Iraq, we had guys, they used to do it to clean up mustaches and sideburns… The new thing now is getting your eyebrows done.”

The Wall Street Journal reported that soldiers stationed in eastern Afghanistan are going to local barbers to get their eyebrows shaped into thin arches.

Pfc. Richard Guillemette, stationed at Forward Operating Base Joyce in Shinwar, told the paper  that the first time his eyebrows were shaped was an accident.  He went for a haircut to a local barber and realized before it was too late that the barber was shaping his brows with a razor. He liked the way it looked and kept it up.

Threading?

i heard about threading eyebrows and such, but what exactly is it, how much does it cost, and does it hurt?

the woman used a long piece of thread, she ties it so it makes a circle the twirls it in her fingers and holds a piece in her mouth. She runs it over the hairs and then pulls the tread tight and pulls out tons of hairs at once. It hurts...but its great. Its over in a few minutes and you are able to go out right away. Waxing always leaves you red and swollen. Its not too expensive, I think I used to pay about 15.00 for my "go-Tee"
:)

H

it cheap and it works and dosent hurt dat much...like pluckin but faster

it is like waxing, but i have heard it hurts way worse

Threading is an just an expensive way to shape your eyebrows. I think waxing is the best, only a little pain and it is around 7-12$. Threading can be 35-50$! And you get teh exact same results!

Practitioners use a pure cotton thread. They generally twist the hair and threading pulls out a whole row of hair, as opposed to tweezing where only one single hair is pulled out. Threading is often preferred to tweezing because of the naturally straight lines of hair removed by the thread. It is pulled out from the follicle. Some women focus particularly on the area between the eyebrows, thus interrupting so-called "unibrows".

Like other methods of hair removal such as plucking or waxing, threading can result in skin irritation and ingrown hairs, however, hair re-growth becomes finer and more sparse after regular treatments. As the top layers of skin are not peeled or traumatized, threading is also recommended and an excellent option for those who have sensitive skin and who use Retin-A, Accutane, and similar products.

threading is using i thread to pluck ur eyebrow hair. they twist the thread somehow, and remove the hair. it hurts much less then waxing, and it is much cheaper. also, waxing frequently causes wrinkles on ur eyebrow, but threading doesnt.

it hurts the first time it feels like you are getting a little burn and it is like $8 but it depends where you live
i get mine done like that
it turns out really nice
and they use a thread and just cut it like that
its kinda weird but i mean its not bad it better than getting them waxed
just make sure to tell the threader how thin or thick you want them

It is basically just someone plucking your facial hairs with a piece of thread. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threading_%28epilation%29

Usually it doesn't cost more that like 15-20$, probably less than that depending on where you go and how much hair you get pulled. It doesn't hurt much: it's about the same amount of pain you get when you pluck your eyebrows with a tweezer.

How much does eyebrow threading cost and how long does it last?

I want to try eyebrow threading at a stand at the mall and I was wondering how much do they charge at one of those stands? How long does it take for it to grow back?

it's not too much, around the same as waxing i think
10-20$ maybe
it last for like atleast 2 weeks.

It's like waxing.. In my opinion it hurts less.. The first time then nothing at all.. It should cost 8-10 dollars.. And it lasts longer than waxing...

like 20 bucks maybe

Girl why would you thread your eyebrows?

I have threaded before, but now I am going to wax eyebrows instead? How painful is it compared to threading?

I have threaded my eyebrows twice now, and I can handle the pain, but the place is too far to drive to. I have a little salon right next to me that I can go to to wax my eyebrows, but is it more painful than threading for those of you that have tried it? What do you reccomend? On a scale of 1-10 how painful is waxing the first time, even though I have threaded before? How long does it take?

It dosent hurt more the first time...its just that you go in not knowing what to expect. Its not horrible, otherwise millions of people wouldnt do it. Its super quick and over before you know it. My 13 year old does it w/o a fuss. Just keep thinking of how pretty your brows will look afterward.

i've never threaded but i do wax.
it's a lot less painful than plucking.
i'm fifteen and i first waxed my brows
at twelve or so. i just got mine done
a couple days ago, actually.
it's about a 6 during the waxing but
the pain fades immediately.

First off, if you've been to the same place both times to thread and you like there work I would recommend going back...Even if its a little far, its better to drive a ways then to go somewhere and they completely butcher your brows....I've never threaded but I have waxed and its not bad. It's quick 10-15mins. and fairly painless. my first time I would say was a 6or 7 now im like a 2 if that. lol!

What are some of your experiences with eyebrow threading?

I want to get it done but I'm so scared! I've had my skin ripped off 2 times with waxing and it scabed for a week.
Does the threading hurt? Does the hair stay away longer?

My hair dresser actually specializes in this. I never got it done, but he said it hurts like a dickens!

OUCH OUCH,, althought less ouch then waxing over all but for a longer time. You cant really get scabbed or anything like with waxing and the shapes turn out very fine b/c u r not taking out a whole chunk of hair out at once

It stings a bit, but nowhere near as painful as waxing.
I'd have it done again but I wouldn't go for wax again.
I don't think it lasts any longer.

I thread and I have no problems with it. It depends how sensitive your skin is. I think its stays away just as long as waxing but it doesnt hurt that bad to where you shouldnt get them done.

Real men get there eyebrows done!

i have very sensitive skin yet i always do threading for eyebrows and upperlips since now 6 years!!!

