The Wax Museum: Between a rock and the deep blue sea Citizens Voice

Congressional Black Caucus chair Emanuel Cleaver blasted the final debt deal as a Satan sandwich. "This deal is a sugar-coated Satan sandwich," he said. "If you lift the bun, you will not like what you see."

The Wax Museum, its staff and management, take no sides on politics, but it did remind us of the 1931 Cab Calloway song, "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea." Seems rather appropriate these past few weeks. But what devil do you have me in between?

It appears, according to The Phrase Finder (phrases.org.uk) that the aforementioned word "Devil" is a nautical term referring to a seam in a ship right between the deck edge and the side. Anything that floats needs to be watertight and, if wooden, caulked. No big problem if you are docked, but a major problem at sea.

Some poor guy would be elected to get suspended over the side, if not leaning over the edge of the deck, to do the work. So he is working at this seam (the "devil") right over the deep blue sea. (Not all researchers agree on this history, but it sounds good.)

what part of home-made wax hurts/burns?
putting it on?
or
taking it off?

btw, i was thinking of making a home-made wax for my upper lips.

Hi well both and why would u even think of doing this home made stuff is beyond me coz if u get any burns etc it can fester or scar OK?

My suggestion is go see how pro's do it by letting them do it on u then make ur decisions YES? ♥

well both. if the wax is too hot it can hurt your skin when you put it on and taking it off always hurts. it will hurt a lot less if you go to a professional. its not very expensive and i would recommend that just so you dont burn yourself or end up with that nasty red rash you can get when the wax is too hot

How much wax does it take to hot wax a snowboard?

I've never waxed my snowboard, and i'm looking at wax, and they sell in different amounts (5 oz, 3/4 lbs, ect). Lets say I bought a 3/4 lb brick. How many waxes would that get me? How much does it take each wax? Thanks ahead of time!

It doesn't take alot to wax your board. Probably an ounce or two. I gather up what I scrape off and reuse it the next time I wax my board so it goes a long ways. 3/4 of a lb would probably do about 10 waxes, depending on how thick you put it on. 5 oz would do 3-5 times.

Just a rough estimate since I don't have a scale, but it looks like my last wax job took about 1 oz of wax. I ride a big board, and tend to use a little too much wax. So a 3/4 lb brick would be about 6 waxes.

What wax should I buy for my bikini line?

I'm leaving for vacation in a couple of days and I need to wax my bikini line. No time to go for a wax and I just tried nads- it doesn't work! Depliatories get about half the hair and grow back too quickly. Razors give me razor burn. What wax should I use that I can buy at a drugstore like riteaid? If nads hair removal gel wax doesn't work on me will parissa? should i try parissa for short coarse hair or face and bikini, or the new face and bikini sensitive? tips? Thanks!
Oh and I have fairly sensitive skin and the hair on my bikini line is pretty coarse and very very dark... don't know if that makes a difference... its also on the shorter side, a lot of waxes say wait for hair to be 1/4 inch... some of my hair is only and 1/8 an inch (3+ mm), but a lot of waxes say 3-5 mm is okay... PLEASE answer i need help and im about to leave for the store.

ok no wax.taht stuff hurts like a guy giving birth.\ok maybe not that much but it still will hurt VERY badly.
use sally hansen stuff.
no nair there stuff smells.
umm like sally hansen spray on shower off.u dont need to spread the cream or anything.jsut spray on.
and................... shower off.or if u wanna try something else
but try to buy sally hansen

Look for sugar wax, its less irritating and use cloth strips - they work a lot better.

How to get wax off household objects without special remover?

I made a huge mess with a gigi home wax kit and theres wax all over the machine, wood cabinet, boxes, and bags. I was able to sue mayo to remove wax from my skin and from the rug but will ti also work on those toher surfaces?? I don't wnat to buy special wax remover either since it would be extremely difficult for me to get to a place to find it. Please tell me if mayo will work or if any other household objects would.

Apply heat to the wax and you should have no trouble at all just wiping it up.

Try using a blow dryer to soften the wax and then you can scrape it up.

How can remove wax from my white wall?

I had this candle wax that i figured I'd use in the bathroom for incense. I placed it on the top of the toilet and it leaned back a little. Not realizing when the wax melted it drizzled all the way down the back of the toilet, sliding down the wall on to the floor. I know you can scrape up dried wax but how do I get it off my white wall without damaging the wall and paint. This is a brand new house and I don't wanna have to have them repaint it 4 sum wax.

Try using an old piece of cloth (sheet etc.) or a heavy duty paper towel ( careful not to burn) have someone hold it against the wall covering the area while you hold a hot iron on it...( do not rub) lift it off reapply with a clean cloth and repeat.

ice cube it scrap it off then a oily residue will be on white wall u can repaint lightly sanding with 000 fine paper or use shoe polish liquid that lil patch but sand it 1st a tad bit. lol

take a brand new razor blade and carefully slide it behind the wax if you do it right no damage to wall if you do it wrong just get a small can of touch up paint and fix it

Since it's behind the toilet, a low setting iron with paper towels won't work. They do make a candle wax remover (K-Mart, ETC.) that will remove the wax but may leave spots on your wall. (Goo-Gone.........same thing) You can prime over it with Kilz or another primer and repaint the small section. If it's flat paint, there isn't a way to clean it and save it without painting that I know about. So glad your hair didn't catch or fire or your clothes. Call the co. that made the candle and see what they say to do.

use hairspray... the cheapest kind you can find. it works great on wax type items like my sons crayons.

