Jitters Cafe serving Pittsfield Concord Monitor

In his quest to bring vitality to downtown Pittsfield, local businessman Paul Rogers is opening Main Street's newest establishment this morning.

Jitters Cafe is opening its doors at 5:30 a.m. in the spot held by Zoya's restaurant until it shut down this summer. The cafe will serve breakfast all day and lunch beginning at 11 a.m.

Rogers, 42, has run local video store Moo-veez Galore for 16 years and also owns Paul's Unisex hair salon on Main Street.

"Pittsfield always gets the bum rap," said Rogers, who is also a waiter at Newick's Lobster House in Concord. "I'm trying to give people the idea that there is something going on in Pittsfield."

Rogers said the restaurant staff will consist of himself and co-owner David Stout, two cooks and a waitress. Through the end of February, the menu will boast a couple of specials intended to entice first-time customers: two eggs, home fries and toast for $2, or a small coffee and bagel for the same price.

Theme for a unisex hair and beauty salon?

have taken on a project for creating a theme for a salon. the target market is teenagers, college students, aspiring models, and the young at heart. I need some insight into what teenagers are into these days. And suggestions as to what thematic elements would apeal to this target audience. Thanx in advance.

to be honest me and my friends just kind of prefer an old school, affordable place with basic ammenities and friendly, good service.

ive been to really douchey, hip places and its a less relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. you dont need gimmicks or non-sense. just perfect the essentials.

Hi guys, to all those living in Westchester County, NY, which unisex hair salon has the?

best looking female haircutters? And what are the haircut prices? I think I'm due for a snip snip before the weekend. Thanks.
I live in lower Westchester County, but am willing to travel up north, even as far as Brewster; but like I said, if the haircutters are attractive...(no guys, just women). I'm just looking to have a trim around the back and sides; looking to grow my hair out on top; the last haircutter (a guy..ughh) chopped off plenty even though I gave him clear instructions not to do that.. ideally, I want to have a haircut (my hair now is not long enough for that) where my scalp on top is combed back (but not like a pompadour type a la Buster Poindexter) and the rest is nice and short blended in.

That's a good idea; I'll bring a picture next time.

The best way to find a hairstylist is to find someone who has the type of hair you have in your area and ask them where do you get your haircut. They will tell you if they are happy with the person if it was the first time or someone they see all the time.
Hairstylist build their clients on word of mouth. We love referrals.
Unless we are so busy we don't need another client. However that person can also recommend someone in the salon that could help you.

When you walk into a salon you may get the person who has the least amount of clients and not the most amount of experience.

Or you can luck out and hit the person who is the best at a moment they are open to take a walk in.

You may need to try different stylist till you achieve the correct look and way you wear your hair.

Also you may need to find a stylist who you are comfortable with too.

The best client is one that is sent from another client as then we know what you have in mind.

Also bring in a photo of you or the hairstyle you like.
That helps a lot.

You get what you pay for so be sure your not getting someone who is not experienced

West Co, NY is a LARGE area ......be specific

The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name's originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.

The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.

Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.

Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending & registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names & yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

What's a good name for a unisex children's hair salon?

Think fun & trendy...

Dick and Janes.

How about Jacks and Jills? Or something that has to with children's rhymes?

I think that something like:
Forever Lovely
would be nice.
I don't think it really matters what you call it when it comes to a unisex hair salon. Something that doesn't sound too femenine for a boy but something that sound alluring for a girl. So maybe:
Super Strands
maybe something like that! :)

I like Jack & Jills

can anyone think of any good names for a hair salon?

its a unisex hair salon and i need some good slogans / names .

we just did a big project for inventing a hair salon.
i named mine Highs and Lows.

you could do something like that...a play on 'highlights'.

You could use something like Cuttery Barn a play on Pottery Barn or something like The Snippery

Panache

Wonder 'Do's

Unisex hair salons. Why arn't they called bisexual hair salons?

The word "uni" means one, and "bi" means two, but unisex hair salons cut both sexes hair, not just one sex like the prefix "uni" suggests.

Shouldn't they be called bisexual hair salons because they cut "two" sexes hair?

The uni is referring to the salon itself - one salon for all.

Same with unisex toilets. One toilet for all.

Barbershop or hair salon?

Which do you think gives a better haircut for guys. A barbershop or regular (unisex) hair salon?

I'd put my money on a regular salon. A lot of barbers assume that most guys want (or *should have*) really short hair. Sometimes they'll just shave it without really listening to you.

So I'd recommend a unisex salon if you're looking for a unisex cut. But wherever you go, be specific and assertive with your directions. Wherever you go, there are stylists who tend to push their opinions of what looks good on their clients.

Wonderful Neighbourhood Hair Salon for Kids!

My mum suggested I try this hair salon near her place after she heard about my disastrous attempt to cut Sam's hair at the one near mine. I was very doubtful initially about her recommendations (based on years of experience), but this time, I'm so glad I took her advice!

The hair salon in question looked just like any old small salon in a neighbourhood centre, but it's filled with toys to entertain its young customers - cars, dolls, electronic moving & singing mobiles etc. The owner even has a containerful of lollipops to coax children with!

And the 2 hairdressers are obviously experienced with dealing with children. They are deft & quick with the haircut, gentle when coaxing the children, and knows when my son has reached his limit and not to insist on the finer points of the hair style.

So for the 1st time in Sam's 2.5 yrs of life, my son actually has a hair style instead of just an all-head shave!

Yes, Sam is still sucking on his lollipop after the haircut!

And it only costs me S$6!!! The hair salon near my place who couldn't even get Sam to wear the plastic cover around the neck wanted to charge me $16!

Thanks a lot, Uncle! I'll definitely be back!