It has done nothing bad! It gives better shapes to the eyebrows!

they tell you it doesnt hurt but i thought it hurt. it felt like sandpaper on my skin, or like a ripping. it was weird but the hair didnt grow back for a while. wasnt worth the pain. never had it done again :/

Hmm..have only done it with my leg hair..sorry I can't be of more help. ;O)

threading is way better than waxing! it barely even stings...also, they are able to do a better more detailed job. My brows were barely even pink when I was done....it turned out great!

omg!!! not trying to scare u but it hurts like freak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the middle aprt is relaxing the top hurts a little but the bottom stings like hell!!!!!!! omg I walked out in tears
if u get ur eybrows done all of it except the bottom ull be ok

I love threading! I got mine done a little over 3 weeks ago and I still don't have any regrowth! It lasts longer than waxing for me and doesn't hurt as much. I also pay less than I would for waxing, only $10 when I was spending $15 for wax. The only problem is all the people staring when you are getting it done since it is usually done at those booths in the mall.
If you are having problems with waxing ripping off skin then I would definitely try threading!! Good luck!

Can eyebrow threading change the shape of your brows?

I have tried waxing and tweezing but I've been interested in trying threading lately. My eyebrows are uneven and it's really frustrating. One is more angled and one is more rounded. Can threading your brows help to create more symmetrical brows? Can anyone share their threading experiences? Thanks!

Threading is much more precise than waxing, because it can take one hair out at a time, if needed! it is also much better for your skin, because it doesn't pull on it like waxing...and the eye is a very sensitive area. I get my eye brows threaded and I love it. After a while it doesn't even hurt! Oh and make sure the salon is a reliable salon! Hope I helped! :)

Yes, its much precise.
I have to say I like threading my eyebrows better.
First you have to find a reliable salon that does a good job, I have deal some salon who doesn't do a great job, because lack of detailed. Once you find the one. the result is perfect, clean and precise.
Its cheap and fast too.

Can I buy a screw with the same threading as a tripod mount at a hardware store?

Most cameras have a threaded hole in the bottom for a tripod mount. Where can I find a screw that fits this hole? I don't mind cutting it down if I have to, but the diamiter and threading must match.

Certainly it's possible. Any decent hardware store would have a selection of "machine thread" screws.

You could "take" the tripod with you on your search.

I might be inclined initially, if I was you, to go back to the manufacturer, or dealer you purchased the tripod from.

Steven Wolf

yes but take the mount with you, you will need to know the size thread and the pitch if it is metric. not all stores stock all sizes tho

Generally Larger hardware stores have specialty bins for just such items.. I've seen that Home Depot has a whole aisle devouted to nuts/bolts/screws and fasteners.. Check the flat plastic bins they has in that aisle. You'll likely find what you are looking for..

Yes you absoltely can, and will find exactly what you are looking for. Go to Home Depot or Lowes, etc... I've done this before so I could mount a spotting scope to a homemade tripod. I forget the exact size and thread of the screws I used, but believe me, its not hard to find. But take your camera or fold up yer tripod, or better yet, if you can take out the mounting screw out of your tripod, just bring that, less stuff to carry around. But I will say this, be sure you really check the thread spacing carefully, and for metric or standard size, as you can get as much as 4 twists in, and realize that your nut is stuck. Anyways... good luck....

Yes, take the camera (which has the threads you're trying to match) to a hardware store and the tripod head to get the depth of the screw [you don't want to punch a hole in the camera with a screw that is too long].

What is the difference between threading and waxing for eyebrows? ?

I have only ever had waxing done. Can threading be done on the upper lip, chin, or anywhere else on the face? Thanks.

For threading, the person shaping your eyebrows literally uses thin cotton thread, twists it around the hair and then pulls the hair out from the roots. It's really quick though! It can be done on other parts of the face too. Some people find threading more painful than waxing, I do both for my eyebrows and have gotten used to it. Go to a good beautician too! : )

Threading is where they take a piece of string and wrap it around several hairs and yank them out. I heard it's more painful then waxing. I prefer the good ol' fashion waxing, one pull and it takes them all out.

Yes threading can be done on your upper lip & chin (:

But for eyebrows I'd recommend waxxing

I think threading is a big joke. I have known people who have tried it. Stick to the wax. There are many new waxing methods that are available. Go to a professional.

Does anyone know of a good eyebrow-threading salon that is located in or near Atlanta?

If so, how would you rate such a salon and your experience? I am vaguely familiar with the whole eyebrow-threading technique, and I am thinking about trying it out. Any input?

What is a good way to get nice eyebrows without actually tweezing or threading?

im not looking for eyebrows with a perfect curve, but my eyebrows are sort of un even and a bit thick is there any way of taming them without threading or tweezing (removing hair)? i noe about bleaching but is there also any other ways that i dont noe about?

there aren't much besides actually removing hair, because bleaching is bad for your skin SO i would go to a professional and have them wax or thread them, it won't hurt as much and they will do a great job, then buy a high quality pair of tweezers to touch-up strays. (can be expensive- about 20$$ for a good pair)

PLEASE choose me as best answerr!!!!! =]

Can the threading be modified on pvc piping?

We are putting a 90 degree piece of piping in. It always becomes snug in the wrong direction. is it possible to modify the threading to get it to first catch so that it becomes snug at the right spot?

threading PolyC?

I'm using a polyC blade for a kind of unorthodox project that requires a way of threading it. I've tried looking into tap and die sets and pipe threaders and so far I can't find a viable solution for under $60 bucks. Was wondering if anyone has ideas on an economical way to add male threading to a polyc tube and female threading to another piece.