Don't know if this will work on a wall. It will on carpet. (it will flake off carpet), past business exp.
Freeze it. How to do that on a wall?
Hmmmm. How to freeze it. The only thing I can think of would be "Dry Ice". Paint may still come with it. If that doesn't work, don't know.
If it's behind the toilet tank, you may be able to have the color matched, closely, from a paint chip. They have computerized equip. to do that, Lowes etc.

Ice cubes, get it as cold as you can and it will come right off. You can always paint the wall.

How do you wax a skimboard and ride one?

I'm a complete beginner lol. I tried it at the beach but the shoreline was too sloped and the waves were rough that day. Does anyone have any tips on how to wax the skimboard (it's a local motion) thorough explanations please =) I'm using warm water/Tropical wax from Classic Wax Sticky Bumps. Is this ok? How and when should I clean the wax off of my board?
Also can you include some tips on riding a skimboard properly and how i can improve my balance? How far should i throw the skimboard on the surface and when? How should I land on the skimboard for maximum success of not falling off terribly lol..
Please be specific and include lots of info! Feel free to add more than what I might've forgotten to ask...And maybe helpful websites that i can use.
Thanks!

trust me im ok...i started last week and im starting to get into the waves..first of all if you have a carpet in your house practice there..it sounds weird but that's how i learned to catch my balance...i have sex wax and i rub the entire board...go in a circular motion all over the board...also when you have rough waves look at the back of the next incoming wave and see if you have a big wave forming...i do that so that i don't crash into the waves...also when you're a beginner try to come back to the part of the shore where its just wet and dry then when the wave reaches your foot like just when it stops to go back just do a slow jog and drop the board slowly and get on like you do on a carpet...then just learn to keep your balance and if a big wave comes then just walk off the board but push it away with your foot...trust me you don't want a wooden board to hit you in the shin...OUCH. then as you get better start jogging a little faster and also you have to I'mmediately drop the board just about half a foot in front of your foot and then immediately hop on...as light as you can..from the back because the side will make you turn and you might fall backwards or hit the wave backwards...that has happened to me...i have plenty of rashes and scratches on me...some burns and wrist pain...and im 13! if this helps you please add me.

all i have to say is "its not as easy as it looks", i tried for the first time last weekend, i failed miserably

To ride your skimboard you must grip it with your right hand on the rear of the board and your left hand on the upper-left edge of the board (unless you are "goofy" footed because then it is the exact opposite).
Wait until the water is about 1 1/2 inches deep or shallower and then slide your board onto the surf.
Catch up to the board and quickly place your left foot on first if you have a "goofy" stance, and right foot on first if you have a "regular" stance.
Find your balance and glide across the water
When you slide your board you should throw it pretty fast so that you have momentum.

yep sticky bumps is good you can try sex wax to just rub it on side to side then top to bottom until you can rub your hand along it without it slipping cleaning it off isnt really needed you want to jump on the skimboard right after you throw it and if youre a begginer throw the board when the waters going back into the ocean
skimonline.com has a lot of good stuff
and to get the wax off your board leave it out in the sun for a couple of hours then you can wipe it off with a rag or towel

How do I get candle wax off a waxed floor?

I accidentally spilt a can of hot candle wax onto my lovely wooden waxed floor. Is there any special way of removing this candle wax without removing the wax from the floor?

it should scrape off in a layer.... if not you will have to melt it off then do a patch up on your floor wax

hard luck babe.

helen x x x

warm veg oil- rub in gently and the wax should ease off. Not too much- heat some in the microwave, pour a little on and use your fingers to take largets bits of and then use a clean cloth to rub off gently.

scrape off as much as you can without damaging the underlying floor. Then heat an iron on low-moderate heat, place paper towels over the wax spill, apply iron to paper and watch as it meltsthe wax into the paper towel.

try rubbing ice on the wax to make it freeze - or put a bag of frozen veggies on it - when it gets cold cold cold- scrape it off and then buff the floor with a dry cloth

Try grease proof paper over the top and iron it with a cool iron, the wax should stick to the paper without marking the floor

Use a hairdryer then soak it up with kitchen paper

that is really difficult as it has the potential to do some damage to flooring my advice to you is when you spill wax try and clear it up quickly other wise you will end up picking it up of the floor.

them steam machines are brilliant for removing alsorts of things
also for quick defrosting fridge/freezer,and sanitize surfaces for hygene, they are a brill thing to have around.

What should I do to get rid of the wax and stain on my skin after waxing?

Afterwards, I had to go to work with these velvet black pants. The pants was stuck on my leg because of the wax. Now, my leg has black spots. How can get rid of the color?

put baby oil on your skin and gently work it off.

How do I remove wax from a laminate floor that I should not have waxed.?

Bought a new laminate floor and wanted it to have more of a shine. Went out and purchased rejuvinate floor cleaner which ended up being a wax. I now have white marks scratches and scuff marks due to the wax and would like to remove the wax without damaging the floor.

There are wax removers on the market, you can try one of them, but the best thing is ammonia water if you can stand the smell, but ammonia will cut the wax, it will be a get down on your knees job, using a damp sponge and rinse well and wipe up. Try a small section of the floor first in an area that isn't noticable to see if it is going to work for you. Everyone I know that has a laminate floor wants the shine, but you only get that with real hardwood, seems they would make a product that would make the laminate shine a little more.

How do I get liquid wax off my legs?

I wanted to start waxing my legs... I just put on the wax and tried waxing them but now the wax is stuck to me and I can't get it off. I tried washing, scrubbing, and everything that I could to try to get it off but it's not working. Can anyone help me? I can't get it off?

There are special lotions they sell ,called as wax off..you can buy them . or as for now as a quick fix you can use a cotton damped with a baby oil or use conditioner.....use it liberally then use a cotton damped in water. It should come out.
