Old traditional barbershops?
Is there many old traditional barbershops left in the uk? Or are they a dying breed . The newer ones are fine with mostly female barbers some even cut girls hair now too. I just wondered if there any left where you are ?
Going to my local barber tomorrow. They cater for men only, will trim the eyebrows and moustache, if you have one,and they do have a female barber who gave me a superb cut the last time I visited.
Daves in Alnwick. Highly recommended.
There is one just around the corner from me in Leeds, guys go in and queue to see the barber and it's only about £3 to £5 for a haircut.
Yes and Yes....on the far west side of Detroit right next to the historic Redford Theatre on Lasher Rd at Grand River avenues there is a 1930s era barber shop with the old chairs and sinks in front of each chair, wallpaper of the grand canyon on the wall and mirrors all over with pictures of 1950s hairstyles on the wall.....you could film a John Dillinger gangster movie there getting a haircut and you would not have to change a thing!!!! Also in front windows there is some gaudy, overgrown ugly weed looking plants staring at you..ha-ha!!!
There is a very old traditional barbers in London. These days with cut throat razors you have to have H&S certificate to use them if yhou know of a barber using one ask to see their cert if they don't have one - tricky. It is all to do with cutting you and aids/HIV etc.
First off.. dont say old traditional barbershop.. they were horrible places where you could get your hair cut and also a leg or arm amputaded with the same scisors! Disgusting! Bloody Victorians :P
anyway.. round my way .. my road// village has about 3 hairsdressers .. 2 of which are barbers and 1 is a totaly kool multi-sex hairsdreeser! however at the moment one of the all men barbers are closed because the owner is missing!

I hear you - we have the same situation here in the U.S. It's mostly unisex salons these days, and just TRY to get a regular haircut ! In my town we still have one plain and simple barber shop left and the place is always packed. I can go in there and just tell the barber "short regular" and he knows exactly what to do. No fancy styling, no "high maintenance" hair cuts - just quick simple haircuts that DON'T cost over $20 ! My barber charges $8.00 for a haircut and it comes out just right every time. He only raised it to $8.00 from $6.00 because his rent for the shop went up. The last time my daughter, who has thankfully decided to let her hair grow long, went to a salon, they cut maybe an inch of hair off her and brushed it a different way - for the low price of $30 !!!
There is 1 where i live (Outside Norwich)..i remember the old days of going in to a hair cut...a proper gentlemans haircut lol Now in our town theres 8 hair salons which do both genders in the town (small town). I dont know how the old baber is managing to stay in business with all the competition.
There's one in Oxford High Street I go to every now and again. (Fifth down in the attached list.)
Yeah there are! My bf goes to this old boy in dover, kent who has been cutting hair since before the war! LOL xx
Would like to have known if there were any decent ones in my area as wanted a traditional short back and sides done.
Went for it myself anyway using clippers. The results are okay. Looks much nicer than it's been for years and would love to keep it that way. Will try and get it done professionally next time.
