BAG-E-POL, Afghanistan — Rows of well-behaved boys sat at desks that had been moved outside for the news conference. They watched as a stream of dignitaries and ministers, U.S. and Afghan soldiers, and members of the media filed into the courtyard of the Bag-e-Pol school on registration day in Kandahar province.

As the dignitaries settled in behind a podium and looked out, they saw the unlikeliest of sights. In the front row sat female students, fidgeting, smiling and acting as giddy as, well, schoolgirls.

They sat in wonderment as Zhari district governor Niaz Sarhadi talked about the value of education and what it means for the future of Afghanistan. At times the girls feigned modesty to onlookers, hiding behind their small veils, but that didn’t last. Today wasn’t a day to hide. Today was different because they knew that somebody thought they were important.

In partnership with the provincial Ministry of Education, along with local and district leadership, the 10th Mountain Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team oversaw the opening of eight schools in early September in the Zhari and Maiwand districts of Kandahar province; two of them for female students. That’s up from just two schools operating this time last year, neither of which was open to girls. Six more schools are scheduled to open soon in the two districts.

My Navy recruiter told me that they dont cut womens hair and I read on the internet they do. Whats the truth?

No, it's not required but optional.

For women in the military, beginning in basic training/boot camp, they can have their hair as long as they want, but while in uniform it has to be tied back to meet military standards, which means it can't tough the collar of the uniform or fall over the ears or eyebrows.

However, female recruits do have the option of getting their hair cut while there.

I wear my hair short but want to go even shorter. I would like the back and sides to be clippered and the top to be slightly longer and think I will get a better cut in a barbershop. Ladies salons don't really specialise in very short cuts and I want it to be sharp. The problem is I've never been inside a barbershop before and I'm a little nervous. Do most barbers cut womens hair? Are you afemale who gets her hair cut in a barbershop and are you happy with the results?

My mother always got her hair done in the barber-shop, and she loves it. She wears her hair super short and she loves how they do it at the barber-shop.

If you are nervous about it, check out a place that has uni-sex cuts, or find a woman who works in the barber-shop to do your cut.

nowadays guys have longer hair than most women so you should take a chance. what you should do is find a guy who has a similar cut to what you would like and ask him where he cuts his hair. A good barber should be able to cut it the way you want.
or maybe you should find a pic in a magazine and bring it!

Some do some don't, you usually have to make some calls and check around. I would suggest asking someone with clipper-cut you like male or female, all barbers are not created equally.

Yes, barbers will cut a women's hair short. I prefer asking barbers to cut a woman's hair short, than hair stylists as the barbers seem more experience cutting hair short so they don't ask too many questions. (I make haircutting videos, so I've worked with a number of barbers and hairstylists).

The best time to visit a "dead" salon or barbershop is on Monday mornings during the day (some places aren't open Mondays for that reason). Or almost any week day except Friday. I've been in salons where I was the only one there!

The best way is to call the shop first and ask when it's the most quiet in there. They will be happy to tell you because they like having customers during the slow periods. They get bored too!

You'll enjoy your barbershop visit, no worries. You'll receive the best short cut that you'll ever have there.

Looks kind of like an ancient egyptian hairstyle. Basically the hair around the head is long, straight and cut evenly, maybe a little past shoulder length, but in the front right above the eyebrows it's cut in a straight line so the person can see forward. So basically like a mop, with one section of hair cleanly cut out.

When we get older we don't give a damn what anyone thinks, and we shouldn't. Mine is short and a wash and go thing..looking younger ?, maybe, I think that has a lot to do with attitude. Most of us cant go and get "lifts" of any kind, so we have to deal with it...we look the very best we can, we care enough for that.. menopause takes over and hey, we have enough problems trying to stay cool...:)

Because they're busy and often don't have a lot of time to manage their hair the way younger people do, in accordance with your question.

My mom's a nurse and has maintained a short and neat cut for a very long time. It's just a wash-and-go thing for her. It cuts her beauty time in half and gives her more time for breakfast, reading the paper, and all that jazz.

It's really more about maintenance for some people other than style.

As we age, it takes more time and energy to do things. It's just easier to cut it. At least that's what my Mother said. Personally, I'm 42 and have naturally curly, waist length hair and I refuse to cut it until I have to have someone else brush it for me!

Older women generally have a harder time looking right with long hair. Some can pull it off, but many can't. Also they are sick and tired of putting up with what a pain long hair can be. I plan to keep mine for a LONG time though.

In general... womens hair gets thinner as they get older and if they keep it long, it looks stringy. Also its more practical and older women are generally more practical. Plus, usually if you have long hair for a while, you get bored and you feel the need to cut it. And even if you did want to grow it out again after you cut it, it's a major pain in the ass.

Well when you age obviously gravity gets it's grasp and pulls so if you have hair down to your butt it will only make everything in between look saggier. Plus many of the women that get the super short hair cuts do not have the strength to stand there for 20 minutes like us young girls do. It's about ease and trying not to make wrinkles look worse.

It generally takes a while before we realize that there isn't anybody looking or care anyway. The one you've got already isn't going anywhere... so go for easy, fast and convenient. The shorter it is... the better.

The shorter hair cut on older women is suppose to make them look younger. I don't think so. I've got long hair down just below shoulder blades and I'm 47 but I've been told I look 35 by men and women. If I were to cut my hair short I will look older not younger.

After having a baby, a lot of women get the "mommy cut" because babies pull on hair.

One of my grandmothers still have long hair and when its down, it looks very dry and stringy... she hardly ever wears it down and she typically rolls it into a french twist every day and uses very stylish, expensive clips in it. I think that's the only way long hair would look good on someone who's gone gray.

Shorter hair styles are easier to style and maintain. Older women don't want to put as much work into their hair, and often they don't have the time to work on their hair a lot, or they have arthritis or something that restricts their ability to do their hair.

you ever see an old woman with long hair? makes them look older! women dont like to look older. the older a woman gets the more stylish the hair should get. there comes a time when youre just too old for long hair. im not saying you have to go "guy" short. but its the rule of thumb if you want to grow old gracefully. now if your some hollywood babe with enough money to stay young looking then you can get away with it...but for the most part (those without personal trainers and our own personal makeup artists) long hair on old women ages them.

Women often keep their hair long to please men. As they get older their interest in men declines and so does their desire to please them.

Also, long hair is a responsibility and takes time to maintain. As a woman's hair turns gray it changes texture and can become wiry, unruly and take even longer to style than it did when younger. Add to that the fact that we don't have as much energy to spend on styling our hair when we get older and you have a second reason why older women choose to go short.

I am 48 and starting to understand why older women go short, but given that I am still very interested in one particular man who likes my hair long and I tend to be vain about these things, I am determined to keep my hair long for as long as I can without looking ridiculous!

What do you think a Jail is?
Haircuts are done by an inmate ho usually has been a stylist or barber on the outside before incarceration.
The haircut is usually a number 2 blade or 1/2 in crew cut, unless other attachments are available.
Face it this is not get ready for the Grammy Award Night here.
